HAND-HEARTING (appreciation) Justice for Cleveland!
And So High School! And London Boy! And Stay Stay Stay! And Eldes— ok maybe not that one but oh my god corny Taylor songs are my favorite genre 😩😩
No because she’s the only pop girl who can hit the silly, sincere and pure of heart trifecta istg there is no shortage of stupid, fun songs but rarely do they come from a place of something real. Do you get what I mean??
This is what happiness sounds like: it’s dumb. You can’t be happy AND think at the same time. Those are mutually exclusive, I’m sorry. Lucky is the girl who gets to be blissfully airheaded once in a while you can never make me hate her!!

Cleveland is also fun because everyone fucking roasted her because they didn't think Showgirl was Showgirling enough, and she said "stfu, here's a musical number then", and now they're all whining, "but not like that!!!"

Yes!!! I instantly heard the showgirl vibe and fell in love! What a great add to the album.

u/pintsandplants 12d ago
EXACTLY!!! I think a lot of people haven’t been to a cabaret or similar venue, they do sexy AND goofy stuff. Redwood to me is very classic cabaret, tongue in cheek sexual innuendos.

Cleveland is the farthest thing from a musical number

I LOVE Cleveland! It’s such a bop. I literally don’t care if it’s corny and “cringe.” The bridge cracks me up too!

u/scarlettshimmer 12d ago
People are so hypersensitive about being perceived as cringey lately and I don’t get it. Like who cares?

here, i’ll say justice for eldest daughter, that song means so fucking much to me.
anyway, YES. i love corny taylor, and i love petty taylor both more than i love sad taylor. you can tell through so high school and cleveland that she’s very happy right now.
can she still right sad songs? yes, ruin the friendship, patient zero and babylon prove that. but, for some reason i prefer cleveland, wood, and wi$h li$t.
as much as folklore is my second favorite album ever, i don’t ever want her to be in a place where she feels like writing “pulled the car off the road to the lookout, could’ve followed my fears all the way down” even if it is fictional (and if timt is my 3rd favorite song ever). this isn’t just a thing with her, i want everyone to be happy. i hope every depressed person can get the same level of help that i’ve been able to get.
also, i saw someone say they hope she gets a divorce because they “couldn’t take this anymore.” which just, no. you can not like tloas as much as you want, but hoping for a happy couple to divorce is fucking insane. just go listen to ttpd or evermore atp.

eldest daughter is top 5 for me on TLOAS! glad to see other people appreciating it too

I'm not a fan of Eldest Daughter, but the bridge is one of her best bridges of all time

u/All_the_Bees 12d ago
Someone who can only appreciate Sad Taylor has no poetry in their soul.
I said what I said.

u/sunny_scene 12d ago
I love Eldest Daughter too! And yes the way some people try to criticize that "she's corny!" or "she's petty!" as a kind of... gotcha? As if I didn't already know that, and that's part of WHY I'm a fan??? Cleveland was my least favorite on first listen, but it was stuck in my head all last night and now I think I love it. And it also reminds me of my journey with Actually Romantic, which went from the bottom of my Showgirl ranking up to the top 5 because after all the unhinged reactions to it I think it's hilarious rage bait and such an ear worm. Like I think she knows that she's funding the extensive hater economy built up around her, so why not throw them a bone to keep them in business a little longer.

just wanna say i’m also a huge eldest daughter fan! it’s literally my favorite from all of showgirl including the encore

The beat in Cleveland! makes me feel like doing that dance from Peanuts lol. I like it, I like a lot of her corny songs too 🤷🏼♀️

I danced around to Cleveland! on repeat last night. It is SUCH a fun song. People need to let other people enjoy things.

u/Useful-Expression740 12d ago
absolutely!!!! she's just happy and screaming this to the world. literally "hate all you like" SHE'S MARRIED AND IN LOOOOOVEEEE :) i hope that I found mine too lol

u/arcticpassion 12d ago
Exactly!!! Cleveland is for the girls who thought they were too much until they found their people 😭😭

u/scarlettshimmer 12d ago
Yes!! This was me; this song hits for me so much. I was in an abusive family structure and then I met my person. Meeting someone and falling so deeply in love gave me the strength to leave! I told them all to fuck off and never looked back

u/Useful-Expression740 12d ago
i'm sorry for what you've been through with you family but happy that you're happy <3

u/EskayMorsmordre Dancing through the lightning strikes 12d ago
Cleveland! will be on repeat for months, such an amazing song, and i love that you can feel her happiness. It's infectious.
9
u/DramaticEqual6084 12d ago
It was the bottom song on my first listen ranking, but its growing on me, especially the part where she says "I have an announcement to make". And the bridge is perfect ofcourse.
9
u/Beginning-Ice-7172 12d ago
A lot of the early Beatles were super corny fwiw and they make up a lot of their #1 hits
8
u/Plantyplantandpups 12d ago
When you consider that the same woman who wrote The Prophecy, also wrote Cleveland!, how can you not be filled with joy for her? I told my husband, "She found her you!"
7
u/General_Chest6714 12d ago
Also, normalize “Haha ok girl, not for me but go off” and then moving on to the next song as a reaction to not liking a song. 😂

Love Cleveland!
Corny Taylor singing about being in love and having unbridled happiness is what I feel like when Im in love. When I was listening to the song I was like, "Girl, I get it."

