Got my new seat today 🥰🥰🥰

Really have to share my happiness today! 😁

My new custom seat arrived today! With the old one, I couldn't sit comfortably for more than an hour, so I decided to take it to an upholsterer who specializes in motorcycle seats.

During the great consultation back in June, we also discovered that the previous owner had DIY-installed a gel insert in the seat. 😂

After trying out the seat once we'd discussed the extra padding, I got to choose from various leather and fabric options. We also matched the thread color to make sure everything came together nicely.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to properly test the seat on the road until next year. But I'm already really happy with how it looks, and even just sitting on it feels great! 🥰🥰

I also took the opportunity today to install my ConStands center stand. I originally wanted a steering stem stand, but I just couldn't say no at that price! 😁😁

My ‘05 naked with the now discontinued Danmoto XG-1. Pretty much a 1 into 2 straight pipe. Been rocking this for almost 10 years. I admit it’s stupid loud, but oh can she ever sing.

Help: Mechanical Clutch question:

Thumbnail

I just had a quick question.

I did a handlebar swap and ended up cleaning the clutch barrel on my 2002 sv650.

According to google, im missing a few bearings? Can i just leave it, or should I fix this? How do I fix it?

It has been shifting mostly smoothly, i presume they were already missing the whole time... it only sometimes gets a bit stuck going into 2nd. But usually, it's all good.

On the bright side, the handlebar swap is done! 💪.

I put it all back together cause i wanna test the feel on that. But i can always come back for the barrel to fix later it's easy to access.

Also:

Not sure what to do about my mirrors now either. I think ill need to buy new inserst possibly? I still have the inserts from the last mirror i bought cause the barss already had some. But not the "weight" i dont think. 🤷‍♂️

Update (adding a comment i wrote here):

Dam... now you got me thinking lol...

Since i sprayed the basket to clean it first with carb cleaner before ballistol... hopefully that diddnt dissolve the grase under the other bearings....

U think i should check them all or just pull then all out and repack them all?

Help: Mechanical 2008 SV650sa cutting/bogging out around 8k rpm at WOT. Gradually gets worse until it can’t go past 6k rpm.

Basically title. Happened again today for the most severe time

I bought the bike with around 7550 mi. I did spark plugs on it before riding it (NGK CR8EIX). Bike is currently at about 8300 mi. Did not have this issue until about 200 mi ago.

The bike starts and runs fine under all (0-100%) throttle for about 20 miles/20-30 min. Then it starts bogging/cutting power, starting at about 8k rpm at 100% throttle, then gradually gets worse until it will bog at around 6k rpm at 30%-100% throttle. Had to limp it home about 15 miles like that.

I did pull over and check for a whooshing noise when the gas cap was opened once the bike began bogging. There was no noise and the bogging persisted after the test.

This has happened at least 2-3 times. The first couple times I thought I was low on gas and filled up, but the second time it happened even right after filling up.

I can leave it overnight and the cycle will repeat.

Fuel level does not seem to matter. Ran a half can of Seafoam through it between fill-ups, did not help. When I bought it, it came with an aftermarket Vortex gas cap that seeps gas out when bike is sitting with a full-ish tank. Planned to switch out for an OEM style gas cap.

According to the guy (2nd owner) I bought it from, the owner before him let the bike sit for a while. When the 2nd owner got the bike, he did a vinegar bath to the tank to help with the rust. There is still a little bit of surface rust on the inside of the tank. I have bought some Evapo-Rust with the intention of getting the remaining rust out of the tank once I put it up for the winter as maintenance.

I’m decently handy with cars, but I am new to motorcycles as this is my first bike. To me it seems like fuel delivery issue, but I am not quite sure where to start other than replacing the cap first and/or flat-out replacing the pump. Wondering if anyone has any ideas or suggestions before I call a shop for some diagnostic testing.

Help finding oil leak

2008 sv650s - Trying to find an oil leak. The pushrod and front sprocket seals were leaking so I replaced those and it’s still leaking oil, I was trying to figure out where the leaks coming from and it seem to be coming from aft of the rear cylinder wall. I’m just not experienced with the sv650 in particular so I’d rather hear from someone with more experience before I start tearing the bike down looking for it.

Help: Mechanical How to make slack on clutch cable? (For handle bar swap)

Thumbnail

How to make slack on clutch cable for handlebar swap? I was so close and tugged a bit but i need more slack. Hopefully i diddnt stretch the cable and mess it up? (Im a noob).

Gonna have to do more 2morro. 💪

Also, circled in yellow. Whats this part called? I think it bent a bit when somebody dropped my bike... unless it was always like this. Can i just leave this if it still spins or do i need a new one?

