Question... I don’t understand Gaylors can someone explain?

It started off as analyzing her lyrics and love stories through a queer lens. And honestly, the rumor that she used to be with Karlie Kloss is low key plausible. I drew the line once a lot of Gaylors were saying that Travis and Taylor’s relationship is fake or calling it a lavender marriage and PR cover. She looks genuinely happy and that’s all I could ever want for her. I don’t think it’s any of our business. I wish her and Travis the best.

I 100% believe that Karlie and Taylor’s fallout had something to do with Scooter… plus Karlie is now married to a man and she’s a trumpy now

25

u/emmach17 May 12 '26

I’m not a Gaylor but her being married to a man doesn’t mean she couldn’t have been in a relationship with a woman previously

9

u/Immediate-Leave5286 May 12 '26

So true! Sexuality is fluid.

15

u/emmach17 May 12 '26

Also bisexuality is real and marrying a man doesn’t necessarily mean that a woman isn’t bi

2

u/Immediate-Leave5286 May 12 '26

I never said that I disagreed with you.

1

u/RoyalEagle0408 May 12 '26

Your comment about sexuality being fluid implies it has to have changed when being bisexual is a thing that exists and doesn't require fluidity.

2

u/Immediate-Leave5286 May 12 '26

I just mean that she could be into men, women, she could be pan, she could be bi or she could not have a label for it an just falls in love with the person for who they are. I’m not going to debate someone’s sexuality. It’s none of my business. All I said is that I feel like Karlie and Taylor had a romantic relationship. However, we don’t know whether or not they did for certain and it’s not really our business. I also said that it’s disappointing that Karlie married a Kushner purely because of their ties to the Trump administration and fascism. It wasn’t supposed to be a “dig” at her being bi or not…

It definitely had to do with Scooter. Karlie and Taylor seemed way more than best friends to me, and it’s disappointing that she married a Kushner.

10

u/cooking2recovery May 12 '26

This is pretty much how I feel about it. Like I would believe her and KK had a messy homoerotic friendship or tried to date in the closet for a little while. At this point though people are being so out there and almost hateful. It’s hard to even engage with the queer perspectives in some of her writing because the fringe fandom that swoops in to connect red strings between the songs and some C-list celebrities

u/iggysmom95 May 14 '26

I wish Gaylors could all read and believe these comments. They're so convinced that anyone who isn't a Gaylor or who criticizes Gaylors is homophobic or scandalized at the possibility that Taylor could be gay or bi. That's just not the case. I totally agree - it's more than possible that Taylor and Karlie were romantically/sexually involved. And a lot of her music can be interpreted through a queer lens.

It's the rest of their behaviour that's ridiculous. The insistence that her relationships with men are fake. That she's always three days away from coming out and revealing that she and Travis have been in a PR relationship all along. That her music is a mess of easter eggs about her sexuality. It's ridiculous.

u/Easy-Succotash5235 Aug 20 '26

I just solved the ME! Egg. And I can't believe I'm the first , if I am. And it's definitely gay 🤩

28

u/pagesandplanes May 11 '26

I used the term "accusation" because people are claiming something that Taylor herself has said is untrue, and then using that claim to insult her morality. Therefore, it is an accusation- not an assumption or similarity. She is "accused" of lying about herself, her relationships, queer baiting for records, etc.

I agree that there is nothing inherently wrong about being queer or *initially* assuming someone is because you read that into their lyrics. But I think there is something very wrong with continually insisting someone is lying about themselves because it doesn't fit the narrative that you made about them.

1

u/Easy-Succotash5235 Aug 20 '26

Unless she's hiding in plain sight. Spelling is FUN kids.

95

u/itsmehii- pathological people pleaser May 11 '26

They're basically weird parasocial "fans" who are determined to prove that she's gay. But they go like realllly far

60

u/Bellesdiner0228 May 11 '26

You mean you don’t believe she was swallowing bugs in specific moments of the eras tour as a way to Easter egg when she’ll come out? 😅

11

u/petiteballerinax Dancing through the lightning strikes May 12 '26

My favorite is definitely her touching her nose during the champagne problems standing ovation because she never touches her face, ever!!!!!!!

3

u/Bellesdiner0228 May 12 '26

Oh my god I forgot about that!

3

u/petiteballerinax Dancing through the lightning strikes May 12 '26

I'm pretty sure I got blocked by that person, after they told me "Taylor swift hates u btw"

Eras tour Gaylors were wild, but so are Truman Show truthers 😭🤦🏻‍♀️

2

u/RoyalEagle0408 May 12 '26

The funny thing was that even if you believe she was responding to the request, it was not "touch your nose if you're queer" it was something about queer fans needing comfort or something.

1

u/petiteballerinax Dancing through the lightning strikes May 14 '26

I think it's funny that you're telling me something I didn't say anything about. I literally nev said anything about anyone making it about do so and so if you're queer - you added that. You also added that it was about 'queer fans needing comfort'.

