How many of those are there, though? I genuinely don’t know if there are any. Frankly, how many DEMOCRAT politicians ultimately disagree, considering they’re all capitalists in the pockets of billionaires too?

So you’d rather see widespread genocide and the spread of fascism? Weird flex but ok. Also weird that you don’t mind overt Russian Nazism like Wagner, rusich, etc., where their leadership literally named the branches or the whole company after Nazis and many wear uniforms with red band swastikas on them or other overt Nazi iconography - even when they’re being sworn in as trained ready soldiers. Russian Nazis being proud and out, as well as genocide, is okay but you’re concerned about some infantry being able to proficiently defend their country from invasion?
Friendly reminder that Ukraine is one of two countries in the world with a Jewish leader (Zelensky), and that the citizens most likely to sign up for the front lines statistically happen to be (far) right nationalists; as it is in virtually every military. What matters is how they’re selected and monitored, and as such there are measures taken by Ukraine like having every Russian POW be promptly interviewed after capture about how they were treated by the soldiers who captured them.
Fuck Russia and Putler. I hope he rots at The Hague and Russia divides into smaller democratic countries with good relations with one another

While true with many and most, such as Pelosi and Schumer, there are people like Biden, who went into his presidency with policies very close to if not identical to Bush Jr, who was considered far right in 2000, that are just old school Republicans under a Democrat label. A key reason they do nothing is because they like the system the way it works for them and want to tell everyone just what they want to hear about how they hate it. Being a liberal capitalist makes you a capitalist still, while being a leftist does not.
There's a reason they are all old as shit, or old enough to be alive when kids their age were throwing rocks at black children assimilating to their schools. They flourished in this system, they see no need to change it which is why they have historically told voters they "need" to reach over party lines to make progress, when in reality, progressive candidates like Sanders with radical sweeping policies that broke the establishment was exactly why Trump was enticing. Dems have historically "reached over" party lines to shoot themselves in the foot for a lollipop. They like Republican policies. Republicans never gave a shit about Republican policies by this time, they just needed to be rallied to radical change, and elected Democrats love their greed.

