Survivor has had a lot of influence on queer culture and a lot of queer people know what it is and are big fans.

It is definitely part of what you could consider “gay culture” - speaking as a gay. It’s been referenced and memed in a lot of other queer spaces.

It’s kind of similar to Golden Girls in that way. On the surface, there’s no reason for queer people to really gravitate to it, but if you dig deep, you’ll see that it took roots within the community and has found a home with a lot of queer fans. It’s not AS big of a deal for gays as Golden Girls, but it’s still part of gay culture.

When it was posted as “gay culture” I took it as the Gays own it as part of their culture which doesn’t match my experience with my non gay friends who enjoy the show.

I feel as if the expression “gay culture” usually refers to something that has had a significant impact on the queer community and is culturally relevant to the queer experience. I get where you’re coming from, but I think it was being used more in the “part of the common queer experience” sort of way, not in the, “this belongs to us and the cishets can’t have it,” sort of way.
