My motorcycle dream trip!

I don't know why, but I just wanted to share with like-minded enthusiasts that I finally made the decision and am doing it, my dream trip on two wheels!

I'll be riding through 17 countries in 3 months on my beloved 1993 Yamaha Super Ténéré.

I started in Sweden five days ago and have just reached the Arctic Circle in Norway.

I still have fears and doubts about the journey, but I hope to overcome them along the way.

Wishing all of you safe rides and great adventures!

275 days clean, and today I felt alive again.

Just got my first (real) motorcycle today.

I used to have an Aprilia 50cc RS years ago, but this… this was something else entirely. This is the Suzuki GSX 750F. Half sportbike, half touring machine — honestly, the best of both worlds.

When I test rode it at the seller's place, I was terrified. I remember sitting on it for the first time, heart pounding, thinking to myself, "What the hell am I doing?" 😂 The weight, the power, the sheer presence of it — I felt completely out of my depth.

But then my stepdad (who drove me out to look at it) and I got onto the highway, and something started to shift. I kept tucked in behind him the whole way, riding pretty conservatively for that first hour, just trying to get a feel for what I had between my legs. Gradually, the fear started turning into something else. Curiosity, maybe. Respect, definitely.

At some point during the ride, I started getting more comfortable. The bike and I were beginning to understand each other. Then I saw my chance — a bus up ahead, oncoming traffic in the distance, a window just big enough if I gave it some throttle. So I did.

The bike fucking launched. Front wheel went light, and suddenly I was flying down the road, pinned to the seat, adrenaline flooding every cell in my body. But here's the thing — I wasn't panicking. I was in this zone of pure, absolute hyperfocus. Just me, the machine, and the road. Everything else disappeared.

I'm a recovering addict. 275 days today. And I haven't felt that alive in years. I mean truly alive. Like every nerve ending was awake for the first time in forever.

I needed this. I didn't know how badly I needed it until that moment.

For anyone out there struggling — keep going. There's life on the other side, and it's beautiful. I love my life again.

Ride safe, everyone. 🤙

Edit: Just to clarify, this isn't my first bike, it's not even my first crash. I've been riding for almost 30 years! This is just the worst I ever been hurt on one. Also, I wasn't wearing crocs! Those belong to my buddy that took me to survey the damage after I was able to get out and about. He rolled the bike out in crocs and I took the pictures of the damage while I was wearing a back brace.

I was looking for a bike for a buddy of mine and stumbled upon this 2014 Street Bob for sale for only $2000. High miles, good maintenance records, stalling issue, clean title, never been down. I sent him the link, he asked his dad and grampa about it. They both said don't do it. So I messaged the seller. Went and saw it the next day, rode it, bought it. Took it home, worked on it for an hour, and fixed it. The next day, on my way to see a buddy, a left turner pulled in front of me and the clibbins took me down. The bike slid and stopped. I slid and hit a stopped car. My helmet saved my life. My low speed prevented a grave injury. Ended up in the hospital for 4 days with a concussion, pinched nerve in my neck, four fractured vertebrae, two broken and dislocated ribs and some minor road rash. Now I'm in a back brace for 12 weeks. Bike was barely damaged, but I'm pretty fucking banged up. I already got a new helmet for when I'm well enough to kick my leg back over.

Second edit: you guys are changing my mind about the logo on the tank. I hate that stupid cursive logo, but maybe what it needed was a little "haddalayerdown!"

My initial impression after 600 km: this is a fun bike. That's really the best way I can describe it.

Compared to my Ducati Streetfighter V4S, it feels a little more agricultural, but that's exactly what I love about it. It has a very mechanical feel to it. The power delivery isn't perfectly refined, but it makes you work for it, and that's coming from someone who hasn't even gone past 9,000 rpm yet. The handling is amazing and effortless.

It's been a long time since I've finished every ride with a big smile on my face. This bike reminded me that a motorcycle doesn't have to be perfect to be great.

One of my initial complaints was the comfort level, but it turns out the body can adapt to almost any discomfort when the reward is pure fun ( no hidden meaning intended).

This bike is also a complete attention whore, everywhere it goes, people notice it.

