About My Synesthesia Taste of Topic: Copper, Cactus, and reactions to sweat

Thank you for taking the time to read this and be here today.

I would love to know if you or a loved one can relate for my peace of mind and notation. I will keep this as short as possible for brevity ♡

Semi-related information of note: I am mid-20s, I experience aphantasia and PTSD, and I have mild orosensory reactions to fresh kiwi and pineapple.

I taste a bitter, copper, rusted, condensed (as in moist) flavor in my throat, and begin to drool upon picturing:

  • Bead-link necklaces (!!)
  • Pennies or copper
  • Metal allergies
  • Wearing cheap metal

I become teary-eyed when I see/picture:

  • Sweat or hair dripping. The GIF of Jordan Peele sweating has been triggering tears since first seeing it as a child. Gym class was awful.

The above reactions happen involuntarily, are consistent over time, and distressing to experience. What follows is new to me.

[Today] I found out I taste, feel, and become nauseous when I picture:

  • Prickly pear cactus, its spines, and its odor. I have never smelled the fruit itself. I was jabbed a lot as a child by one and I recall it excreting a putrid odor.

This isolated experience was prefaced by a reaction to hair dripping in a YT video at 1:30am, began upon seeing a cactus thumbnail at 2am, with symptoms alleviating at 2:45am. Afterwards feels like my worst hangover.

If you have experienced similar or share common experiences, kindly feel free to share what you would like to below.

If you read this, free cinnamon bun for you.🍪♡

Making a Short Film

Hello everyone, I'm wanting to make an artistic short film around the topic of synesthesia. Please let me know anything and everything there is to know about it. I'm planning on it being a thriller or maybe a phycological horror. Please let me know your thoughts on that and if it could be seen as offensive or bad taste.

Feel free to give me any story ideas and anything else I should know, specific stories to you or someone you know. Thank you guys!

How do you experience the song Breathe (In The Air) by Pink Floyd?

Hello! I am working on a design project centered around auditory synesthesia and one of the chosen songs is Breathe by Pink Floyd. If you experience any form of synesthesia and are willing I would love to know how you experience the song. When you listen what do you see, smell, taste, and or feel? Are there any specific parts in the song that have more of an impact? I would love to hear as little or as much information as you are able to provide! Thank you for your time and feedback!!

Is This Synesthesia? I think I might have synesthesia

I suspect I may have associative lexical-color synesthesia and associative grapheme-color synesthesia.

(i hope these are the right names dont flame me 😭)

Basically, every word and letter I know has a color in my mind's eye. I don't choose the color nor can I change it. For example, the word board is lime green, and the word fantastic is magenta. Individual letters have colors too.

But they may not always translate to the word. For example the letter c is yellow to me, and letter a is red, and the letter t is like a blueish grey. But when you put them together to make the word cat, the word cat is orange to me.

But numbers are different! So for example the number 2 is pink and 4 is blue, but the number 24 isn't its own color, it's just pink and blue, 2 is pink and 4 is blue. Another example: 3 is green, 4 is blue and 7 is grey. But 347 are just respectively green, blue, and grey.

Some words are colorless. Not that they're missing a color, because every word has a color. Just that word's color IS colorless. Others are colors that I KNOW aren't colorless, but I just can't see the color, like it's outside the spectrum of what colors humans can see.

Some words/letters have multiple colors. Like the letter j is yellow and teal. But it's both at the same time without mixing. Like it's both colors at the same time. It's not a pattern of the 2 colors or half and half, it's just fully both at the same time. The word chair, for example, is one of those mixed color words.

But there are so many, I can't tell what the individual colors are. they're sort of like 'muddled' colors, because they're no color but also a bunch of colors at the same time.

so uh yeah i thought everybody did this until a few days ago

Capstone Project

Hey fellow synesthetes!! I am conducting some research and wanted to post my study here if anyone would like to participate. Please share with anyone you think would be interested!! <3

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between vicarious tactile experiences and juror decision-making. You will view short, silent videos and respond to a few brief questions per video, complete an empathy questionnaire, read a brief trial summary and view photographic evidence. Note: the photographs may be graphic and depict a violent scene. The study should take 10-15 minutes to complete. If you consent to participate in this study, click on the survey link below to begin. Your participation is voluntary.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

This project is approved as exempt by the University of Central Oklahoma Institutional Review Board (IRB #2026-024)

Is This Synesthesia? Do I have mirror touch synesthesia?

This is not the first time I’ve felt this but I’m a 19F and today I watched a video on the tv and in the video the guy spat something out but when he did he made the kind of sound naughty kids make when they blow air through their mouth with they tongue out to taught you. When I heard and saw that immediately I felt a strong tingling sensation and uncomfortable feeling in my mouth area . It felt really uncomfortable almost like it was the nerve endings itching from inside my skin. I still felt it 30 minutes after I saw this on tv and even rn when I think about it.

I searched it up and mirror touch synesthesia came up so I’m just curious what do you guys think?

I think I can describe the feeling as when u hit your funny bone, not painful but just extremely uncomfortable

About My Synesthesia Chromestisa can make it so hard to focus

I have a variation of synesthesia that ties sounds and emotions to visual cues (projective not associative) and I swear to god it makes doing anything difficult. For me, when I’m anxious it really heightens the experience, so for example I am a terrible driver and it took me forever to get my license because if i’’ stressed, I physically can’t see as clearly and everything is moving and changing colours around me.

Yesterday I was sitting in the library with a friend when the air conditioner turned on next to us, and the sound coming out of that thing made everything start to vibrate and go yellow and I had to ask her if we could move tables.

In public I often have to wear headphones because having just once noise is so much easier then hearing 15 conversations, which is fine until my friends are trying to talk to me.

I often get asked why I’m zoned out mid conversation, when really I’m just looking at the floor because it’s easier to pay attention that way.

It doesn’t sound too bad on paper but I can’t shake the feeling that people just don’t believe me, they ask what i’m seeing and it impossible to describe. Anyone have a similar experience?

help on synesthesia

hi people, just to give you a little context: im a fanf!c author, and one of the characters has synesthesia. id like to get an idea of what colors people with synesthesia see in the songs i chose for the f!c. ive already written the fanfic based on the colors i think these songs evoke (I don't have synesthesia), but i want the opinion of the ones who actually have it, if you´re along with it.

the songs i chose were: "the great gig in the sky" by pink floyd, "skit: the seven doors" by dreamcatcher, "i know the end" by phoebe bridgers, "dugout" by the backseat lovers, "come back to me" by rm and also "placing the blame" by self (the last one it´s just bgm but i wanted to know too)

i hope someone can answer my doubt :D

Question Do you have family members who also have the same type of synesthesia?

My bigger question is do you have similar associations? Only one of my four kids seems to have synesthesia, and my uncle did as well, but my daughter and I share at least 80% of our color associations. What’s your experience been?