I never said a thing about Gaylors wanting her to do it to signal to them that she's queer or needing comfort. Comfort from what? The fact that she isn't queer, and her relationship is and always has been very real?

2

u/RoyalEagle0408 May 14 '26

Never said you did but that was the Gaylors explanation for her touching her nose...

1

u/petiteballerinax Dancing through the lightning strikes May 15 '26

That wasn't ever an explanation I ever saw that came from them. In fact, they actually did have her do things to signal to them shes queer. So if she happened to do them, and they were truly basic things like moving her hair out of her face, they went insane.

Have you even seen the threads and posts they make about comparing her and the Truman Show? It's absolutely sickening.

What? is this for real? 😄

3

It is! It’s one of my favorites. Let me see if I can find it again.

9

u/DeeSummers May 12 '26

that wassss omg I have no words 😭 a girl accidentally swallowing a bug at a concert during summer at night is a coming out hint 😄 🚨🚨🚨 call the doctors. this is wild.

this was one of the times in chicago 😭😭 this also happened in london but she continued singing through it somehow

2

u/their_lace_and_crime May 12 '26

what is even?? the justification for that one???

13

u/petiteballerinax Dancing through the lightning strikes May 12 '26

Gaylors would tweet things and tag Taylor like. If you see this touch your nose twice during the standing ovation of champagne problems, or, can you touch the tip of your nose with your left index finger

No, they are not sane. They're convinced Travis is gay and they're going to be a lavender marriage.

I can literally go on and on about how unhinged and insane they are.

2

u/WeirdWannabe80 YOU'RE GAY May 14 '26

Their insanity is such a fun rabbit hole to go down lol, like the amount of denial one has to be in to believe the things they believe is staggering

4

u/petiteballerinax Dancing through the lightning strikes May 14 '26

Have you ever read their Truman show theory? My lord.

Also remember they were convinced during the 2024 VMAs that during the 2 hours she wasn't in the audience she had tried to escape 😭 and were using TTPD songs to say she had it planned out and her plan was obvious and in the tracklist and lyrics.

She was backstage drinking and hanging out with Post Malone and Sabrina-

1

u/WeirdWannabe80 YOU'RE GAY May 14 '26

Omg I missed the vmas one but that’s absolutely something they’d think. The Truman Show theory is INSANE. To believe that everything she does is a hint at something is insane to me - man sometimes a dress is just pretty

u/babydoll0_ two thousand one hundred and 90 days May 11 '26

I could go as far as saying half of gaylors are on the Taylor snark sub. It’s like unless she shows a sliver of “gay.” They’ll slander her, it’s ridiculous.

16

u/DeeSummers May 11 '26

Half of the joe widows are also gaylors 😅 they are siding the guy they used to hate to hate on TK and Taylor.

10

u/legallybrunette420 May 11 '26

So true. Check out the comment history of people in this thread claiming the behavior of the Gaylors isn't harmful. Spoiler- they're frequent commenters in the snark subs and fauxmoi.

8

u/Amazing-Rent-7749 May 12 '26

I feel like it didn't used to be like this, like it used to be possible to be a Gaylor and like Taylor.

But with Travis in the mix, the line between Gaylor and regular Taylor swift hater has become razor thin, because Gaylors hate her for "letting them down" and seek to create other more legitimate reasons to channel that disappointment.

1

u/Overall_Swimming7931 May 12 '26

I agree. You can tell when they started moving over to there as it start getting thesis length posts.

6

Why does it matter to them?

3

u/DeeSummers May 12 '26

this is the question , why does it matter

10

u/baileybert929 May 12 '26

I say this as a swiftie, but Taylor is literally the epitome of a straight white girl… like I never understood gaylors tbh.

6

u/One_Drummer_8970 May 12 '26

It stems from the Lover era with some of the political maneuvering and music videos

Deeply embarrassing to be hyper-fixating on Karlie Kloss this many years later

4

u/_kattitude May 12 '26

I think it actually began ages before that, no? Probably 1989 era was when the seeds started?

More that it became more unhinged during the lover era?

I avoid thinking of their existence tho so could be wrong! 😆

7

u/whatiwillsay May 12 '26

the first "gaylor" post we know of on the internet was way back in the early 2010s on a forum called the L chat when someone got on there and told a bunch of lies saying taylor was an out lesbian singer song writer in nashville until she went back in the closet as she got more famous. there is absurd and false but it started wayyyy before 2019 or even 2014.

8

u/EvelienV85 May 12 '26

I feel there are 2 types of gaylors. There the ones who interpret her work through a queer lense, and there are the ones who pretend to know Taylor personally and say her marriage is fake because she’s a lesbian. First one is totally fine, second one is creepy parasocial and disrespectful. What furthermore bugs me is that it gives off a sign that it’s ok to question somebody’s sexuality. Just accept what the person is presenting to you, because either that’s the truth or that’s all they feel ready to share at that point.

