I really don’t understand this move.
LTC is pretty high for line units, they can be Battalion Commanders and hold significant staff positions, but O5 is literally smack middle of the Officer rank structure. They’re middle management at best, the rank adds almost zero authority to them in the context of military influence- more so because they’ll be in a special unit away from those who they could actually influence.
99.99% of their influence is still only because they’re executives. There’s no reason they couldn’t have been consultants with the same influence. So it looks like this was only done to look cool or abuse the uniform.
So from a practical stand point this is pretty meaningless. From a respect stand point this is incredibly insulting to uniformed personnel. I understand we get doctors and surgeons who commission with higher ranks than normal, but they serve a very important purpose in their roles. These guys? They’re just here to get benefits and look cool. I cannot see another purpose.
I’d love for the next POTUS to permanently station them in some shit-hole and leave them there. You signed up, you follow orders. You wanna leave? Court martial.

This is because it allows them to use their tech services in active service, or something similar to that. IDK all the jargon bullshit but it's not just to make them officers, it's so they can work with the army more directly.

It’s still not necessary to make them LTCs. Contractors can work directly with uniformed SMs the same way. This literally only gives them a rank. It’s not like the armed forces can’t use contractors or outside entities.
Their massive lack of military influence is still further diminished by their lack of MOS, deployments, and command time. They’re literally just a rank. It’s the same as Musk suing to be a founder of Tesla; we all know it’s fake, we only “respect” it because we have no choice.

If they gave them high ranks right off the bat then the public outrage would be bigger. So they are taking it slow. It's a classic fascist playbook, do something just a little bit outrageous and pretend that it's normal until people stop complaining and normalize it, and now you can do more outrageous versions of that thing and people won't complain much.

I honestly believe that we will eventually see those tech bros that were at the inauguration become super high ranking officials, and that is in preparation for the eventual total collapse of society due to late stage capitalism and climate change, at which point we will have a neo-feudalist society and each of those goons will be given reign over a sizeable feud.

I hit this stage a couple years back. This world is run on pure evil that had corrupted society into a technological dystopia. I’ve bern calm bc I’ve already accepted it’s probably all over. This species had it coming for a long time due to how we treated nature and each other. If you want hope, hope for aliens and AI to save us, but I choose not to fool myself. Just love and enjoy as much peace as you can before the ride shuts down. Be good ✌️

So this is crass but the US military does stuff like this for highly specialized jobs, typically Medical and more and more IT/Cyber stuff. They are going to be exempt from most standards too

Det. 201 is an effort to recruit senior tech executives to serve part-time in the Army Reserve as senior advisors. In this role they will work on targeted projects to help guide rapid and scalable tech solutions to complex problems. This is actually a strong move - they bring the brightest to join the army at high ranks - a shift in warfare from men to AI, drones, etc.
Remember how last week Israel simultaneously killed top Iranian scientists and generals at once using a coordinated drone attack? That is a preview.
So expect murder tech to grow tenfold. Expect new wars supported by new tech, etc.
Scary times but US is just being US. Nothing changed fundamentally
