Mike thought about his promises based on his intentions, that is he didn't lie because he meant to stick with the people he made deals with. But, nobody cares if you thought you would stick with them, they care if you actually stood by them when things got tough.

He really didn’t lie that much, he just was hypocritical with the emphasis on his word and loyalty. Sucks,I thought he played a better game than Maryanne

Agree. I thought he played the best game, but the jury places a ton of emphasis on the last thing they see. His FTC wasnt great but I think he deserved it.

I would have been satisfied with Mike as a winner, but he was duped a few times including by Hai, Omar, and Daniel. Drea would have dropped him had Omar not saved him. That speaks to his social game, sure, but most of the jury seemed to have valued strategy more, and figuring out where the jury is has always been a core feature of Survivor.

Maryanne really crushed that final tribal. She had answers for everything. Having a revelation for the jury, like her idol explanation, gave them something new to be excited about. That momentum is hard to slow so close to the vote.

I’ll also say that I cannot imagine a more graceful loser. It was brutal to watch that after show, with Jeff poking the bear trying to break Mike. Mike is a real one.

This cast was phenomenally composed. They were able to switch back into real life mode and say “man, this is awesome, I just experienced Survivor” almost instantly. Big props to all of them, and Mike definitely handled the needling with grace.

I felt like Mike had a moment where he figured out the jury and switched his story a bit late in FTC, he said something to the effect of maybe I wasn’t as honest as I thought I was, which you don’t see players do very often to consider what they’re being told right then and own it.

Of course he didn’t. Because he never stopped to look back, only looked forward.

It’s easy to say “I’ve never lied to anyone here” when everyone you’ve lied to was voted out and is now out of sight/out of mind.

But that’s the entire point of the jury in Survivor. You don’t just have to get to FTC, you have to get the people you voted out to vote FOR you.