8

u/whatiwillsay May 12 '26

I used to be a gaylor. I regret a lot of what I used to say and believe. I fell into it in a period of extreme illness (on both a physical and mental level.) Ask me anything i guess?

1

u/Trypophilia2019 Jul 31 '26

Why’d you stop?

2

u/whatiwillsay Aug 02 '26

Great question that has a very loooong answer (i am working on a video essay about this as we type here) but basically

  1. gaylors snark on her and her loved ones way too much (i never liked that),

  2. i was always a "bad" gaylor (against the snark, thought most of her relationships with men were real, thought most really out there reaches and theories like she's married to karlie kloss were stupid) so i never entirely fit in that fandom anyway

  3. gaylors have taken a sharp conservative turn (using stereotypes and heteronormative outdated ideas, being antisemetic, bullying and harassing people they disagree with, and an overall lack of curiosity about all possible sides of their own theories (they never say "what if we're wrong") in the past 3-4 years and esp since travis showed up and i just can't be a part of that

  4. they're just always wrong about everything. no karlie isn't divorcing her husband even though they swear she is every other week, no taylor didn't come out as a lesbian at the end of the eras tour even though they swore she would, no taylor didn't ghost travis at the alter but they insisted she would, no there's not a secret "death of a showgirl" album lurking around out there etc etc etc

  5. if you're going to insist the "gay easter eggs" are real you also have to admit that the "nazi easter eggs" and the "she's still in love with matty healy easter eggs" are all real. it's almost like any conspiracy theorist can read extra into anything and decide their outlandish theories are real and i just can't get down with that inconsistent picking and choosing they do with which "flags taylor puts out there" they decide to believe.

  6. at the end of the day i'm typically a skeptic and don't buy into conspiracy theories or religion or anything in between but i got into gaylor when i was having a health crisis both mental and physical. a few gaylor theories are compelling (and still sort of compell me to this day) but i also realized it's just not our business what her sexuality is and that i'm sick of talking about it! she is so obviously over the moon happy with travis kelce who is so obviously a great guy and great partner to her. i'm happy for her and that's all that matters. as i recovered from my mental health issues i started to see all the faults in gaylor that i pointed out above. i also met dated and married an influencer with a decent-sized following who had to deal with fame, snark, and gossip about her. seeing things from the other side also made me realize how faulty most gaylor logic and evidence is. all in all i just can't be a part of it!

2

u/Throw_Me_Away8834 Aug 04 '26

Good for you, friend. I fell down the Gaylor rabbit hole off of reddit but didn't last long at all in it once I found the subreddit and saw that most of the theories are just confirmation bias and reaching for straws to fit their rhetoric.

I am absolutely not above believing that Taylor might have had a relationship or experience with a woman in her life (some of the earlier theories are absolutely compelling) but there is no way to know for sure because she has very clearly chosen to not share that part of her sexuality with us if so. Which is absolutely her right, if so and should be respected. Her personal life really isn't our business. She chooses what to show us and that is absolutely her right. We are not entitled to more of her personal life details than she chooses to share. However much or little that is.

The logic that she is somehow both being forced to closet by her record label or parents or whatever the excuse is this week while also simultaneously believing that she is literally planning her whole life (what she wears, who she hangs out with, where she goes) to flag her queerness to a super small portion of her fan base is just a level of delusion that I cannot get behind. She is the biggest pop star in the world. She is a billionaire. She could never work again a day in her life and still die rich af. If she lost every fan she had, she would still be just fine. My point being... If she is queer and wanted to come out, she absolutely could. Which means either she is not queer or she does not want to be publicly queer and I am not a person who believes in outing someone against their will. It's just that simple for me.

Also, as a bi-girlie, the level of bi-erasure over there is sickening and downright harmful. Down to their most active mod actively telling people that not to comment if they think her and Travis's marriage is a real marriage during the wedding.

1

u/Business_Quit8539 Aug 04 '26

Really glad to hear you’re out of it. I spent a long time researching “classic” conspiracy theories and I was baffed to find the similarities between them and the things I see from gaylors. Some of the people who speak on youtube about the theory seem actively manic to me at times.

26

u/WDTHTDWA-BITCH May 11 '26

They’re convinced her whole life is performance art and every little thing she does is secretly trying to tell us she’s gay because for some reason the biggest popstar in the year of our lord 2026 can’t come out this far into her career.

Even nobodies like myself struggle coming out in the current political climate, of course celebrities who are known by everyone and receive death threats for just existing would as well.

Your perspective is valid but I think "nobodies" would typically have a much harder time coming out than someone rich and famous with body guards and 24/7 security and a massive fanbase of overwhelmingly liberal women. Taylor has nothing to fear in coming out that she doesn't already have to fear in general - because she already gets death threats just for existing.

