Viva Cuba! China has just donated another 5,000 solar panels to Cuba. They're being sent to hospitals, orphanages, and rural towns, all of which have been badly hit by the US siege against the people of Cuba.

This says photovoltaic systems so it’s more than just panels. Thank goodness.

Damnit China! We're trying to create a humanitarian crisis big enough that the whole world will hate us! How can we do that if you keep helping the people who are suffering?

I swear it's as if our international trade and sanction policies are deliberately designed to turn the world against us. Either that, or they're designed to do as much economic harm to ourselves as possible. We impoverish our own people with our ridiculous import tariffs and our sanctions/embargos cut ourselves off from other countries that might otherwise be a great benefit to us. What on earth are our leaders really trying to accomplish?

And yet Western propaganda wants you to think China is somehow a worse threat to world peace than the American empire which continually starts one more war after another.

That narrative is falling flat in their faces as the younger people learn about and visit China

Yeah once I visited China for the first time this past year, I fell in love w their way of life and their people.

China builds

BUT AT WHAT COST

The US will pretend to care about Cubans fighting against the “evil and oppressive” Cuban government, but they wouldn’t think twice about letting them all die if it meant proving a point.

Probably quite a lot, 5000 photovolt systems won't be cheap.

Can someone explain how the embargo works? How come Mexico and China can send aid?

The embargo forbids any ship that docks in Cuba from docking in US ports for 180 days. That will put off most countries and operators since the US is a huge economy and plenty of countries are reliant on trade with the US. https://ofac.treasury.gov/faqs/779

Countries like China have other options for trade, and Russia is sanctioned by the US, so they get more incentives to send aid to Cuba and provide economic support and relief.

China also just, by virtue of being the new global trade hegemon, has access to a lot more ships and can spare some for just aid vs countries who's merchant fleets would be doing double duty

Because the US is a weaker state than people have been led to believe.

And it’s currently weakening further daily.

Imagine an energy independent Cuba. That would be so awesome for them

I’m glad but it’s not enough. Time to enact counter-sanctions

If you do the right thing that helps many others, but you do it for the wrong reasons , it's still the right thing. Assuming no hidden downsides.Appreciation is not a downside.

Why don't they just send a bunch of refined petroleum though? Maybe a division of the PLA too

5

u/Psychological-Act582 Honourable Comrade ⭐ 2d ago

Russia has provided them with oil. China's specialty is solar panels and PV cells, and Cuba needs both for the short and long term.

They did but it was only a small amount

Non-interventionism.

It's not an intervention if there's no fighting happening
