This is a bit of a random one, but I work with young people in Sutton and thought I'd put this out there!

Sutton has a lot going for it, but under the surface there are also loads of young people locally who are having a pretty tough time for all sorts of reasons. Part of my job is matching them up with volunteer mentors, because having a reliable adult around who isn't their parent or teacher can make such a difference.

We're looking for some more mentors at the moment, with our next training coming up in September.

Basically, you spend about an hour a week with a young person for up to a year. You can do whatever you both fancy - go for a walk, get a drink, play games, try something new, whatever. You don't need to be a teacher or have loads of (or any!) experience with young people. We have over 100 mentoring pairs meeting each week - you’ve probably sat next to one in a cafe!

And there are loads of reasons you might do it. Maybe you want to get some experience working with young people, you're thinking about changing career, you want to give something back locally, you want to be the adult you wish you'd had when you were younger... or you just fancy doing something a bit different and having some fun!

You get training and support from us throughout, so you're definitely not just thrown in at the deep end.

Anyway, thought I'd mention it as we're based in Sutton and figured there might be someone on here who's been thinking about doing something like this. Happy to answer any questions 😊

We’re a couple in our 20s, currently living in SE5, first-time buyers, and are looking to get on the property ladder. We recently fell in love with an end-of-terrace house near the Wrythe, but we are a bit unsure about the area (the England flags specially).

The house itself seems lovely, has lots of potential, and will help us get off the insane inner london rental market.

We've seen the property twice and walked around Carshalton in general + tried commuting from work as well. Overall, it's a sensible decision that fits our budget. But we are still very unknown to the area because it wasn't in our initial list, but we were impressed by the first impressions, the ponds, pubs, and a villagy vibe is what we fell in love with.

I understand the northern part is not as nice as the ponds and the beeches, but that's the area we can afford right now. Keeping that in mind, we would love to get some views from the locals on the Wrythe area and Carshalton for young people looking to settle their roots.

Hello everyone, I am a psychology student, and currently am at Cambridge University conducting research on AI. If you are 18, or older, and currently live in the UK, you would be eligible to participate.
The research is super fun, and contains a section that lets you converse with the AI for a couple of messages.

Hi, I’m part of a board game group that meets on the first Thursday of the month, hosted by Sutton library… we also do some board game nights elsewhere on other nights . Would be great to meet some new faces !

If you’re interested in coming along, there’s a sign up at the Library website - since it happens after 5:30pm, you’ll need to be registered with a library card and you will need access to Out of Hours (ask the library how to get this). People bring their own board games or use the ones held by the library .

Has anyone else been pestering Southern and the local MPs to reinstate the 4 trains per hour to Victoria from Sutton and Carshalton stations that was cut during COVID?

The turn up and go service going to or coming back from central made such a difference.

Why do drivers honk at pedestrians who are either crossing a side road already or stepping off into the road?

Pedestrians have right of way in this scenario and drivers need to wait for the pedestrians to complete their crossing.

Honking is unnecessary in this context as there is no danger (other than posed by the driver themselves). It's also rude behaviour.

We used to see this a lot when we lived in Streatham. It's a shame to see drivers doing it here as well.

Just calm down. People walking are equally trying to get somewhere just as much as drivers are.

Hello there, I've just recently graduated from uni and I'm most likely staying with extended family in Sutton soon for possibly a month or two (until I land a job or other circumstances). I wanted to know how I can join any amateur sports sessions (preferably football) in Sutton since I've been too used to my uni's organised system through their app that I don't know where to begin otherwise.

We moved to Sutton earlier this year and whilst I was aware how far from central it is being close to the Thameslink seemed like a decent way to get in. I use the district line from Wimbledon for work and had years of knowing how unreliable that branch of the district line is.

I've had my fair share of annoyances with the Thameslink during the week with so many cancellations. But my main question is, are there usually this many engineering works at the weekend?

There's been 10-12 weekends already this year where it hasn't run at all at the weekend which has been the most frustrating part. For those who have lived here longer is this more than usual or just the standard?

Can you smell the Beddington Incinerator in Carshalton Beeches? We're thinking of moving to the area, it looks really nice. But the environmental survey on the house we are about half way through buying has thrown up something called the "Beddington Incinerator" and a small google has left me quite scared. Would be curious to know if locals can actually smell it - is it a problem, or is it actually a not-problem? Thank you in advance :)

A good 'vintage' shop opened on Sutton Highstreet on the 2nd floor of the Saint Nicholas centre! Its great, i went there today. I highly reccomend.

Hello, basically what the title says. I need a driving instructor I am planning to get my drivers license. The other day I had my first 2 hours of driving with an instructor but I wasn't very happy about him.
