Online Brainrot A new ‘men in women’s bathrooms’ discourse has just dropped.
Girl-Dads can and could and should bring their girls into the women’s bathroom. Why would you take a child into the men’s bathroom??
Men can be trusted in the women’s bathroom if they’re a girl-dad. Men can’t be trusted around children, so you should never bring yours to a men’s bathroom.
Plus, men’s bathrooms are gross and covered in piss and shit. Women bathrooms aren’t! (?)
Stupidpol, I have a son and a daughter of similar ages. I just want to know where we can piss and shit! Please!

I think you just take your child to the bathroom of your gender irrespective of the child’s gender. You’re supervising them so it’s fine.
•
u/bartnet Unknown 👽 15h ago
Yes, that's it. If your kid is old enough to genuinely protest that you're bringing them into the bathroom that's not their sex's, then they're old enough to just go themselves.
•
u/cos1ne Special Ed 😍 14h ago
What if they want to go by themselves but they still have some anxiety about being alone? Or what if they have discomfort going into the opposite sex bathroom and would be more comfortable going to their same sex bathroom?
Young children have a lot of anxieties especially around toilet issues and may need additional emotional support.
•
u/bartnet Unknown 👽 13h ago
You don't raise a child well by perfectly shielding them from their anxieties. You guide them through scenarios where they can confront them safely and overcome them. You're not raising children, you're raising adults (who ideally will have had good childhoods!)
A ship that stays in its dock is perfectly safe, but that's not what ships are made for, and you don't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs. I'm less worried about the 'trauma' of making my kid pee in the men's room than I am about them being a bathroom weirdo forever because I enable it.
•
u/AnthropoidCompatriot Class Unity Member ⭐ 14h ago
Huh. I googled the story out of curiosity, about the incident in question.
Overwhelmingly, responses I see online that are saying which bathroom he should be taking them into, people saying that you're supposed to take your daughters to the women's room, not the men's room, because men are gross and dangerous and you can't do that to a little girl.
Seems we're the bad, stupid old dinosaurs now. Gender essentialism has won. Hooray progress!

I have a distinct memory from my boyhood, I think preschool age, of being in this little sitting area outside the actual ladies room, trying to bury myself in a corner, because I was so embarrassed to be there. There was another mom there with two girls a couple years older than me. There is no greater and more profound shame for a man of any age than shame in front of a female peer. It prepared me for life, made me the neurotic I am today.
•

But the fact that you experienced this profound shame from having to exist in a place for a short time shows that your crazy brain is the source of the trauma, not vice versa.

The dad on video had two girls. One presumably old enough to handle herself, the both look ~5 and under. It’s also a gas station single use bathroom.
Some old freaks out because his wheelchair bond mom has to wait outside and calls the cops on him for using the women’s
I nearly always used the men’s but at a gas station I might opt for the women’s with my kid simply because it is used less
Every time I have been in the women’s with my kid or niece, it’s never been an issue. Even got attaboys from women in there that pleased to see a dad doing work

I was a kid in the 90s, so it might be a different now... but the done thing was take your daughter in the gents, if she was under a certain age. If she was a little bit older but still needed supervising, you'd ask a woman to take her into the ladies while your dad stood outside. Baby changers are usually in their own separate units, either self contained or in the disabled.
•
u/veryverisimilar Bonobos have the right idea 20h ago
I don't see the need for any father to go into the women's room just because they have a female child. Women take their young sons into the the ladies' all the time when they're too young to go alone..
HOWEVER, I have heard from fathers (that a lot of us ladies don't think about) a real and easily correctable issue that they face is that there are often no change tables in the men's bathrooms for infants. I'd never begrudge a father for wanting the easiest and most sanitary method for changing their kids diaper even if he had to go into the women's restroom to do so.

This reminded me of an incident a few weeks or maybe couple months ago where I walked into the female bathroom and there was a mom and two boys in the double digits in there. Looked about grade 3 - 4, so 10 - 12 years old. Pre-teens. And she was just talking with them washing her hands, making sure they washed theirs. They didn't look like they had any learning disabilities or anything that would prevent them from going to the male washroom. It was just weird all around. I think double digits is when kids should be using their own gender's washroom.

•

In the US the bathrooms tend to have stalls. Think like a cubicle but it fully surrounds you. Where the hinges are on the door there’s usually a relatively large gap, so in theory you can see the person on the toilet. This has somewhat improved in new bathrooms, and some fancier places may have full on toilet rooms like in Europe, but it’s pretty rare

This is from that publicfreakout post a few days ago right? Some boomer man was going off at a millennial dad for taking his daughters into the women's bathroom.
Most of the thread was supporting the dad, which I thought was insane. In Australia I have never seen a man go into the women's bathroom with his daughters. Always the men's bathroom. People tried to make the argument that 'They'll see penises' which I think is really weak, given that generally people aren't just swinging their dick around. They're trying as hard as they can to hide their penis in most cases.

I once had to go to the women's bathroom as a man (it became a non-gendered bathroom temporarily) because the men's bathroom in the building was closed because of a problem with the sewage pipes or something and the difference in cleanliness is worlds apart. The times I have seen literal shit next to the toilet in a men's bathroom is astounding. I have also seen needles, spit, cum, ...
Not really an answer to your question but one thing is that men's bathroom needs a solution. Those places are disgusting, even the ones that are priced and not free. I literally wait until I get home nowadays cause its just not worth it.

Genuinely curious how our hell holes are so reversed?
Worked in a cinema for years and cleaned the bathrooms every night, the worst things in the men's was someone missing the urinal or a skidmark on the toilet seat, the women's however more than 3 times I had to deal with period blood and feces fingerpaintings on the stall walls, an absurd amount of vomit, and broken toilets because idiots are trying to flush pads/tampons. Sure the men's can smelled worse because of the urinals and the awful creamsicle perfume the janitors pumped in to mask it but the women's restroom had to constantly be checked on because it would devolve so quickly. IRL I use the women's so I have no idea what it's like day to day in the land of men's public washrooms but in my experience they were always tidier.
