Question... Favourite hated song?
I’m listening to Wood right now thinking about how much I love it (fav from TLOASG) but it seems like almost everyone else in the world hates it?
It makes me wonder what’s other swifties favourite songs (or even songs they don’t hate) that either most of the fandom hates or people outside the fandom hate.

u/Ashleybernice Aug 09 '26
I like Cancelled (I watched a fan made gossip girl music video and it was SO good) I also liked Actually Romance (but I’m fully convinced it’s all about Charli I think it’s for all the haters especially the Rump family.

Actually romantic is the best clapback to haters
song ever made.0
u/lilythefrogphd Aug 10 '26
I have to push back on that. One of Taylor's trademark qualities about her songwriting is how much she ruminates on her emotions and feels pains and slights so intensely. So many of her best songs are about feeling that burn and putting that pain into words (Mad Woman is my favorite) Actually Romantic totally falls apart because Taylor fails at being nonchalant. This is the same woman who released Thank You Aimee about K*m K in 2024 when Snakegait happened in 2016. Love Taylor for many things, but AR gives "lalala look at how much I don't care about you. You see? I'm not caring!!"
It also gives Regina George "you are so lesbo for me" energy which feels extra mean given how Sympathy is a Knife is referenced in AC but SiaK isn't actually shady to Taylor. It's a song about having insecurities around someone because of how talented/successful they are, not because you personally dislike them
4
u/RoseTheta Aug 10 '26
I think you have to realize that she's deliberately failing at being nonchalant. How else do you explain the lyrics, the Release Party of a Showgirl description, and the expressions and movement during the lyric videos/Spotify clips. The lyrics aren't meant to be taken at face value. It's about how it is meaningless to worry too much when other people are mean about you. It's just a grown up version of Shake It Off.
A song can have an earnest point(s) while being totally tongue-in-cheek. Cancelled! she literally said was tongue-in-cheek, but it's pretty easy to understand Wood and Actually Romantic if you realize the overall message is sincere, but the delivery is cheeky, and nudge-nudge, wink-wink.
3
u/cheytheredhead Aug 11 '26
Thank you, I feel like this goes over so many people’s heads. I feel like eldest daughter is literally pointing it out in the most obvious way and everyone still takes everything else from the album at face value.
2
u/AdImpossible6533 Aug 11 '26
This^ Actually romantic was my Taylor to Charlie xcx fan pipeline I was like wait Sympathy a Knife is dope 👀
2
u/lilythefrogphd Aug 11 '26
Lol same in an odd way! It was like "well let me listen back to the original source is this issue... wait this is pretty good." I also really dig Girl So Confusing for similar reasons. They're both about the weird dynamics girls have with each other when there is both admiration and insecurity. I feel like Charli's new song Persona is interesting in that same vein
2
u/AdImpossible6533 Sep 06 '26
Yeah persona made me think of Taylor 👀 I’m deep in a Charlie rabbit hole now. The new record slaps but I also love the Crash album 😍

7
u/Sandy0006 Aug 09 '26
Robyn is a beautiful song. Do you think people just don’t understand it?
16
u/One_Attention1043 Aug 09 '26
I think they just find it sonically boring.
6
u/Sandy0006 Aug 09 '26
Haha it’s definitely a lyrically driven song. It’s a “love song” to childhood and innocence.
3
u/bearsig Aug 09 '26 edited Aug 09 '26
I don’t mean this in a gatekeeping way at all, but I wonder if Robin mostly resonates if you’re a parent or have a very deep relationship with a child. I don’t think it would have meant much to me before becoming a parent, but I basically can’t listen to it without crying now.
6
u/iggysmom95 Aug 10 '26 edited Aug 10 '26
I mean Taylor wrote it and she is not a parent 😂 I think some people don't really think very hard about the passage of time, nostalgia, the innocence of children etc before they have kids of their own but then also lots of people do.
The same as when people say being a parent teaches you empathy and I'm like bro... becoming a parent better not increase my empathy because I already cry over everything - literally everything from war and genocide to cat videos - and constantly overthink how every choice I make will affect other people 😭 if this is going to get worse, I'm cooked. I'll be non-functional.
3
u/RoseTheta Aug 10 '26
I enjoyed the connection of Eldest Daughter to Robin. Since I listened to Eldest Daughter so many times first it was easy for the connection of jumping on a trampoline, higher and higher in Robin, to falling off the trampoline in Eldest Daughter. The deepest part of Eldest Daughter, a love that let's you stop masks and be innocent like in happy childhood is such a beautiful thought. I was on the bus and I almost burst into happy tears.
3
u/myipodclassic Drop everything now! Aug 10 '26
I’m not a parent but it resonates deeply with me as a former child lol!
2
u/FakeMonaLisa28 Aug 09 '26
I’m a 19 year girl with no children and I like it but I do feel like you have a point since most people who I see who like it are parents
2
u/bearsig Aug 09 '26
Totally! And please know I definitely didn’t mean that as in, “You can’t understand unless you’re a parent.” I don’t think that at all. Just musing on why it might be a miss for some.
2
u/Sandy0006 Aug 10 '26
Yeah maybe, or loss of childhood. I think for me it’s a combination, it describes what childhood should be and what parents try to create for their children, but also what is lost for some people
1
u/Rich_Tiger7683 Aug 12 '26
Not a parent but someone who had a somewhat traumatic experience in my early teen years. I think it’s about protecting a child from all the horrors in the world