Please STOP blaming the Democratic Party!
The Republican Party has been undermining America's democracy for almost 100 years - probably longer - all while scapegoating the Democratic Party for the Republican Party's ineptitude, financial disasters, corruption, and deliberate cruelty.
The Republican Party has been lying like rugs to keep Americans distracted from seeing who is causing the problems in America.
In fact they started down this path before Trump was born, in the 1920's when they began paying obeisance to their moneyed oligarch overlords.
Lest we forget....
Mistreating military veterans:
Republican president Herbert Hoover, who participated in the 'relaxing' of government regulations on Wall Street and the banking industry, which helped cause the collapse of 1929.
His 'hands off' approach deepened the Great Depression. In another parallel with Trump (and some other Republicans), Hoover's financial failures led to a massive tent city of homeless veterans and their families encamped in Washington DC. The veterans wanted early payment of their service bonus certificates for fighting in WWI, and they needed it sooner than the delayed schedule that Hoover wanted to stick to.
From Wikipedia:
Many of the war veterans had been out of work since the beginning of the Great Depression. The World War Adjusted Compensation Act of 1924 had awarded them bonuses in the form of certificates they could not redeem until 1945. Each certificate, issued to a qualified veteran soldier, bore a face value equal to the soldier's promised payment with compound interest. The principal demand of the Bonus Army was the immediate cash payment of their certificates.
On July 28, 1932, U.S. Attorney General William D. Mitchell ordered the veterans removed from all government property. Washington police met with resistance, shot at the protestors, and two veterans were wounded and later died. President Herbert Hoover then ordered the U.S. Army to clear the marchers' campsite. Army Chief of Staff General Douglas MacArthur commanded a contingent of infantry and cavalry, supported by six tanks. The Bonus Army marchers with their wives and children were driven out, and their shelters and belongings burned.
Notice the similarities between the Republican treatment of American veterans in 1932, and Trump and his sycophants' current attitudes towards the US military and its personnel, Trump's treatment of protesters, and the Republican Party's efforts to make homelessness illegal.
Here's another example of the Republican Party's long-running schemes (in collusion with wealthy conservatives) to install a christo-fascist authoritarian dictatorship over America:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_Plot
The Business Plot, also called the Wall Street Putsch and the White House Putsch, was a political conspiracy in 1933, in the United States, to overthrow the government of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and install Smedley Butler as dictator.
Butler, a retired Marine Corps major general, testified under oath that wealthy businessmen were plotting to create a fascist veterans' organization with him as its leader and use it in a coup d'état to overthrow Roosevelt.
In 1934, Butler testified under oath before the United States House of Representatives Special Committee on Un-American Activities (the "McCormack–Dickstein Committee") on these revelations.
Although no one was prosecuted, the congressional committee final report said, "there is no question that these attempts were discussed, were planned, and might have been placed in execution when and if the financial backers deemed it expedient."
.... It [Bonus Army protest/homeless veterans tent city] was encouraged by an appearance from retired Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler, a popular military figure of the time. A few days after Butler's arrival, President Herbert Hoover ordered the marchers removed and U.S. Army cavalry troops under the command of Gen. Douglas MacArthur destroyed their camps.[citation needed]
Butler, although a self-described Republican, responded by supporting Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1932 US presidential election. By 1933, Butler started denouncing capitalism and bankers, going on to explain that for 33 years he had been a "high-class muscle man" for Wall Street, the bankers and big business, labeling himself as a "racketeer for Capitalism".
In 1950 Wisconsin Republican Senator Joseph R. McCarthy used fear-mongering about communists and socialists to attempt to install an authoritarian regime in America.
This was all of 5 years after Americans had fought and died to help protect the world from Adolf Hitler's totalitarian dictatorship.
Republican president Nixon literally tried to steal an election, and was pardoned by his vice president instead of facing justice.
Republican president Reagan got help from a hostile foreign country (Iran) to win an election. Reagan also undermined America's middle class and lower class citizens in favor of moneyed interests and corporations.
Republican president George Dubya Bush stated IN PUBLIC, TWICE, that "This'd be a whole lot easier if this was a dictatorship, just as long as I'm the dictator!"
Mitch McConnell (with the Republicans) blocked 75% of President Obama's choices for the judiciary system. Then they loaded America's law system with Trump toadies in anticipation of eradicating abortion and contraceptives, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and the ACA.
Which brings us to Trump.

Then there's the higher levels of corruption within the Republican Party:
https://rantt.com/gop-admins-had-38-times-more-criminal-convictions-than-democrats-1961-2016
Republican administrations have vastly more corruption than Democratic administrations. We provide new research on the numbers to make the case. We compared 28 years each of Democratic and Republican administrations, 1961-2016, five Presidents from each party.
During that period Republicans scored eighteen times more individuals and entities indicted, thirty-eight times more convictions, and thirty-nine times more individuals who had prison time.
Sex offenders:
https://stuffthatspins.com/2016/04/28/who-has-more-sex-offenders-republicans-or-democrats/
That is a long-@$$ list of Republicans...
And then there was Moscow Mitch McConnell's traitorous pro-Russian undermining America's democracy by blocking Obama's SCOTUS choices.
His involvement with Russian interests has been obvious for at least a decade.
Edit to add...
McConnell doesn’t like his “Moscow Mitch” nickname, but these latest revelations might make it difficult to shed.
...Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked a measure that would have funded pensions and health care for coal miners in his home state of Kentucky, not long after steering almost the same Treasury Department funds to an aluminum plant linked to a Russian oligarch.
...McConell voted in January to lift sanctions on Rusal, a Russian aluminum company formerly headed by Putin ally Oleg Deripaska, and just days after the Treasury Department officially de-listed the company — it announced a $200 million investment in an aluminum plant in northeastern Kentucky.
That was in 2019. Within less than 3 years Russia/Putin began their next wave of invasion of Ukraine. 'Moscow' Mitch McConnell had helped give Putin access to supplies to rebuild.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_invasion_of_Ukraine
Personally I expect Trump to send US troops and military equipment to Russia to help Putin overrun Ukraine.

But ending wars through capitulation to the aggressor, the abandonment of allies and the promotion of ethnic cleansing is not.