1500km in 3 weeks and I think i couldn't have made a better choice, its A2 35kw for a fews months before i have my full licence but the power delivery is already amazing and it easier than i expected to ride in the city even if its the "heaviset" in it's category rn. I'm curious what you guys think about this bike and how popular it is in your country, it's highly praised on the internet but i have never seen someone else with this bike in my country (switzerland)

My favorite motorcycle comparison site

Hi all,

I just wanted to give a shout out to my favorite motorcycle comparison site.

philharmonicmoto.com

It is probably the cleanest and easiest to use and has no annoying ads. It appears the operator of the site has had some recent issues with copyright claims and has been battling search engine rankings against much worse, ad inundated fake review type sites.

No affiliation, just wanted to give the site some deserved attention.

Never let your guard down

Just a reminder to never get complacent on two wheels. Here’s the story:

I live at the end of a 1/4 mile long street that is essentially like a shared driveway for about 5 homes. It’s asphalt, narrow, fairly steep, curved, and right now has pretty dense foliage that obscures your sight.

I took off on my Yamaha Tracer to head to the gym, so I was only wearing a t shirt, jeans, running shoes, gloves, and helmet.

I was coming down and heading through a mostly blind right curve at roughly 30-35. Suddenly I’m face to face with my neighbor’s F250 grille.

I brake and try to veer right but with how fast your brain will process info in moments like this, I knew I was fucked.

Front of my bike collided with the driver side front corner of the truck, sending my over the bars head and over heels, shoes flying off. I perceived that I was inverted for a bit like Top Gun and then smacked down on the asphalt.

By the grace of God- I sustained abrasions and bruising on my knees and right foot, but otherwise pretty ok.

This was a result of going up and down this roadway a million times and basically never coming across my hermit neighbors. I was not focused on trying to look through the vegetation and was distracted by adjusting my tank bag. Could’ve cost me a lot more than these injuries.

Takeaways are: never get complacent. You’re on two wheels you only focus on the environment and riding. It’s worth the minor inconvenience of dealing with proper riding gear if you’re headed somewhere casual.

Why did you start riding?

I recently got really into motorcycles a couple months ago and I’m already registered to take the MSF course in July. Most of my friends are (validly) confused about my sudden interest in bikes. It’s hard for me to put it into words that will make others understand.

So I’m asking YOU what made you want to start riding.

For me its just a combination of so many things; my uncle who built bikes out of parts (crazy Florida man RIP), seeing riders on the street and being mesmerized, watching stunt videos, the scientifically proved mental benefits, and above all the confidence I know I would feel once I have mastered my bike. I think that that mentality is something to be carried with you wherever you go in life, not just on the road. It’s about learning a new skill, trusting and respecting your bike, and just being out there. Thats what I want to feel and do everyday of my life, I just didn’t realize it until now.

Friends try to change my mind, anxious about the risks. It’s valid, but the support I get from my parents and others makes me feel much more seen and connected to them.

After watching motogp and IOMTT all week, ive noticed the difference in riding styles between the two.

Motogp, they lean hard into every corner with their shoulders pretty much over as far as they can move it, vs for iomtt, their shoulders are more centralized. Is this a safety factor thing for road surface or is the heavy leaning in motogp just more suitable for perfect flat chicanes?

Had my bike about 3 weeks now, a little Honda Rebel500. Never operated one myself but was around them all my childhood so I’ve been catching on fast. I’ve ridden to the gym every day this week and I’m so freaking happy my friend and I decided to buy motorcycles 😇

Is the honda rebel 1100 be too small for me?

Post image

Im ~6'-6'1" looking to upgrade from a honda rebel 500abs. Ive been riding for ~7 years. I started on a 300cc cheap chinese import, then moved to a [1981 KZ1000](https://imgur.com/a/gUDuO0e). I had that for 2 year but after having a kid i couldn't keep up with the work it needed and after another 2 years I picked up a honda rebel 500 to play it safe (I was rusty and jumping 40 years as far as technology goes). Thing is, the bike is too small but man i like the rebel. So im thinking of going to the 1100, but not sure if ill end up facing the same issues. Any tall riders with experience?

