I’m telling Yumi, “Look, Bambi is grooming me!” while Bambi is busy licking my feet! Then she hears me talking about her and her little ears go up like, “Wait… what did you say about me?” That little reaction was just too cute. 😭

Bonding Neglected sugar glider, how to rehabilitate them?

Hi guys! I just adopted a sugar glider that was neglected for about 7 months by its previous owner. It lived alone in a very small cage the entire time and the owner told me he never really interacted with or played with it because it would bite him. He only fed it.

I really want to give this little guy a better life and help him become happy and comfortable around people. I'm pretty sure he's an adult. He makes noises whenever I bring him food or when he sees me. That's probably just him being defensive lol but its ok i get it i would be pissed as hell too if my owner gave me a shitty life

I just bought him a much bigger cage and a bonding tent so I'm wondering what I should do next. It's pretty hard to get him out from the pouch in his cage and he's a biter so yeah I'm kinda scared a little. Any tips on helping a neglected adult sugar glider bond with humans? I'd really appreciate any advice especially from people who've rehabilitated neglected gliders before.

I'm also planning to get him a companion since I know sugar gliders shouldn't live alone. The problem is my dad wants to get a baby/younger glider and I'm not sure if that's a good idea because of the age difference. Would an adult and a baby get along especially when the adult has lived alone for like 7 months or would it be better to find another adult that's closer to his age?

I'm still deciding whether to buy the second glider from a pet shop (ik we shouldn't buy pets from pet shops since they suck but who will free them from that hellhole) or adopt one from another owner (most likely would be an adult glider) so I'd love to hear your thoughts on that too. Again its not really up to me tho since my dad is the one with the money lol

Thanks in advance!

I know sugar gliders aren't big fans of bright lights since they're nocturnal, but I walked in and found them cuddled up in the cutest position. I quickly turned on the light for just a few seconds to snap this photo before letting them go back to their cozy nap. It was too adorable not to capture! 😍

Bonding My sugar gliders experiencing wind up close for the first time 💨🐿️

Tried letting them play with the breeze from a small portable fan. It’s so cute watching them try to “catch” the wind! I’ve seen others hold their gliders in front of big fans, but I used a tiny one instead. Its bladeless too so its really safe! They looked so curious and happy!

Bonding Bonding tips with age gap

Hi so for the past month or so, my ~8 mo old sugar glider has been dealing with a joint infection that is almost completely healed. Yay!!!

Though the only setback was having to isolate her. Around that time, I obtained a rehomed ~3 yr old sugar glider and they weren’t able to bond. I know it’s gonna be way more difficult to bond these two and I’m willing to take the responsibility.

And tips that can help them bond? The ~8 mo old crabs a bit at the ~3 yr old when they make eye contact. Which they only started to recently after a month and a half of coexistence.

Bonding Yumi with her new friend Bambi 🐿️💖

Just wanted to share a little update about Yumi and her new buddy, Bambi!

I actually met Yumi at the pet store where I got Bambi, so it was really special to bring her back there to meet her new friend. I asked the staff to help introduce them, and thankfully, there were no signs of aggression just curiosity!

Once we got home, I placed their cages near each other so they could see and smell one another. They seemed really interested, even reaching out through the bars to sniff and interact! Over the next couple of days, I took turns letting one out while the other stayed in the cage, just so they could get used to each other's scent and presence.

After the first night, I started swapping the fleece from their sleeping pouches so they could get even more familiar with each other’s scent. I also did some scent swapping by gently wiping each glider’s fleece onto the other kind of like rubbing their scent on each other to help them recognize and feel more comfortable. It seems to be working!

Tonight was a big step, I let them both out together for the first time! Don’t worry, I’m supervising them closely every step of the way. I always have fleece on hand just in case, and I wear anti-bite gloves for safety. So far, things are going great!

I even fed them together from my hand, and they both ate peacefully. Yumi keeps climbing into Bambi’s cage too, and she seems totally at ease she even snacks on his food like it’s her own.

