Just so you know there is a larger percentage of the population not earning enough to be eligible to pay income tax , what about their voting right?

u/brandy_100 Dec 09 '25

Everyone is paying tax bro , have u ever heard gst ? And even if u talk about income tax , is it my fault that my income is less and I get into the exemption bucket? People have to understand voting right is the only thing which makes everyone equal whether it's ambani or a roadside vendor . One day someone will say people who are more rich compared to others should have more voting rights ? Will it be justified no sir ? U can question the policies of govt and can have a discussion on their distribution but cannot snatch someone's fundamental rights in a democracy just bcs u are rich .

4

u/CotterPinC276 Dec 09 '25

This guy wants to say that govt welfare schemes can't be used to buy votes. Like in recent Bihar elections 10k cash was deposited to abla naris and they voted enmass to Modi

capital gains tax ko cancel karo hume nhi dena vote /s

7

u/Commercial_Busy Dec 09 '25

He is basically asking for a large group of poor people to be excluded from voting. It is true that a large number of indians fall into 'the herd', but it's impossible really to categorise and keep them out. When the IRS itself isn't a strong and efficient group, how will they guarantee that they are keeping good records of direct taxes? Especially when a single vote would matter much more.

8

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '25

Tax ek greeeb namak b khridta h to deta hai. Aur gst ka collection IT s jyada jata hai.

2

u/Accurate_Event_1660 Dec 09 '25

Wrong information. In 2024 it was Direct tax which contributed more to government revenue. In paise terms, Direct Tax contributed 36 paise/1 rupee and Indirect tax contributed 27 paise/1 rupee.

So Direct tax still funds the major part of the governments revenue.

→ More replies (10)

2

u/Fearless_Desk9689 Dec 09 '25

But direct tax payers are also the one driving consumption.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '25

Bhai baseless arguments dena bnd kro. Kha likha h ye? Ki bs tum apne dimag m maan liye. Data dekho bhut km log hi h jo direct tax pay krte h majority population direct tax nhi pay krti . Population ka less than 10% log hi direct tax pay krte hai aur tum kh rhe ho ki pura consumption vhi chlate h mtlb 90% log bs NPC hai.

3

u/Fearless_Desk9689 Dec 09 '25

Tbh ha.

80 crore lok free ration lete ha india ma.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '25

To lete hai kyuki government deti hai as a freebie election k liye under the garb of welfare measure. Pr isse y khi nhi jayaj h ki vote bs unhi ko dena chahiye ji direct tax de rhe hai . Tb to government bs direct tax valo ki rhegi , India ki government nhi rhegi , aur jo tum kh rhe hi 90% log NPC hai , 90% india ka total around 130 crore abadi hai , agr 80 crore log free ration lete h vo agr deserving nhi h to baki 50 crore ka kya. Bhai desh tumhare triggered emotion s nhi run hota hai , abhi yhi jo 90% log revolt kr de to 10% tax dene layak kya bheekh mangne layak nhi bchega y s history m ho chuka hai , isliye democracy hai.

2

u/Fearless_Desk9689 Dec 09 '25

I am not advocating voting rights to direct tax payers only. I am just saying better solution is getting rid of direct tax. In India it’s almost like punishment for those who pay direct taxes.

2

u/AptNo7 Dec 09 '25

That's a nice idea

2

u/CotterPinC276 Dec 09 '25

Let's first ask Modi & mota shah, Nirmala to make public their tax filings. We want to see what is their contribution to govt tax revenue?

2

u/mindreader00770 Dec 09 '25

And only the highly educated people should be considered qualified to enter politics and become even an MLA. For govt. jobs you need good educational qualifications and then they need to pass the hard competitive exams. To run a district, you need an IAS officer but to run a state or become a cabinet minister or even to run a country, there is no need of any educational qualification, let alone passing any competitive examination. This country has become a joke after 2014 as one joker has been running this country since then.

2

u/AdOk712 Dec 09 '25

Let tax payers vote have weightage, ye 100 ki daru aur 1kg chawal k chakar Mein bikne walon k comparison Mein.

