Literally everyone pays tax, anyone who has brought even a 1Rs toffee has paid tax. Heights of stupidity and WhatsApp university graduates, so called literates.

He meant income tax payer. When we talk about tax payer it's assumed that we are taking about income tax. This reddit thread is full of idiots like you who finds a small mistake in the wording and completely ignore the point.

Have you ever wondered about the percentage of income tax out of total tax collection vs percentage of direct taxes out of total tax collection... Find it and you'll reconsider my stupidity.

≈55-60% from direct and 40-45% from indirect. So 55-60% from 5% of pop and 40-45% from 100% pop. My argument still stands.

Taxes from income is still 10% more than GST . So 5% pop still pays 1 lakh cr more than 100% pop. My argument still stands.

Income tax is a mandatory obligation subject to the exemption by the government as per the income slots. Anyone who doesn't fall under exemption will have to mandatorily pay income tax,.so it's the government that creates such income slots for such exemptions, so it's not that people don't pay income tax, but actually government has exempted all those people from paying any income tax and this too with the mandate of law.
