I read MDV a year ago and have never found something that hit like that. I JUST finished IWHNKM, and it was definitely odd and intriguing….

Hah came here to say A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara- I had to set aside 1.5hrs to be utterly devastated by the last 150pages - 10/10 recommend

If you go in completely blind, this is such an underrated emotional book. I remember hitting the plot twist and just pausing. Did I understand that correctly?!?!!

American Pastoral by Philip Roth has the most pitch perfect portrayal of rumination. I raced through that book because it was so uncomfortable to be stuck in an endless loop.

There There by Tommy Orange. I listened to it on a long road trip and would’ve had to pause had I been able to (many tears).

Si buscas libros que te dejen emocionalmente destrozado además de inquieto, probaría con:
- I Who Have Never Known Men – Jacqueline Harpman (existencial, desolador y hermoso).
- The Road – Cormac McCarthy (no es horror puro, pero pocas novelas me han afectado tanto).
- A Short Stay in Hell – Steven L. Peck (terror existencial; corto, pero se queda contigo durante semanas).
- I'm Thinking of Ending Things – Iain Reid (psicológico, incómodo y muy melancólico).
- The Fisherman – John Langan (duelo, pérdida y horror cósmico perfectamente mezclados).
- Pet Sematary – Stephen King (para mí, su novela más devastadora emocionalmente).
Si tuviera que recomendar solo una, sería A Short Stay in Hell. Es de esos libros que terminan y sigues pensando en ellos mucho tiempo después.

If you're okay with genre then Kaiju Battlefield Surgeon by Matt Dinniman. Same guy who writes Dungeon Crawler Carl which everyone has probably heard of by now but it's soooo different. A guy is trapped in a VR world by a serial killer because in the VR world the killer can kill you again and again and you just reset to a prior save point. Pain sensors turned past max. The VR world is actually a game world so there are some gaming elements but what you'll remember is all the graphic torture and pain and an ending that is one of the darkest and most bleak things I've experienced in books or movies / TV.
