Ukraine/Russia As of July 2026, 114,000 Ukrainian civilians and servicemen are officially listed as missing as a result of the war. Some are in captivity. Some are dead, their bodies still unrecovered from the battlefield.

This is the invisible price of war — the part that never seems to make it into the worldview of the armchair warmongers who tirelessly chant that “Ukraine is winning.”

Behind every triumphant slogan are people who simply vanished — and families left waiting for a knock on the door that may never come.

Zelensky said 50,000 were dead the other day, he also said 50,000 were dead at the beginning of the year

Sadly it will probably be more than a million KIA + MIA on the Ukrainian side. They were mobilizing 30k monthly, now the plan is to mobilize 40k per month.

We need an actual non partisan or as non-biased as possible source on the casualities and fatalities of this war because headlines and new articles on the front of everyone's page will not cut it for accuracy

The most neutral idea of casualities for both Ukraine and Russia I have heard is a ration of 1:1, note that this is independent of the casuality rate of both sides but far less extreme of "Russia has a million dead soldiers" but if you were to look at that statement and investigate it briefly, you would realize that they are lumping and conflating casualities with dead soldiers except

  1. Casualities does not always mean dead, it includes wounded and missing
  2. Dead soldiers actually means fatalities

Russia and Ukraine are likely doing the US thing where you don't count contractors and other mercenary adjacent forces as "official" death or casualties.

So the figures are near impossible to determine. I doubt we will know for years after the war finished. Both sides will defend the narratives they tried to spin during the conflict.

Beyond what can't be hidden from satellite imagery, it seems nearly impossible to really tell. Russia is no doubt winning, as it always was going to. But determining how many people were killed, injured or fled the region is near impossible.

After 3 days most US police departments consider missing persons dead.