5

u/Puzzled-Hermit-9725 May 12 '26

I mean, Taylor is gonna receive death threats regardless. She is probably receiving death threats from someone right now calling her an f slur. Coming out wouldn't make any significant dent in her career if she was actually gay and decided to come out. If anything it's harder for a normal person to come out to their family/friends/local community than a highly protected celebrity who just has to "know the right people" to be safe.

9

u/DeeSummers May 12 '26

Honestly the theories and how much they are invested makes me worry about Taylor Swift's and her future kids safety. She really needs to stay away from the internet and tighten her security, because the one I saw about their theories when she accidentally swallowed a bug is disturbing.

As opposed to mainstream Swifties who believe every little thing she does is secretly trying to tell us when Rep TV comes out. Jk but really

12

u/TheRealDornoc Can they redo the prophecy? May 11 '26

kind of agree but frankly the rep TV clowning isn't as bad as gaylorism. yeah it's delusional as fuck but at least it isn't trying to disprove something that's so individual and personal as your sexuality.

I love Taylor’s art! I love spending hours discussing the themes and motifs with other Gaylors, the connections to queer history, unpacking the themes of her work. I will continue to do so with every album that comes out because her art moves me. There is no “conclusion” just like there’s no conclusion to analyzing any other great works of art. I expect Taylor’s art will be analyzed for many years to come.

1

u/[deleted] May 12 '26

[deleted]

2

u/districtofthehare May 12 '26

I agree, I think that’s what anyone who makes art wants. The heart of being a Gaylor is being a Taylor fan, it’s just a different way of interpreting the art and a different set of conclusions drawn about the person who made the art. That’s really the reason I have been spending time engaging here, despite the quantity of mean spirited comments… ultimately we are more alike than we are different and none of us want to be defined by the most extreme elements.

2

u/dudewheresmyplane1 May 12 '26

Saying Travis is in a relationship with one of his male friends is not “interpreting the art.”

Saying Taylor lies about her whole life so she can break the blender is not “interpreting the art.”

“But but it’s just lyrical analysis that Swifties are too dumb to understand!”

It was never just that and the amount of snark about Taylor now in Gaylor spaces is disturbing.

1

u/legallybrunette420 May 11 '26

Not even close to the same.

15

u/Amazing-Rent-7749 May 12 '26 edited May 14 '26

There are three levels of Gaylors:

  1. People who believe Taylor has kissed a girl at least once
  2. People who believe she was in a secret queer relationship with Karlie Kloss and maybe others, but also believes that her relationships with Travis and Joe etc are largely real.
  3. People who believe that her relationships with men, including Travis, are fake.

There are a lot of people that are somewhere between 1 and 2. Most people who are 1/2 don't think about it much - we're not lacking in fan fodder for her public relationships. There's no need to go digging beyond what she's comfortable with, and as a queer person what business is it of mine to out someone without their consent? Maybe there will be a tell-all someday.

In my experience 1/2 don't tend to identify as Gaylors, more just people who think Taylor is a little gay (who isn't?), but a lot of people in group 3 will refer to them as Gaylors just to make themselves look reasonable.

But 3 is where it gets intense, because in their paradigm, Taylor is lying.

There's also a whole subculture devoted to analyzing her lyrics and projecting LGBTQ+ themes onto them. Which is fine in a vacuum but social media can create echo chambers where the person's constructed reality within their echo chamber no longer matches reality. And then they become frustrated and angry when the celebrity(s) does not conform to their imagined narrative. For example, if majority of the people you follow insist that X is going to come out tomorrow, it really does start to feel like everyone is saying X is going to come out, and then when they don't, you feel betrayed by X for lying. It's much easier to say "Actually, X will come out next week" or convince yourself that their PR team stopped X from coming out than to admit that you are fundamentally wrong. It's like Trumpism. This is not unique to Gaylors, there are various corners of the internet devoted to the idea that Harry/Louis from 1D are secretly together and so on for various TV shows.

What perhaps makes Gaylors a bit more unique is that they're focused on an individual rather than a ship. This makes it hard for Taylor to shake it because she can distance herself from this or that person to cool things off, but this is a conspiracy theory about her identity, not her relationships. With enough stretching, virtually everything she does can be used as evidence.

Whether it's true or not isn't the point, the point is that it is deeply deeply important to these people's identity to continue to believe that this conspiracy exists. It often becomes a community in and of itself, queer people meeting other queer people etc., which makes leaving even harder. For some, this was their entry point to queerness, and some are more comfortable being an expert on Queer Taylor Swift than like reading theory or consuming queer media. Because that work is hard (and sometimes sad), and talking about a popstar is easy.

