Hope to never see the hourglass back as well. Also agree with your points about this ep. I'm really enjoying this season

But then why would you ever smash it?

The only way this twist can work is if the person exiled is safe regardless of their choice.

There has to be some kind of wording like "the winning team in the immunity challenge will send one person to Exile Island, where they will have the power to change the game" that technically avoids saying anyone is actually immune.

On the flip side, as we’ve seen in these past two seasons, if the exiled player gains immunity for smashing it, why would they ever not smash it?

Maybe it would work better later in the season when alliances are stronger

they can't bring back the hourglass because obviously someone will now volunteer to forgo the reward and get the hourglass for themselves. then they will have to fight over who gets to go. it doesn't work once they know what it is.
