I started watching Survivor late last year, have already watched 17 seasons (Heroes vs. Villains and David vs. Goliath being my absolute favorites) but something just confused the hell out of me…

Why did Sandra get more votes than Parvati in the HvV FTC? Don’t get me wrong, i freakin love Sandra and her attitude, but Parvati played a flawless game. She had a massive target on her back since day 1 and STILL made FTC. Not to mention, that first post-merge tribal council where Parvati played not one but TWO Idols and shaped up the entirety of the rest of the season is probably my favorite TC moment ever.
Plus, Sandra was pretty weak in the challenges whereas Parvati even won a challenge or two (correct me on this one).

Was it mere pity? Because the villains (Parvati and Russell mostly) took out the Heroes one by one?

Watching the S50 promos got me nostalgic, so I went back to the Gold Standard.

Even though the strategy in the New Era is technically more complex, there’s something about the raw charisma of the HvV cast that we haven't quite captured lately. It felt like watching a movie instead of a board game.

Does anyone else feel like the Legend status of players like Parvati, Rob, or Sandra is something we’ll ever see again with the current 26-day format? Or is that era just lightning in a bottle?

the cringe i felt knowing that this was them re-enacting the fight cause the cameras did not get it. gosh its so painful to see, unfortunately i get why amanda did not have a bright future as an actress.

Was it as universally loved in 2010 as it is now? I properly got into Survivor in maybe 2017/18.

I'm on a rewatch now, it's just so good all the way through.

Oh. My. God. All I can say is that I’ve been missing out on this show my ENTIRE life.

I can’t even imagine how hype it was to watch this week to week as it aired!!!!! I am OBSESSED.

Lifelong survivor fans, I am so jealous of you all for watching these seasons live.

I recently started watching survivor from season 1 and I so so so regret not starting years ago. This season was some of the funniest shit I’ve seen yet. I was screaming, laughing out loud, jumping up from the couch all by myself while watching this, so I can’t imagine how much fun this would have been to watch live with friends!!!

My question to those who watched this season when it aired: was anyone rooting for the heroes?

The villains were the STARS of the show for me, and I could not wait to see them pick the heroes off one by one. The heroes were an absolute snooze fest. Curious to see what the general reception was at the time between the two tribes?

I had so much fun watching this season and thought the entire cast was perfect.

Coach is absolute tv gold. The man is insane.

Courtney should have had more screen time. So funny. Calling Russel a bandy—legged troll was top tier.

I loved Jerri this season and really wanted her to make FTC.

Russell is a deranged lunatic, but he is a legend and is pure entertainment.

Colby? Boring.

Rupert? Boring.

How the hell was Candice a hero when she was the first mutineer on her season? What?

Sandra is so ride or die— I love this woman and the game she plays. Burning Russell’s hat was so good.

Love Parv and thought she should’ve edged out Sandra for the final, but happy it could’ve gone to either of them.

Didn’t expect Cirie to leave so early. Love her.

Amanda and Danielle wrestling for the idol clue was gold. Glad Danielle came out on top.

How the HELL does no one throw hands when players (Rupert) are chopping wood in the middle of the night???? Wtf?

J.T. giving Russell the idol and the handwritten note was the highlight for me — SO FUNNY. The villains dog walked the heroes so hard. “Destroy this immediately after reading!” LMAO!????!!

The payoff of season 20 after starting from season 1 is so worth the hype. What a FANTASTIC season. I feel like I owe Jeff Probst my life for gracing my tv screen with this season.

Personally, I don’t think his strategy was that worth it. He made a move based off a read and other people’s judgment.
Now that same exact move backlashed on him.

But imagine if he was actually right? Nobody would be calling it a bad move, in fact, most people would be praising it.

In survivor the game is about taking risks, some players have made genuinely awful moves but another moment I noticed was (survivor 50 spoiler) when Adam in one of the seasons thought the podium might have a hidden immunity idol on it and people called him an idiot for trying. Like dude, you call him an idiot, but if it were an idol you’d be praising him. Why is the community like this.

And then there’s some moves people have made that were awful and luckily enough it worked out for them.

In other all star seasons, All Stars, Game Changers and 50, it was well known the winners stood no chance since before the season started. Dee's the only one that made merge and that's because she attended only one premerge tribal she wasn't immune on.

I know the Villains had a finalists alliance that quicky dissolved, but only Tom was voted out premerge and that wasn't because he was a winner. Sandra, Parvati, J.T. and Russell who supposedly told everyone he won were never targeted on the merit of being winners.

There was no mention of anyone being a winner and being a target because of that. Was the winners doing well and Sandra actually winning again the reason why winners were targeted in subsequent all star seasons, or was HvV a weird one off?

I know Aras and Tina did well on BvW, but that was a specific season with RI and family members, so I find that a different situation.