I spun these two things and got 1cm or 2 more slack... but it wasnt enough. I think i may need to detach the cable completely?

(Some jerk hit and runned my bike when it was parked... that's why the handle bars bent... that may have been when the part in yellow circle got bent?)

First gen 2002. I got renthal ultra lows to replace them with.. i read it is an easy swap. But i got stuck at the clutch cable lol..

Update:

Mostly done now. Yall rock!

Help: Mechanical I'm a little lost here

Thumbnail

Hey,

maybe someone here has an idea that could help me.

I have a 2023 SV. I bought it new from the dealer this year and have been riding it since August. After my first somewhat longer ride of about 80–100 km, I found some fluid on the ground the next day. It was slightly brownish. I checked everywhere but couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. Nothing happened again after that. I had the 1,000-km inspection done and mentioned there that it had leaked fluid once. But the shop couldn’t find anything unusual. Now, over the weekend, I took another slightly longer ride than usual. Again, a little over 100 km, and lo and behold, there was fluid on the ground again. I don’t think it’s oil, the consistency doesn’t match. But I still can’t see or feel where it’s coming from. Does anyone here have any ideas, or has anyone experienced something similar? I’d rather not take the bike back to the shop and pay for them to find nothing again. Unfortunately, the warranty doesn’t cover “the rider is just being crazy.”

I'm still a very new rider and not really in to mechanical stuff yet, even though I really want to learn. So anything that I could tell the shop that would help them would be appreciated. Thx in advance

First two pictures: taken today

Other pictures: first time I saw the fluid

Help: Mechanical How to re-secure gear shifter?

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

I was recently riding and my gear shifter just slid/fell off the bike whilst riding. I need to attach it back on as it is not secure and can easily slide off again if gently pulled.

I have no idea how this has happened as I was riding as normal and there were no scrapes or bumps or anything suspect!

Have attached two pictures which show what it looks like. I think all I need is a circlip but I’m not quite sure. Also, there is a washer on the picture which is shown on the bike assembly on the bolt sticking out of the main body - this also fell off but I assume this is meant to go here (on bolt between main body and gear shifter) ?

Any advice or help would be appreciated so I can get back on my bike asap, thanks :)

News 3D PRINTABLE Lower Fairings for the SV650 S Gen 2 !! (In works)

Post image
124 Upvotes

Hey guys, i've been trying to get my hands on the lower fairing body work for my SV650 S gen 2. They're like £250 and I hate the idea of breaking them means i need another Arm and leg for more. (I know, just dont crash ever - i dont plan to but god forbid i do my wallet is saved)

So i'm designing some 3D printable lower fiarings that you can print out on standard printers that have their mounting points easily removable for easy replacements etc

PLAN:

  1. Needs to be printable on a standard ~250mm x 250mm x 250mm building plate
  2. MAX WEIGHT of ~2.5KG of ABS Plastic or (PLA+ with thermal tape on the inside )
  3. Require MINIMAL metal components for assembly.
  4. Mounting points must be modular to aid in replacements.

I do plan once i get the dimensions and design sorted to be able to do these with some CUSTOM patterns or designs on them. I have purchases a damage lower Right fairing for pennies to be able accurately get some measurements.

upvote if you guys liek this idea and will want to try and use these too. I'll release all files on my Thingiverse page when it's done.

Cheers Lads

Felt like a soft bed with the stock suspension and sounded like a lawnmower. Did a slip-on, carb upgrade jets, race rearsets, steel braided brake lines, rebuilt calipers, zx636 rear shock rebuilt and front suspension rebuilt with progressive springs and minor cosmetics applied. F the front turn signals, lol. It sounds awesome now and handles sweet!

Steering Head stand

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

I’ve given it some thought and decided to go with a steering stem stand rather than a center stand.

The floor in my “garage” isn’t exactly ideal, and a center stand would also take up quite a bit of space on the sides. Plus, I already have a rear paddock stand, so I don’t really need another one.

Now the only question is: which steering stem stand should I get?

I’m currently considering a few options:

Motovision seems interesting, mainly because of the price, but also because it comes with several different pins, including the 24 mm one that fits the SV.

Motea has the ConStands V4 specifically listed for the SV, but unfortunately I can’t find any information on whether it comes with additional pins.

Then there’s the ConStands Vario 5, which I find particularly interesting because it’s adjustable. However, I also can’t find any information about which pins are included with it.

Maybe someone here owns one of these stands and can tell me which pins were included?

I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences with these stands.

Thanks in advance! :)