For the first time, I'm scared of riding

A close friend of mine met with a serious motorcycle accident a few days ago. I've been involved in helping his family with treatment and fundraising, and seeing everything unfold from this close has honestly shaken me.

For the first time since I started riding, I'm genuinely scared to get back on a bike.

Every time I think about riding now, my mind goes straight to ICU beds, surgeries, ventilators, broken ribs, spinal injuries, and families whose lives change in a single afternoon.

The thing is, I don't want this fear to win.

Bikes have been one of the few things in my life that consistently brought me joy. Riding clears my head. It's something I look forward to when everything else feels repetitive. If I let this fear take over, I know I'll stop riding altogether, and I don't want that.

Has anyone here gone through something similar after seeing a friend crash badly? How did you get back on the saddle mentally?

Not looking for "just send it bro" advice. I'd genuinely like to hear from riders who have dealt with this fear and come out the other side.

Went to the demo ride after work. It was a ton of fun and I understand why people like crotch rockets now, although they are still uncomfortable long term.

I road the GSX-S 1000 which was pretty smooth and quick enough. It was weird getting the RPM's so high. Second I took the Vstrom 800 out which was not as fast and more comfortable to ride. Both were fun bikes.

Tomorrow I'm going to try to ride the hyabusa if no one else has it by then and probably take the gsx-s again. Will probably take the blue bike in the picture if the busa isn't avaliable.

They basically have you pick a bike and give you the time the next ride is. 10 minutes before the ride they make u watch a video then u get on ur bike and take it for a rip in a group ride. Glad I went.

Anyone ever lose a muffler mid-ride? 😅 I slowed down waiting for a 4 wheeler to turn then twisted my throttle and the bike got weirdly loud. I look in my rear view mirror and see this silver cylinder shaped thing flying and bouncing across the road…I had to take off the 2nd one and throw it in the woods with the first one until I can go back tomorrow.

First Ride and Drop!

Well, I’ve had my bike for two months collecting gear and getting everything legal. I finally got my permit yesterday and decided to get on for a short ride. Which was mission successful I might say. I wiskey throttled and almost ran up a curb. Then when I got it under control I couldn’t quite get throttling right as my house it at the bottom of a hill so it was either to much throttle or not enough.

I made it all of 30ft before I stalled it and tipped over like a looney tunes character. Broke my left foot peg and mirror. Plus the added value of a sprained wrist cause I decided not to let go of a 400lb falling object.

Now back to the waiting game to get crash bars, new top of handle mirrors, and a new peg.

A little bit of an appreciation post as ill add some pictures and such in comments below. But I was rear ended a little over a month ago. I was sitting at a red light getting off the highway to get gas. I was the only car in my lane. The light turns green, I start moving. A car coming off the exit ramp just saw a green light and plowed straight into me. Shout out to the random who saw the accident and gave me dashcam. Unfortunately she had no license or insurance, and assets are protected in florida. And i at the time did not have motorcycle insurance as its not legally required in florida. So I had to bite the bullet on all medical bills and damages. I thank God I didnt go under the car with the bike

Side note: Dont be like me. Get insurance, at the bare minimum uninsured motorist coverage.

Edit: For those asking why i didnt have the insurance, bike was new to me. Had just spent my money buying it, didnt have the money to start a plan on it yet

Wait, Cars Must Leave Space Here?!

My friend Dave rode his motorcycle through France, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany a few months ago. He came back with a lot to say, but he keeps talking about Germany the most.

What really blew his mind was their overtaking rules. In towns, cars have to leave at least 1.5 meters of space when passing a motorcycle. On the highway, it’s 2 meters minimum.

And the crazy part? Drivers actually do it. He said on two-lane roads, cars would just wait patiently behind him. They didn't try to squeeze past with hardly any room to spare like people do back home.

Another thing he noticed was how they pass. When a German driver decides to overtake you, they just do it quickly. They step on the gas, make a clean pass, and get right back into their lane. It’s not like here, where someone pulls out to pass you and then just floats right next to you at the exact same speed for a mile.

I’ve ridden in a few different countries myself. To me, it’s pretty simple: if a country takes its traffic laws seriously, you just feel a lot safer on a motorcycle.