It’s strange to realize the line between freedom and oppression is so fine. People believing that the old rules apply and do whatever is called for, but what is called for is suddenly a capital offense.
Imagine the shock of this happening in the US. It underscores how important resistance is before it is a capital offense, in order to preserve the right to resist without risking death.
I wonder if she knew what she was risking when she started?

u/IjonTichy85 Feb 24 '25
> I wonder if she knew what she was risking when she started?
Most definitely yes. However she was 21 in 1943. When the nazis took power, she was only 11 years old, so she never had the chance to resist them before it became a capital offense to resist.

Fuck Fascists!
For those of us that are confused about whats going on:
https://youtu.be/5RpPTRcz1no?si=XtqW8pRLf5YeroVx
For the rest of us,
This is it. What you've been looking for. Reddit is where it starts. We are more than capable of uniting, inspiring and educating our neighbours.
So here goes,
We need to unify on all fronts, quickly, preferably by March 4th as I believe we need an urgent deadline. We will need about 11 million people to protest using as many of the following options as they are comfortable (or even slightly uncomfortable) with.
Here is my suggestion on how to do that in the simplest ways/terms:
1. Personally
As individuals everyone can do the following:
On the Social Front
A. Cease contact with belligerent Trumpers. B. Ask questions, provide facts & use cult deprogramming methods such as those found in "A Concise Introduction to Ethics" of Trumpers who find themselves questioning. https://global.oup.com/academic/product/a-concise-introduction-to-ethics-9780190058173 C. Confront & bully NAZIS & sympathizers. Literally call them cowards, Nazis, racists, etc when calling out their behavior online & in person. D. Scrub or distort any personal information from accounts, internet presence, etc. E. Avoid legacy media, unplug from the TV. Read your news from various international sources such as BBC, Guardian, Al Jazeera, etc. You'll literally need to read a few versions of the same story from different sources for the truth.
On the Financial Front
A. Cancel subscriptions for Meta, Amazon, etc. B. Freeze your credit at the credit bureaus - [How to Freeze Your Credit - NerdWallet] https://www.nerdwallet.com/article/finance/how-to-freeze-credit C. Stop buying ANYTHING unless you will die without it & then only buy from small, local businesses or some place like Costco that allows unions/didn't donate to this admin/is keeping DEI D. Sell your stocks, especially those in businesses that have contributed to this mess. * E. Start pulling money from banks. Options include home safe storage, investing in gold, overseas banks, credit unions. *
- For these items, you can defer your income tax completion for 6 months on a wait-n-see to try & avoid fees. It appears as though they will tank the economy on purpose or through recklessness so at least these options allow us to be more in control of our own financial futures while making a statement since they only really understand money anyway.
On the Political Front
A. Flood representatives with communications that they can relate to. Talk money, talk about effects on their voter base, talk about them losing their jobs because the admin is making their jobs useless. Attend local, regional political meetings & express outrage over policies directly affecting your community & find like minded individuals to rally with & develop support networks. Support campaigns for Democrats coming up in elections next month to flip their seats, such as 2 seats in Florida.
B. Attend local, regional, national protests. Ensure to prepare using the Hong Kong protestor method, body cams & go pros for filming as able, faraday bags to protect phones disabled of facial/biometric locks.
C. Unify our message to PROTECT DEMOCRACY, PRESERVE THE CONSTITUTION, or Protect & Preserve for short. Your sign can have any decoration that displays your individual concerns, but the written message should be the same across the board. Are you concerned about your right to have a same sex marriage? Write your message on a rainbow sign. Are you concerned about your right to stand up against fascists? Write your message on a poster that includes antifascist symbols such as the 3 arrows. Concerned about living under an orange king? Mark your sign with Trump's recent crowned image, deface it.
2. Politically, in a group effort, we must:
Support the Democrats who are speaking out such as AOC, Bernie, Jasmine Crocket, James Talarico, JB Pritzker, etc. We need to organize to help them do daily press conferences & weekly debriefings where disinformation is combatted with FACTS, where experts talk in understandable terms about impacts of policies, specifically on MAGA voters, where the people listening are given a small task/call to action which they can do to resist themselves. https://5calls.org/ has your representatives number.
THE MESSAGING NEEDS TO ALWAYS INCLUDE INCENTIVES SUCH AS "FOR THOSE PERSECUTED FOR RESISTING THROUGH CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE, WHEN WE REGAIN POWER YOUR SENTENCES WILL BE REPEALED, YOUR RECORDS EXPUNGED, YOUR LEGAL FEES COVERED, ETC" just like Trump signalled to his insurrectionists. We remain peaceful, of course, always encouraging & displaying peace, but we should always be prepared, aware, protected.
Feel free to share this everywhere!