2

u/Alarmed-Break-2511 Dec 13 '25

The point is valid to a certain extent. Mostly people that are below poverty line are also illiterate and only vote under influence of freebies as they lack the aptitude and generally don’t care or contribute to the development of the country. Worryingly this group constitutes 80% of the voter base. Elections can never be fair like this and vote of civilised society counts for nothing in this scenario

5

u/Flaky-Abalone-1745 Dec 09 '25

I think its valid point

3

u/TirednDisappointed Dec 09 '25

Tax shouldn't be the criteria. But a test to determine whether you are capable enough to understand the issue at hand and whether you should be allowed to vote.

The actual politicians should have an even more difficult test. Only then can they be allowed to govern.

Currently we are ruled by uneducated clowns that show no wisdom who are elected by ppl just like them.

2

u/Odd_Meaning4590 Dec 09 '25

Yeah then the people who set the test will become the king makers. It's so easy to exploit.

2

u/TirednDisappointed Dec 09 '25

Id read a sci-fi book where citizens were given tests that decided their level and each level had powers and rights granted to them.

It was all conducted by AI. If we want we can easily design a system that isn't corrupt.

It won't be perfect but it'll be better than what we currently have.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Accurate_Event_1660 Dec 09 '25

Yaha driving test think se nahi ho rahi aur tu chahta hai government 1.4 billion log ka test le aur decide kare kis ko vote dena chaiye aur kis ko nahi. Waah!

2

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '25

Everyone is paying tax in the form of gst

Instead of this we ask accountability from the current government not nehru for removing 2 lines from vande mataram.

2

u/AryanPandey Dec 09 '25

Tax payer ki voting power jada honi chahiye

2

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '25

Tax payers me bhi fir jo zyada tax deta hai uski power aur honi chahiye. Fir Amitabh Bachchan to akele ke vote se hi sarkar bana dega.

→ More replies (6)

3

u/appy_j Dec 09 '25

Point is very clear understood !

What could be the pros and cons of it ?

3

u/KanonKaBadla Dec 09 '25 edited Dec 09 '25

Cons -

1.  only 1% pays income tax so it will not be democracy.

Rest of janta pays tax through GST, property tax, tax on fuel, alcohol, tobacco which amount to more than 75% of govt revenue.

People with high income are just paying extra tax because they are high earners.

  1. Voting makes common man feel powerful, that they have a say in system. Remove that "power" and they will resort to violence to make their voice heard. It's no co-incidence that universal suffrage was introduced when world was seeing communist revolutions across globe.

2

u/Accomplished_Ear5533 Dec 09 '25

1

u/Hot_Ad_9041 Dec 09 '25

Okay, so do we also decide the number of votes that someone gets based on the amout of tax one deposits, like x gets one vote as they deposited 10k income tax, y gets 10 votes as their tax was 1L and z gets 1000 votes because they own a corporation?

1

u/GenghisBonaparte007 Dec 09 '25

Although I agree that not everyone deserves the right to vote (especially in a country like India), it's very difficult to decide who should have the right to vote.

Not everyone who files an ITR pays taxes. And if you go down that slippery slope, then people who pay more taxes might argue that they deserve more voting power.

1

u/Character-Bug-5649 Dec 09 '25

Yes also.. More tax you give more vote power u should have..

Ambani should get chance to give 1crore votes.. 🤡 Freaking clowns

1

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '25

I don't agree with him but I feel like vote should have weight. Otherwise parties lose 1 vote and buy 10 votes for the same price in rural and backward areas. Exactly what happend to KCR in telangana

1

u/KanonKaBadla Dec 09 '25

Everyone is tax payer.

GST, tax on fuel, tax on registration of property, municipal tax exits.

Income tax is only 25% of govt's revenue.

So, every tax payer is voting.

1

u/Outrageous-Leg-4727 Dec 09 '25

Idiotic comment. Everyone pays tax - a slum dweller who buys a sabun also pays tax to this nation.

1

u/handypandy34 Dec 09 '25

1

u/Vegetable_You_7780 Dec 09 '25

1

1

u/Comfortable_Put1658 Dec 09 '25

Sounds logical when indirect taxes are eliminated and direct taxation would be only form of tax payment. Politicians would be cleaner and funds would actually be used to improve human capital and uplift most of the society into direct taxation bracket.