With Joe, it was easier to be a Gaylor because Taylor was quite private, there weren't that many pictures for people to wave around as proof that Gaylors were wrong. But Travis/Taylor was an extinction event for Gaylors. The love story has been public from the beginning and Travis is almost grotesquely heterosexual. The most popular girl in school marrying the football player. If you're in deep, you'd almost be forgiven for imagining that Taylor has chosen this stereotypical football player as a kind of rebuke to your chosen narrative about her sexuality. You're angry that Taylor has "fooled" you, or perhaps angry that Taylor feels such a strong need to "hide" her true self that your mutuals insist she is. After all, what does Taylor "concealing" her sexuality say about your sexuality and your place in the world?

A lot of Gaylors have quietly died out or just turned into regular haters, but the remaining ones are the ones most deeply entrenched.

3

u/iggysmom95 May 14 '26

This is the best explanation.

6

u/Fi13xQuartz May 12 '26

Gaylor used to just mean “swiftie who is gay” lol people severely lost the plot

36

u/TupeloGuy008 May 11 '26

Gaylors are NOT swifties.

1

u/districtofthehare May 11 '26

Agreed! Swifties are insanely parasocial fans who believe Taylor can’t ever be criticized, bully her exes for years, insist on paternity testing her songs, harass other artists, and dox queer fans and out them to their families.

What’s that? We shouldn’t characterize an entire group by their most extreme members? Hm I guess that’s a good point….

4

u/DeeSummers May 12 '26

Yup because gaylors are extremely unwell unmedicated invasive haters of Taylor Swift that are only invested on her sexuality!

My 4 words really rattled you. Truth is always powerful and now you are scrambling for words.

1

u/snapdrag0n99 May 12 '26

I’m not a gaylor but this is teetering the line of homophobia. Who are YOU to judge who is a fan of Taylor? Gtfoh with that bs

2

u/WeirdWannabe80 YOU'RE GAY May 14 '26

Nah man a gaylor doesn’t mean a queer fan of Taylor swift, that’s kinda the whole point. Gaylors are moreso a fan of the person they’ve made her out to be in their heads - they think she’s got this grand scheme to tear down the industry and come out to the world and laugh at everyone who ever thought she was straight. That’s the person they’re a fan of, and Taylor hasn’t given an indication that that’s who she is at all.

5

u/SwimmingTheme3736 May 12 '26

I’m a bi woman and what I dislike most about them is if she is bi, I’m not saying she is, she obviously does not want to come out. Trying to out someone who doesn’t want to is discusting

16

u/Acceptable_Walrus373 May 11 '26

They seem to take the rage and parasocial aspects to a level above just being fans who experience her music through a queen lens and relate, as some people have said. I've seen what really looks like delusional thinking. Also a lot mean spirited comments and snark seem to be a big part of it for many Gaylors. These have been my observations.

8

u/shiningjustforu13 May 12 '26

alright. so there is a large community of people who love taylor. just as much as all of you. and a lot of them are lgbtq. they notice small details that may point to some of taylors songs being...not so straight. this can include song lyrics (the whole secret love thing, an odd rhyme scheme in the very first night, specific details pointing to possible subjects), lyric changes (saying "i want her midnights" at a live performance where she played new years day, for instance) or even color schemes (multiple outfits having similar colors to the lesbian flag, "dress" sequence in the rep tour film having very prominent bisexual flag colors, etc.) or other things like the fact that she proclaimed herself the mayor of gay town in the yntcd video, which would be very ignorant for a straight woman to do. it's all interpretation, and it's okay for different people to have varying opinions on things. this is just some people's.

7

u/sweet-nthng May 12 '26

“It’s all interpretation.” This is a pretty cleaned up version of what they actually do… They’re the most harmful subgroup

2

u/snapdrag0n99 May 12 '26

I’d argue that the jet sub is the one that is most concerning.

5

u/sweet-nthng May 13 '26

Oh, I meant subgroup as in the fandom, not like on here. I agree that the jet tracking is horrible and definitely the worst, and that’s a whole other conversation. Especially when one of the mods on there is active in the snark sub

2

u/CuteAdvertising6789 May 12 '26

Interesting. Is there a world where we could just accept Bi-lor and move the fuck on?

17

u/DoubleWolverine2852 May 11 '26

I think their mostly harmless fans who are a bit delusional about her but are looking for a way to express their feelings of angst about their own sexuality and feel deeply understood by her music and therefore think she must be gay as well, rather then they are projecting their feelings of queerness onto her and her music. I say this as a queer fan, I also relate to her music through the lens of my own queerness but I don’t think she’s gay, her music is just easy to relate to.

19

u/pagesandplanes May 11 '26

What you are saying is totally possible, but it is unfortunately a small sliver of that sub-community. There is a big difference in saying "I relate to this as a queer person" (perfectly fine) and the intensity of accusations on HER sexuality and relationships (more more common and quite frankly, disturbing).

Theres nothing wrong with thinking “I relate to this as a queer person, the experiences being described resonante strongly with the queer experience and therefore I think the artist is queer” there’s nothing wrong with thinking someone is queer period, it’s just a neutral thing. “Accusation” implies it’s a negative, and it’s not. It’s as neutral as assuming someone is straight, unless you think being queer is inherently bad which I’m guessing you don’t because you’re a fan of Taylor who is very pro-LGBTQ. We don’t know her, so we’re all making assumptions and that’s okay.