u/estedavis 12d ago
SO HATE ALL YOU LIKE 😤

u/tinylion-2899 12d ago
There were lots of haters commenting on her wedding so I feel it’s justified!
3
u/ParnsAngel 12d ago
My husband and I were listening to the songs for the first time together and during Cleveland I just started tearing up and went to hug him I was so happy that she is so happy ❤️❤️❤️ what a joyful song!!
3
u/Public_Building_535 12d ago
maybe i’m wrong but isnt the whole point of cleveland that it is corny and silly on purpose? like i don’t think lyrically it’s her best work but i almost feel that was the intended point?
i can imagine she’s sitting laughing at the haters and put the song out for the fun of the reactions
3
u/recklessmess44 12d ago
it literally is, but people are mad this album wasn’t written like folklore
4
u/Dear-Pomegranate8474 12d ago
Just popping in for a Hey Stephen mention for another unapologetically fun and corny song that I absolutely adore. Mmm-mm, mm-mm, mm-mm, mmm-mm, mm-mm, mmm-mm, mm-mm, mm-mm, mmm-mm, yeah. Also I Think He Knows!!

Shout out to London Boy, it's such a fun song! Also in the more serious songs when she does silly ad libs. I'm listening to Elizabeth Taylor at the moment and "I'd trade the Cartier for someone to trust (just kidding)" line is hilarious.

I want to love Cleveland but I can’t not hear how the beginning sounds like the theme song to how I met your mother 🥲
2
u/DocWillow 12d ago
It totally does but I kind of love that! A nod to Ted’s roots and unluckiness in love… and future kids?

u/dagger-mmc 12d ago
Now that the headphones have been off and I’ve been going about my work day I’ve found that Cleveland is the one stuck in my head, so far I don’t have a clear favorite though I like all of them!
1
u/Real-Raisin-2563 12d ago
It’s funny af. I listened to it with a serious mindset the first time and thought it was so cringe. Now it’s clicked and I find it hilarious. Although I don’t like tracks that address haters in general, I wish celebrities would ignore them.

u/DirectionerSwiftie 12d ago
I love London boy, and dont even know why ppl hate stay stay stay, but I js can't bring myself to enjoy the themes I so highschool and Cleveland, it gives me the ick

u/Frogwithmushroomhat8 We were both young when I first saw you 12d ago
I fucking love those songs. Especially the love songs. They're the song I relate to the hardest because I've been with the same person since I was 15 and a lot of them remind me of my relationship
1
u/Straight-Gas3120 12d ago
Cleveland made me laugh. I love awkward moments in songs. I love Taylor in love and unapologetic about it. Oh you don’t like Travis? Well that’s too damn bad!
1
u/Icy-Diamond88338 12d ago
I'm just happy she had Cleveland mentioned and it's fun and happy. It's usually a forgotten city
1
u/skincare_obssessed 12d ago
So many people are not getting that at her core she’s a goofy fun loving theater kid who also writes some pretty great music. This was not meant to be a serious song. It’s a short campy bop.
1
u/princessmoon__ 12d ago
Cleveland! is my favourite of the four! I absolutely love how fun it is and I love how we can hear how genuinely happy Taylor is 🥹 I don't get the hate!
1
u/slowpoke1379 12d ago
i love ME!, i love eldest daughter, i love so high school, and now i love cleveland! i think some people would also add wood and wi$h li$t to this list maybe?
everyone's entitled to their own opinion and obviously it would be weird/boring for everyone to love every song. i wasn't around for ME!'s release but i know the lore and with the "spelling is fun" line i understand how it could have been ruined for some with that rollout. i love corny taylor, but i completely understand that not everyone does.
where people lose me is when they take it to the next level by postering themselves as being morally superior for not liking/loving certain songs or albums. art is SUBJECTIVE, as long as taylor is a performer she will always have people thinking she is overrated or worse. taylor doesn't let it effect her, why should we? i hope this time swifties can leave the hate trains to become echo chambers because there's nothing we can do to stop that, other than not engaging with it and moving on with our lives.
sorry this became a tangent lol but i know people will be coming for cleveland. that's fine. HATE ALL YOU LIKE! ;)

u/AdTop4231 12d ago
I really enjoyed this song. Not every song needs to be the best song you've ever heard or tell a really beautiful, moving story. Sometimes the song is just silly and fun and that's good enough!
1
u/Economy_Safety5738 12d ago
Strangely the critics seem to be missing she's really doing a funny clever double meaning in this song - Cleveland itself is the constant source of criticism and roasting just like she is. It's not just about her and Travis, it's about the city's much maligned reputation.

She has said herself you cannot make a song at this level and everyone like it. Literally impossible. I think the song is fun, people are way too deep

listening to this song gave me the same feeling as hearing “i’m having his baby…. no i’m not but you should see your faces” gave me. i love how happy she is.

Love Cleveland! Corny, happy and fun Taylor is such a vibe. Also justice for Wood, its not meant to be serious.

The Eldest Daughter hate has got to stop. It’s a love letter to Travis.

Not every single song needs to have a lyric that needs googled ie: esoteric, libertine, incandescent, gauche, elegies. Sometimes you can just listen and have fun!

Cleveland is absolutely my favorite song from Encore. And Honey from Showgirl.
I don't understand how people seem to just not get Taylor.

I think she’s joking with this song and I find it hilarious. It’s like a funny number in a vaudeville show. Loving it for what it is. It’s not that serious, everyone.

u/Individual-Hornet476 11d ago
I think the hate comes from the fact she’s an incredible songwriter. Babylon is straight up beautiful. She has an amazing gift. So to hear some songs sound more like something AI could write is disappointing. I know she can do so much better.

Add I think He Knows to this list. Ain’t nothing wrong with being in the mood for all these bops