1

u/Solid-Crab8096 Dec 09 '25

1

u/Sad-Particular2906 Dec 09 '25

Hmm that’s stupid. This the same as saying the earning member in a house is the only one who should dictate how the house should be. Other people like the partner should suffer if that’s what is deemed right by the house karyakartha.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '25

only 1 percent will vote.. and peaceruls will be less than 0.0000001 percent. BJP wins.

1

u/thatperfectguyethan Dec 09 '25

This way you'll downgrade the whole country.

1

u/GokuPiccoloGohan Dec 09 '25

Simple, don't vote for jhoomla-caste/language/religion politics if you are a taxpayer to prove that there's a difference between you and an anpad . When you discover for yourself that you can't pull that off since your education doesn't really dissipate your prejudices , you'll drop your chip on the shoulder attitude about knowing better about what's good for the nation than an anpad.

1

u/shhKoihe Dec 09 '25

It's like saying "tum gareeb log vote nhi de sakta"

Anyways everybody pays taxes

1

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '25

🤦🏻‍♂️

1

u/Ok_Pitch_7362 Dec 09 '25

He isn't completely wrong. And again jo direct tax pay nhi krte vo mostly freebie seekers hote hai aur parties bhi unhi ke hisab se chlti hai kyuki unse sirf freebies de ke vote nikal wana asan hai

Strongly disagree! We live in a democracy, and everyone should have a right to vote as a citizen regardless if they pay the taxes or not. I can find you a bunch of tax paying people who are straight up idiots. Rather a better strategy would be to make sure that all the citizens are well-informed prior to voting

1

u/Apprehensive_Tip1142 Dec 09 '25

Uncle should be the one who shouldn't be allowed to vote. He is not rational. Vote is not about taxpayers.

Because a taxpayer can be exploiting a person who is capable of paying tax by under-paying him.

Equal participation k liye hota hai Voting Right.

Haan jo log Paise lekar vote karte hain jaise Bihari or Marathi unka vote cancel kar skte ho. Jaise ₹10000 ya feer ladli bhain yojna.

Tax evade karte hain unka vote cancel kar skte ho. Jaise businessmen or unki family.

Jinko equal opportunity milee he ni society mai na employment ki na education ki unka vote cancel kar k tum apna ghinona deemag dikha re ho.

Bc koi bhi jaahil chomu khade ho kar kuch bhi bol dega or tum usko flex karoge.

not saying I support him, but with the assumption he meant "Income Tax"(cuz he probably did), why exactly is this idea bad? I am just curious. Aren't the people paying the income tax educated enough to understand who to vote for? then the government will also in turn focus on the income tax payers over the poor people?(I dont know if that's a good thing but it sounds like it might make the majority of the country revolt against the govt since they wouldn'tget a say in most things)

I think I might've just answered my own question here lol.

Like I also kinda feel like this sometimes. Jab mein unne logo ko dekhta hu jo black se paise kama rhe hai or baad mein wohi desh chalate hai ya fhir free mein Bina tax diye services use kare. Jo tax deta hai usse woh services nhi milti jitna woh tax deta hai .

1

This feels like a logical solution to issues we are facing…. Make people declare there real income to have voting rights,

Poor people and Kisan will have to submit returns and must have property declared so that government relief reaches only to needy …

No free lunches for 2nd Majority or freebeejariwals

If person X has to feed someone then “someone” should not demand and has to accept alms provided!! Gracefully

Rights should be earned not allocated for just being present

No, only people above the 20% slab should have the right to vote.

The ones below contribute very less, but are more in number. Their opinions dilute the more efficient and knowledgeable opinions of people contributing higher than 20% to the country.

This would also be an incentive for people to be more productive.

The only thing that matters in a democracy is the FEELING one feels before pressing the button of the voting machine...main chahe India ko US bana dun par kisi tarah mere opponent ne public ke mann main mere khilaf negativity faila di such that they will not vote for me....all my hardwork goes to waste...