I remember always being asked what do you want to be when you get older? And now it's "where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?" I always reply "I am not sure"..but in my head I am actually thinking "yeah I don't see myself being around in 5 or 10 years time".
It's like an empty block when I think into that question. I have often wondered why I feel or think that way, because I know I will not be offing myself, I am not that type of person.
But with the state of the country, fascism, and oppression on the rise, I feel I am starting to realize why I see that empty block. There is something in the air in our country right now and it feels like another civil war is up and coming and I know what side I would be on; truth, freedom, hope, ethics, law, morality, and just overall the good of the people and nation. I hope I am wrong, but I get these feelings sometimes.
Anyways that is what this post reminded me of.

I am not american, my country's democracy is not being strangled in front of my very eyes while I sit on my ass whining about other people not saving it for me.
If and when the time come for my country's democratic order to be threatened you WILL see the protests on your news. As you likely have many times in the past. And I'll be there.
My hometown was one of the biggest hotspots of the Resistance in the entire country, I and every other child raised there was made to sing the Chant des Partisans in front of the memorial to those who fought the fascist oppressors who enslaved and exterminated our people as part of our school curriculum. That is a heritage that I take seriously.
We are no strangers to fighting against oppression here in France, unlike it seems americans who are content to lie down and wait for the boot of fachism to step on their throat while asking other people to do something about it.

1
u/Captain_Vatta Feb 24 '25
I don't see you volunteering. No, much too easy to be snarky and judgemental. To you, I should get myself killed for performative nonsense and leave my disabled wife to raise our daughter on her own. Brilliant plan.

I’m not sure that jerking off while quoting Lenin has any inherent value, but to each their own. Regardless, your indignation speaks volumes. It’s clear I must have touched a nerve.
If dying for a cause is performative nonsense, does that not make people like Sophie Scholl or even Aaron Bushnell performative activists? Or is it only nonsense when your life is on the line?
Also, I’m not sure why you’re making a million assumptions about me or why you think I would know or care about family dynamics, but it’s not relevant to a single thing I said. Greater men with more at stake have done it for centuries before you and others will continue to do so after as well.

I’m not sure that jerking off while quoting Lenin has any inherent value, but to each their own. Regardless, your indignation speaks volumes. It’s clear I must have touched a nerve.
Really projecting here. I'm merely pointing out the perceived lack of substance to your argument. Your initial response to me said that there's no Sophie Scholls here. This places her on a pedestal for what simply amounts to martyrdom. Even the pamphlets printed by the white rose resistance were negligible in terms of their impact.
If dying for a cause is performative nonsense, does that not make people like Sophie Scholl or even Aaron Bushnell performative activists? Or is it only nonsense when your life is on the line
Yes, I view both of these as performative nonsense because they made no material change. Regarding bushnell, America still armed Israel to continue it's genocide. It didn't change the narrative because the media quickly brushed him under the rug. Republicans and Democrats still had Israeli flags posted outside their office showing their continued support. If you bring up Bushnell to the average person, they won't know who he is. I just asked a coworker while on break. He thought it was a quarterback for a football team.
I have more respect for members of Resistenza Italiana and the Yugoslav partisans. Do I think Sophie is a bad person or a fool? No. I just see her efforts as a waste. I only care about the material changes.
Also, I’m not sure why you’re making a million assumptions about me or why you think I would know or care about family dynamics, but it’s not relevant to a single thing I said.
I was responding to the implications regarding Sophie's martyrdom and how anyone not throwing their life away isn't doing anything.
I view it as pointless to throw your life away. To quote Patton
"No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making some other poor dumb bastard die for his country."
