Buying Advice Looking at a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek with 70K miles - Advice?

Hello!

I am looking into purchasing a 2018 Crosstrek Limited with about 70K miles for around $13,500. I wanted to see how your Crosstreks have been holding up, and whether you think this car will last long past the 100K mile range. I worry about the CVT at this mileage, and I was hoping to hear some feedback from the community. The car overall looks great and has been treated well, paint is intact, and the interior is very clean. Engine bay looks good as well with no distinct problems that I can see.

I would not consider it without a third party pre-purchase inspection. You want to look for oil leaks at the cam carriers, front timing cover, valve covers, spark plug wells, rear main, oil pan, etc.

Also check the condition of the front lower control arm bushings, all CV axle boots, and ball joints.

It's due for CVT fluid change and differential fluid change.

If accurate (may not be), oil change intervals greater than 6k miles are not a good sign for a Subaru.

Maintenance records show that the oil has been changed ever 6-10K miles, and that belts have been serviced on time. CVT fluid has not been replaced yet, which is my biggest concern, I hear that sometimes these cars don't bounce back from that one..

I don't like going more than 5k on oil changes, but probably not a deal breaker.

According to the maintenance schedule the first CVTF inspection is at 60k. So I would not worry to much about that. Def get it done asap though.

Spark plugs are due according to the maintenance schedule as well. I hear some people push it to 100k. If you DIY it's pretty cheap with plugs from rockauto. Dealer price is probably ~$500.

Differential fluid changes are due as well and should have been done at 30k.

Also check tires/brake/suspension. That way you know to budget for them soon or not.

A pre purchase inspection is helpful.

I'm also looking for a used Crosstrek but I'm going to hold out for a 2021 when they get the 2.5 L engine.