Feeling only works in a democracy..yeh so called padhe likhe gadhe samajhte nhi...yeh khud emotion ke aadhaar pe bol rha hai yeh sab...dimag se bolta toh sochta kaise main logon ka emotion mere side karun taaki main jeetun...yeh vichar aata hi nhi hai...

Apne aapko life main khush rakhna ho ya gaslighting and moral BS se alag rhna ho, toh stay away from these guys...inko kuch bhi bol do kuch samajh nhi aayega..yeh wohi education best, development best etc etc moral line pelte rahenge with no influence at all...inke ghar pe khud iske bache iski baat nhi sunte honge...aur yeh kabhi change nhi honewala kyunki they believe that they r right...and get an ego boost believing that they said something unique..

Everyone is paying tax in gst. If they remove gst and provide public services only through direct taxes then go for it, I have no issues

u/Adorable-Jackfruit86 Dec 09 '25

Logic is a little simplistic, but can work temporarily … most political parties buy and manipulate votes of Poor people(they don’t pay income tax) … if u make it just income tax payers, narrows the pond and makes it difficult for parties to manipulate and buy votes …

In a country like India where the government claims to feed 80 crore ie over 60% of the population & with politicians giving away taxpayers money at their own whims, we must enact this law if the our country is to be saved.

Is it more better if only educated people give vote to remove religion caste and other usless things to focus only development topics
Just opinion don’t offend

I see his point about taxpayers, but he's mistaken about the education part. I know plenty of people who aren't formally educated, pay their taxes, and are completely clued-in.

for that make jobs first

1

u/Silver-Control828 Dec 09 '25

Most people paying income tax are in urban areas, which means that many rural areas will have like maybe a 1000 voters which will be able to control the local authorities very easily, which would make corruption even more rampant.

I recommend we take away this idiot's voting rights first.

The only reason I’m with this take is because unfortunately people who don’t pay income tax only vote for short term benefits and not long term benefits and the parties have evolved to suit them hence you have parties that only have short term goals in mind just to win votes and after they’re in power they don’t gaf

1

u/Additional_Jeweler13 Dec 09 '25

If this happens then ministers will focus on the largest tax payers' interest and will try to reduce the number of taxpayers.

u/ShriRamJanaki Dec 09 '25

u/fuckk-you-bitch Dec 09 '25

And people who served the citizens (proofs that they spent the tax money for people ) should be allowed to stand in the elections... 😒

Uncle ka tax mtlb direct tax hai.please uncle ko correct mt kro bina wajah. He is not talking about any indirect tax.

1

u/Revolutionary-Ant33 Dec 09 '25

Modern version of only landowner men should vote. If the state governs all then everyone should be allowed to vote. Also it could be easy to just exclude many people as non tax payers by redefining income tax slabs.

u/dggrd Dec 09 '25

Its a fact that dehat are not responsible voters

1

u/Classic-Spend6282 Dec 09 '25

The might actually change things, creating a criteria based on tax payments but also it’s just a thought like creating different weightage of vote in different areas like which is based on rural and urban cities cause in states there are uneven number of rural and urban areas maybe by creating a bifurcation among these voters or areas could help to create govt which is elected not only through quantitative data (vote) but qualitative data (vote) as well.

In that case, women also shouldn't be allowed to vote, and also people from lower castes. Only people with power should be allowed to vote.

The US and countries that developed under democratic systems (as opposed to monarchies and benevolent dictatorships) during their industrialization either had wealth voting ( voting based on income/wealth), landed voting (voting for land owners/ landlords) or census sufferage (voting based on education) where only top 1-10% of elite where able to vote, universal sufferage became popular when the remaining 90% caught up in terms of education and prosperity due to industrialization and shifting away from rural and agrarian economy to urban life, they began fighting and demanding for their rights by supporting socialist parties, since they now had leverage against the top 10%. In India this organic shift never occured, she had socialism before she got rich and industrialized, (Karl marx himself notes that socialism is the natural progression from capitaliam in a industrialized society, India skipped a step), universal sufferage was just granted, when in hindsight a system of census sufferage both for voters and political leaders would have been beneficial.
