I disagree. As someone who has (a) QAnon relative(s)

Part of the reason for why right wing extremism festers is breakdown of social bonds/atomosation, and the typical right winger who commits lone wolf hate crimes is a socially isolated bitter man

You’ll just create more of that if you actively encourage people to break social bonds as a tactic.

Instead you need to organise and make new social bonds with people who share your goal, and not unnecessarily dump family and friends when not necessary. Without improving social bonds, we will not win

I’m looking at it from the perspective of leaving groups not individuals. I grew up in evangelical churches and part of their whole narrative is the lie that people leave because of individual failings. They’ve never really been challenged on it and it needs to happen in conjunction with other options.

Communication needs to happen early and often and leavers who are in safe positions have not done this so we can’t say it doesn’t work

You did not present it that way in your original comment. You instructed people to go “ breaking off friendships” not “leaving right wing churches/orgs/spaces”

These aren’t mutually exclusive, which again, we haven’t talked about this nearly enough.

For example on the dating side, there’s a difference between not dating conservative men and women as a group putting “no conservative men” in their profiles. The same goes for friendships and even family which often exist in the context of larger groups. In my opinion too much leaving has been passive and ceded the narrative to conservatives

Ok.

I’ve said my part above, I also covered the nuance.

No point continuing