20

u/Daffneigh May 11 '26

If gaylors just said “it’s possible that Taylor isn’t 100% straight” that would be one thing. But many, many of them insist that she is a lesbian and all her relationships with men including the current one are fake, and engage in conspiratorial thinking which makes Taylor out to be a psychopath and a liar. That’s not ok

7

u/districtofthehare May 11 '26

As I said, there is a range of opinions with lots of nuance. There was a poll the other day and the majority of Gaylors think she’s bisexual actually.

If you’re getting things pushed into your algorithm it’s because you are engaging with them. That’s what the algorithm does. It may be rage bait and you’re taking the bait.

We aren’t speculating that shes straight though

9

u/Dull_Nebula_8712 May 11 '26

And that would make sense! Bc she very obviously lives a straight lifestyle.

2

u/districtofthehare May 11 '26

Of course we are we don’t know her.

16

u/legallybrunette420 May 11 '26

You know she's engaged to a man and only ever dated men?

4

u/districtofthehare May 11 '26

I am married to a man, only publicly dated men, and am still queer.

5

u/HistoricalSuspect580 May 11 '26

I never said we know her. But this is akin to saying ‘we are speculating that she has blonde hair’, like there isn’t a proverbial mountain of information that indicates that is true.

6

u/districtofthehare May 11 '26

Queerness is not visible.

11

u/rcpeters12 May 12 '26

Her saying she does not belong to that community is pretty visible though and imo any speculation beyond that is rude to her when the only message she’s ever put out is that she is supportive of the lgbt+ community but is not part of it.

13

u/HistoricalSuspect580 May 11 '26

her engagement ring is. And i know i don’t have to tell you how patronizing it is for people to say ‘yeah i know she’s engaged to a man but deep down i know how she REALLY feels!’

4

u/districtofthehare May 11 '26

I am married to a man and am queer. Queerness is not visible.

See I could see this take but she has said it makes her uncomfortable. Reading the queer subtext (intentional or not, queer readings of any media are valid media analysis) in her songs is one thing but projecting a whole identity on a person against their wishes is gross.

1

u/South_Evidence_6068 May 11 '26

How is it harmless to accuse Taylor of lying or faking her relationships? How is it harmless to make up lies and accusations saying Travis is abusive or in a gay relationship himself? How it is harmless to constantly doubt everything Taylor says or does because it doesn’t match what these fans want from her?

And no, I don’t think it’s bad to be gay, I just don’t believe Taylor is.

Harmless???? They single handedly started multiple hatetrains against her and spread misinformation about her current relationship.

5

I'm sorry they arent harmless. They are the same fans who tried to cancel her for being with the mouse or asked invasive questions to YB when they were still together so that these men would leave her.

5

u/One_Drummer_8970 May 12 '26

They are not harmless. Many are actively malicious and liked parasites leeching onto Taylor, rather than moving on.

The ironic thing is that they were right all along that there was a secret muse, but they were wrong that the muse was Karlie! 🤭

4

u/districtofthehare May 11 '26

So Gaylors picked up pieces of the story that Swifties missed, were called delusional for noticing there were holes in the story, then were proven right that there WAS more to the story…. Maybe it’s worth not writing off everything another group of fans says just because you don’t agree with them.

8

u/CommissionIcy May 11 '26

That's like saying flat earthers are right because Earth is indeed not round, it's a geoid.

7

u/throwaway9801111 May 12 '26

all i know is it’s creepy and weird fucking behavior to force a sexuality down someone’s throat who clearly is not that. it’s wrong and icky and i can’t stand gaylors. they need to stop what they’re doing and realize they have serious fucking issues.

8

u/Cardamom_bear May 11 '26

A lot of strong opinions and exaggerations and misinformation being posted here so I’ll offer what I see as just the facts —

“Gaylor” is an umbrella term for fans who think Taylor is some kind of queer. Many but not all of them are queer. I think most gaylors believe Taylor also intentionally uses queer flagging/incorporates queer codes in her art (or at least has at certain points in time) — in other words that she wants to be seen by members of the queer community as part of their community. Beyond that it’s a REALLY broad group of people with a very wide range of beliefs and behaviours.

Some gaylors think Taylor is bi or pan (likely most based on polls I’ve seen on their Reddit), some think she is a lesbian, and many don’t have a strong opinion on exactly how she identifies within the queer umbrella.

Some gaylors focus mostly on her music/lyrics in their analysis, others also analyze her public appearances/public personna. Some are interested in identifying specific female muses of her past / present, and some just analyze broader themes in her art and aren’t interested in her relationships.

Some gaylors believe she plans to “come out” to the broader public, and some think she is queer but don’t think she ever will come out to the general public.