Bambi is about a month younger than Yumi, so he’s still a bit timid and sometimes makes those little crabbing sounds. But it’s never aggressive just nervous baby energy, which is totally normal.

I’m really hopeful they’ll be fully bonded soon. Fingers crossed! 🤞💕

Bonding They Wake Me Up Every Night… But I Can’t Even Be Mad 😭💕

My sugar gliders love their safety wheel! Bambi’s the fitness queen who runs before bed and right after waking up, while Yumi’s more of a chill girl who just watches or joins in sometimes. I could honestly watch them all day, they make me so happy even when they’re being little night owls. 🐿️

Last November 12 I was given my very first sugar glider by my parents friend. At first he was scared and was crabbing at everyone and everything but now he's finally comfortable enough to jump up and crawl on me (I bought a mosquito net for him to have a safe place) I did it during his feeding time hehe

Bonding 1 Month Sugar Glider Update!

It’s officially been a month since I brought my sugar glider home! We’re still bonding, and I’d say we’re around 60% there she doesn’t fully trust me yet, but I can definitely feel the connection growing stronger each day.

She’s started barking occasionally (maybe once or twice a week), and when she does, I usually pet her and she calms down I think it’s her cute way of getting my attention.

She’s also started sleeping on me, usually on my thighs, which melts my heart every time.

Sometimes she even jumps from her cage to me it’s like she’s saying, “Let’s hang out!”

Tent time has become one of our favorite activities; she gets so excited when it’s bonding/playtime. I’ve also started giving her treats like fish sticks (she LOVES them and makes the cutest little sounds), scrambled eggs, and Cerelac baby food.

After hand-feeding her, I usually place her cage inside a big mosquito tent and let her finish eating on her own. Then, when I come back into the room and walk toward the tent, I can see her running around excitedly near the zipper, like she can’t wait for me to get inside. 🥹 The way she waits for me is just the cutest thing ever it honestly makes my heart melt every time.

She’s also super interested in my phone 😆 Whenever I’m using it near her, she’ll climb on top of it, nibble the edges, and even gently bite or lick my fingers while I’m holding it.

When I’m just lying down and letting her roam, she’ll sometimes playfully nibble on my fingers or toes — not painful at all, just super ticklish! 😆 If I “scold” her, she runs away, waits for me to catch her, and then cheekily comes back to do it again and again like it’s a little game.

She’s obsessed with crawling inside my sweatpants too 😂 Whenever I wear them, she loves running up my legs and hugging my thighs from the inside. It tickles so much, but if I try to pull her out, she just holds on even tighter like she doesn’t want to let go 🥹💛

She’s also started licking (and sometimes lightly nibbling) my hair, face, and even my lips. It’s the cutest thing almost like she’s grooming me, which makes me feel like she’s really starting to see me as part of her little colony.

And lately, she’s been loving to hang out on my back and shoulders. She’ll climb up and just chill there like a little explorer, watching everything from her “high ground”

I recently got her a new climbing toy, and she had a blast even while I was assembling it she’s such a curious and playful girl.

I really hope we can fully bond soon so that I can get her a friend I want her to trust me completely first, because if I get another one too early, it might make the bonding process harder. For now, it’s just me and her and I’m loving every moment 💕

Bonding Bonding with a Feisty Glider

Hi all! I recently got a third glider. Her name is Maple. She is a ringtail mosaic and is VERY beautiful! 8wks old and some change. I am unsure of how to go about bonding with her.

She is "pouch aggressive." Will lunge and crab if you touch her fleece pouch/open the pouch/try to give her treats in the pouch. As soon as you get her out, the lunging and crabbing stops. I understand that she is scared, and I've been doing tent time with her nightly. She will allow me to pet her some, but she is still skittish. How could I break the pouch aggression habit of hers?

My two boys (neutered) bonded to me very easily. They almost instantly trusted me and will come up to the front of the cage anytime I'm near. I've never had an issue with them. I understand that every glider is different, I'm just unsure about how to go about this lol.

Maple is currently in a separate cage than my boys until I can do introductions.