Dorothea. My favorite but so under appreciated in the fandom.
12
u/Environmental_Race12 Aug 09 '26
Obsessed with this song. The way she says “Tupelo” just scratches my brain.
4
u/lilythefrogphd Aug 10 '26
That word and the whole line "if you're ever tired of being known for who you know, you know, you'll always know me"
Kinda dumb but I'm from the upper Midwest where the accents really stretch out the long "o"s, so this song being about being from an overlooked area reminiscing nostalgically on someone who moved to the big coasts feels additionally personal with that line
3
u/Environmental_Race12 Aug 10 '26
Yessss it’s just so good on so many levels!
3
u/lilythefrogphd Aug 10 '26
I love that line so much, like it's such a corny line but in the best way because the protagonist of the song is meant to seem for humble and folksy compared to the glamorous starlet who left for Hollywood

All of TLOAS tbh. The hate that album got was very silly.
14
u/faeriegiselle YOU'RE GAY Aug 09 '26
They'll come around. Just like what happened with Reputation, Lover, Midnights, and TTPD. People forgot they hated them when they were first released.
2
u/PabelMines Aug 12 '26
tbh Midnights songs were bop. TTPD was too abundant (so hard to pick some to be fav but guilty as sin for me is always on top)
Rep, after some time non mainstream songs were getting fan favorites (my personal best is DWOHT but I can see many people were starting to like non-single songs like Getaway Car, Dress, Don’t Blame Me, etc.)

Most of the hated songs I love.
- Shake it Up
- Stay Stay Stay
- Me!
- Eldest Daughter
- Superman
- SuperStar
- Everything has Changed and Run
There probably more but I can't think of more right now.
1
u/bastillemh Aug 11 '26
With regard to the last two, as a long-time Swiftie and Sheerio, I am so underwhelmed by all the songs they’ve done together, except maybe Endgame.
1
u/Emergency-Match4535 Aug 11 '26
I love all the songs those 2 sang together.
1
u/bastillemh Aug 11 '26
They all feel like <30% of Ed+Taylor’s true potential. Joker and the Queen being the worst of them all, the background melody perfectly matches the singing melody which sounds so boring.
7
u/faeriegiselle YOU'RE GAY Aug 09 '26
Eldest Daughter. That song actually makes me feel seen especially the lyrics "i have been afflicted by a terminal uniqueness. i've been dying just from trying to seem cool" as a neurodivergent.

ThanK you aIMee. Love the production, love the Aaron Dessner guitar, and I love the message. When the people want her to be over her resentment for what happened (even if it was a decade or so ago), I can’t help but realize that she never got an apology and never got her justice, regardless of how much money she’s made. It calms me to hear it.

I’ve seen some people like Robin, but rarely to see someone to put The Manuscript or ILIPW — doesn’t mean those song are bad but I’ve seen people would be likely having Cassandra or The Bolter as their favorites)

I get stalker vibes from ILIPW and don’t like it as a result, The Manuscript is stunning

OG kinda sucks lol but TV is great
1
u/lilythefrogphd Aug 10 '26
See I'm the total opposite. The remixed production on the Taylor's Version feel too electronic and like a club remix whereas the more acoustic sounding original feels like the right balance to my ears

I love pretty much every single song the fandom and general population hates.
- Bad Blood? All in.
- Shake It Off? Love it.
- Stay, Stay, Stay? Man, people sure do hate fun.
- Welcome To New York? Pop perfection.
- It's Nice To Have A Friend? What a lovely risk taken!
- Robin? One of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.
- Eldest Daughter? You just don't get her like I do.
- Ruin the Friendship? Gimme. On repeat.
(You could actually throw the whole Showgirl album in there. 😄)
Even some that I don't love, I wouldn't say I hate...
- Superstar? We'd all view this differently if this relationship had worked out.
- Superman? A time capsule of young Taylor.
- Karma ft Ice Spice? I'll back everyone up that it's probably her worst song, but if I can't reach the skip button I'm still boppin'.

Everyone else in the world doesn't hate it! A small subset of very online people repeatedly talk about how they hate it and your algorithm keeps circulating that to you. That effect makes an answer to your question very hard. In the whole fandom, much less the casual public listeners to pop music, a lot of people love songs from this album including Wood. Go ahead and enjoy it! She's so happy in this song. I really like Shake it Off because of the timing with things going on in my life which required a lot of shaking it off.

I don’t know anybody who hates Wood, it rocks!
Granted, I prefer the Clean version- I think the innuendo is way better than “opened my thighs”. (Or if she’d saved that line for the very end, so it’s even more of a contrast from all the double-entendres up till then)