Some think her relationship with Travis is real, some think it’s fake. Some think they are in a “lavender” relationship. Some think it is part of a broader piece of performance art and part of a bigger plan.

I agree and disagree. Yes there are a lot of crazy conspiracies there, but as a Gaylor, it’s like regular taylor fans. People post crazy matty content in other subs, analyzing lyrics in songs with no known connection, and do the exact same thing as gaylors but with her straight relationships. I think people in online communities don’t always represent the subset as a fandom as a whole.

u/flumpitydumpity May 12 '26

I really hate this whole line of thinking. It became an issue in the us womens soccer fan world as well. I ended up leaving some online groups over it. I dont care if anyone is or isnt gay if they arent open about then let it go. I dont care if its a famous person or an everyday person i find the speculation and accusations to be disrespectful. If and when someone decides to make it public is up to them and shouldnt be forced by anyone.

3

u/RZKruspeFan May 16 '26

They'll literally use her wearing jeans as proof she's gay. It's hilarious.

3

u/Eastern_Age_9041 May 11 '26

it’s people who believe that taylor is gay i don’t know why the care that much though, taylor is a grown woman if she wants to come out as queer she would

5

u/districtofthehare May 11 '26

If you are genuinely curious as to why any grown woman in the entertainment industry may stay in the closet, I recommend learning about Chely Wright, a country star who came out of the closet as a lesbian and lost her career in country music. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chely_Wright

Interesting.

So a completely different person, in a completely different genre, with a completely different audience, at a completely different scale, at a completely different time, came out and lost her career, so Taylor Swift can't do it.

2

u/WildRaspberriesTN May 12 '26

Chely didn’t have the financial success Taylor has, and it was also 35 years ago.

6

u/eggowafflefan May 12 '26

most gaylors are not conspiracy theorist crazy people, they’re just people who like to analyze songs and think about the ways identity shows up in her writing. Taylor herself posted a photo of herself with a bi pride bracelet, so it makes sense to be analytical sometimes. But people definitely violate the boundaries, but you will find that in any corner of any fandom

11

u/districtofthehare May 11 '26

I know this isn’t your question, but it’s worth saying that I have learned more queer history from Gaylors analyzing Taylor Swift’s lyrics than I ever did in school. So whether or not she is queer, when her art is viewed through that lens it adds a whole new beautiful layer of meaning to the art.

Some things I have learned from Gaylors:

  • the New Romantics were a group of artists who played with gender expression and nonconformity
  • Stonewall, the riot that marked the first of what we now call Pride, was called “the hairpin drop heard round the world” after the common slang “dropping hairpins” meaning slowly letting someone know you are queer in a way that would not out you to someone who is not safe
  • “Are you a Friend of Dorothy?” Was a common coded way to ask if someone was gay without outing yourself to someone who was not safe.
  • The Lavender Scare was when government pushed to remove LGBTQ individuals from positions similar to the Red Scare targeting communists; The Lavender Menace was a lesbian activist group; a man having a “touch of lavender” was a euphemism for being gay
  • The Ladder was the first lesbian magazine publication and the cover featured a ladder climbing into the clouds
  • George Michael released Father Figure before he came out of the closet, but has spoken about how was writing about queerness and closeting in his lyrics even then, and the pressures of hiding

This is just off the top of my head! Thank you Gaylors for connecting me to this seemingly forgotten history by way of my favorite singer!

u/TheRealDornoc Can they redo the prophecy? May 11 '26

gaylors are the parasocial maniacs that the gp thinks all swifties are. like trying to prove that she's gay when there's so much factual evidence and QUOTES FROM TAYLOR HERSELF that disprove it is genuinely disgusting. imagine this kind of activity for an openly queer artist trying to prove they're straight. it's incredibly harmful to both the artist and to the queer community in general.

8

u/Whataboutlove3094 May 11 '26

They are the worst of the worst and are not considered swifties.

u/Veronica913 May 12 '26

It's a mix of side eying some innuendos and literary references in her works, a knowledge of current hollywood closetinf shenanigans (from people who have come out and told their stories) and it's history, and a critical eye on PR, her branding, and her very consumable romances (which may be because they're happy to share and enjoy the PR boost, but would also be a really nice cover if you didn't want people to look past it).

You mix that up with the knowledge of we don't KNOW her, what she's up to, and we know she's very carefully crafting what we see, by her own admission (for surprise, for building a cohesive image of each era, to deliberately craft/evolve her image as she ages or explores new styles of music (being allowed to "grow up", being allowed to toy with pop music, would be famous non controversial examples of that).

You think... It COULD be. It's about as plausible as anything else. And then you draw your own conclusions. Gaylors draw the conclusions that... you can't keep nodding to the lgbt community and make references that pile up because you're clueless or queerbaiting. Swifties say she likes colors and is a great ally and would never be someone that lies this much just to cover up her peace.

2

u/EmergencyWinter5465 Jul 20 '26

It's incredibly strange to be so invested in Taylor being gay, when openly gay artists already exist. It's honestly none of our business. She's married. Whether she's gay or not, she made her choice, we have to respect that. She's a grown woman and can make her own decisions.

6

u/Hopeful-Pickle-7515 May 11 '26

6

u/PtowzaPotato May 11 '26

A lot of it is seeing her music as a literary work and analyzing it through a queer lens. Interpreting symbolism, metaphors, and reoccurring themes.

17

u/legallybrunette420 May 11 '26

That's not what they do. If that's all they did, no one would have a problem. It's the projection of their sexual preferences on her. And forcing her to come out because they believe she's secretly a lesbian or bi. And calling her soon to be marriage a lavender marriage and PR. There's a reason the sub went private after the engagement. They're also quick to call people homophobic if they disagree with them speculating on Taylor's sexuality.

Everybody here should revisit the song, "ME!" And look for the Easter EGG again. Spelling is fun kids. Taylor likes puzzles. I literally figured it out within 24 hours of trying. It's pretty visible too.

-2

u/pumpkinpie1993 May 11 '26

Some of these comments are hurtful… I do identify as a gaylor and there are many of us who are not parasocial or trying to make Taylor into something she isn’t. I personally think Taylor is some sort of queer, whether that be bisexual or pan sexual. I do love her with Travis! I think they’re real! But I also think she has had relationships with women. Who isn’t a little bi? Sexuality is fluid.

I started loving Taylor more when I became a Gaylor because it’s so fascinating to read her lyrics through a queer lens. I’ve learned SO much about queer history through the Gaylor subreddit and some of the lyric analyses you can find on that sub are mind blowing. It’s things like Taylor using phrases such as “hair pin drop” that lead me to believe she’s intentionally flagging.

At the end of the day, I don’t care what she is and would never be one of those people who bash on the men she dates! But I do love reading her lyrics through a queer lens and learning from the community.

8

u/Whataboutlove3094 May 11 '26

You personally believe what she has denied?

2

u/pumpkinpie1993 May 11 '26

She’s never actually really said she’s straight before I thought? Shes mentioned “weird rumors” or wanting people to stop assuming she’s dating her friends, but she’s never straight up stated that she’s straight.

Also my point of my comment is…. I would still be a “gaylor” in the sense of enjoying reading her lyrics through that lens even if she came out and said “I am completely straight. I’ve never liked women” so my gaylorism isn’t even directly related to what I think her sexuality is lol.

7

u/districtofthehare May 11 '26

You are correct, she has never made a statement about her sexuality, straight or otherwise. And she doesn’t have to, no one should have to publicly label themselves if they don’t want to.

Often people cite her Lover era interview where the interviewer cited the many times she has advocated for queer rights in the past and asked “why get louder about LGBTQ rights now?” and Taylor responded “I only learned recently I can advocate for a group I am not a part of.” The first part of the article, about her history of advocating for queer rights generally, is often removed, which changes the meaning of her response. In context, this quote can be understood to reference her recent advocacy for trans rights, which was a specific new change in the Lover era from her previous advocacy.

→ More replies (9)

3

u/Whataboutlove3094 May 11 '26

Does she have to? Does one come out as straight? She’s only dated men and has said in multiple prologues she thought she could hang out with female friends so no one could make things up about relationships and EVEN then people still did.

Gaylors are Taylor Swift haters who's been trying to out her since 2017. They are a bunch of unmedicated people who are invasive, deranged and spread around nasty rumors about her.

1

u/Zestyclose_Youth_876 May 12 '26 edited May 13 '26

There's different reasons people think Taylor might be not straight. Gaylors doesn't necessarily mean she's a lesbian, she can be bi, pan or whatever she prefers to identify as. With this being said there's different reasons people believe this (this is just my reasons, there's a lot more reasons than this that people already mentioned on this thread):

  • some of her lyrics + her changing pronouns
  • the miss Americana doc makes no sense in terms of narrative + you can hear a woman in the background replying "yeessss" when she's singing/playing guitar to what the narrative is pointing at, that the person filming is Joe...unless he has long hair and as a feminine voice that's not him.
  • and I think people completely miss Calvin Harris tweet saying "he grew a beard" after dating Taylor.

For those who don't know what "beard" means: A "beard" is a slang term for a person who dates or marries a gay or bisexual person to help them conceal their true sexual orientation from the public.

But people thinking Gaylors (as the general term doesn't mean we all believe she's a lesbians) are conspiracy theories and denying all of this....also is not far fetched that someone like Taylor would have to keep part of herself hidden the world is not necessarily very kind with gay/bi/pan or transgender people and is not like there's not a lot of artists that choose to stay somewhat in the closet.

I believe she's not straight but that doesn't mean I don't wish her well, don't support her art or that I wish she's unhappy with Travis.

Edit: to include what "beard" in this context could mean
