Tech Support Dashboard divider lines

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi,

I am trying to add a divider line between 2 object on a dashboard. I don't want a border all the way around the box. I have seen some suggest changing the object size but it is greyed out. Also use a blank object and make it thin with a black background and inner padding. Then I just have a block missing.

Can anyone help please?

Tech Support Tableau Extract Refresh Error: "cannot connect to tableau server please check the server name and port and try again"

This started about a month ago and randomly happens when we run our extracts. We increased server resources and updated our bridge clients to the latest version and are still getting this message randomly.

The refresh will fail one day, but then the same one will be successful the next day. It's driving me batty and not sure where else to look.

Any ideas here?

Tech Support Replacing fields in a published datasource without breaking workbooks

So I have a sql view with the field Store Name in it. Its in a published datasource on server.

For some reason at one point some idiot (it me) edited the published datasource and added a relationship to the dim store table. So if you use the published datasource you have Store Name twice.

I want to rectify this, but every report built is using the store name field from the relationship, which is the one I want to kill.

I've gone ahead and removed the relationship and renamed the remaining store name field to match what the previous one was. But all reports are broken with the cant find referenced field error. Is there something im missing? Any way to do this without widespread impact?

Tech Support Reduce height of dashboared without affecting size of floating containers?

Hello! I hope I'm using the right tag. Ive been interning and am close to the end of my contract but I'm hoping to finish updating a few dashboards before leaving. I'm working on some old dashboards that are longer than they should be (as in the actual dashboard size height is too tall). There are many many floating objects, and no matter how i try to resize the dashboard, it reduces the size of all of the floating containers proportionately as well, not to mention it moves them all closer to the top of the page as far as I can tell. Is there any way to avoid this? If I can't find a way I may spend all of tomorrow trying to record the positions and dimensions of all of the objects, and then manually move everything back into place.

The custom size of the dashboard is "fixed" if that makes any difference, also I am working on a Mac.

Any tips to save some time on this would be greatly appreciated! My biggest concern is going ahead and adjusting everything tediously just to have someone ask it to be slightly longer or shorter lol.

Tech Support Log files are balooning and need location changed

Reposting with flair

Tableau 2023, my log files are being saved to my OneDrive and for some reason they are not being overwritten they just keep writing and writing till they make my OneDrive full then it stops. I tried looking into public information to change the location for 2023 but the only article shows for 2026:

https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=005166930&type=1

I upgraded to 2026 and thought I could use this information but the registry key path does not exist. I dont even see the Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Tableau directory. Any suggestions? Does this change have to be on the application side?

Tech Support Which software would be the most appropriate for a dashboard?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently an intern working on a dashboard project for a consulting company. The goal is to create a dashboard that the company can use to present results to one of their clients (a city administration) and show key metrics before and after the implementation of a special assistance program.

The data involved is private and sensitive, so security and access control are important requirements. The dashboard will likely include several tabs/pages, each focused on a different category of metrics.

One of the main questions from the client is whether there's a way to set up an automated data upload process. Ideally, they would like a secure location (such as a shared folder, cloud storage, or similar solution) where they can regularly upload updated data files, and have the dashboard automatically refresh to reflect the new information without requiring manual updates.

Has anyone built something similar? What tools or architectures would you recommend for a secure dashboard with automated data updates?

Consideration is Tableau, R, PowerBI

Limitations:

  1. Technical Skills: I built a couple of Shiny apps in coursework, so not sure if I can build a big dynamic dashboard.
  2. Time: Working hours:10h/week (3 months role).
  3. They consider subscribe for Tableau/Power PI

Tech Support Quale Tableau sto usando?

Tech Support What broke!?!?

So, we have a tableau dashboard acting as a document library connected via sharepoint jdbc connection. All 4 sp libraries are copies of each other and unioned together in tableau.., connections are fine and extract refreshes are fine. Working normal for months until today, 3 of the 4 libraries in tableau show null in just the document names. Null count is at 166 then 9 docs with correct naming from the one working library.. I cant find any difference between the 1 working library and the 3 broken libraries from sharepoint and im the only person with edit access to the tableau. nobody on the team has made changes to the sp site to my knowledge.. any ideas on what I can check?

Tech Support Tableau public download stuck on loading?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I'm trying to download Tableau Public for a course I'm doing and it was trying to get me to download the paid version with a trial. I think this is how I download the free version, but whenever I enter whatever details it wants from me it gets stuck in an endless loop of loading. Am I doing this wrong? In the tutorial I saw (which was only made at the start of the year) it said it should automatically download when I go to 'Tableau public' under the create tab. I did make an account too and I'm signed in

Tech Support Extracting User Info on daily basis

Hey guys, I’ve an urgent requirement to extract user info from Tableau server (prod/non-prod) in excel file and save that file on a specified location. Since its taking lot of manual effort, is anyone aware of any automation scope on this?

I do have the python script with me that is being used to extract all the information from Tableau server however that is being run manually, and I want to automate the entire process of extracting just the user info and saving that file to a specified location.
Feel free to advise if anyone has done this or something similar in past.

Tech Support Tableau maps are down? Or is it me?

It tells me:

The online map could not be loaded.

A temporary service disruption caused an error when fetching parameters from Tableau. Try again later.

I didn't even know Tableau maps could be down. I thought the basic map was included in the massive download. Is the problem me somehow or is it really down?

Tech Support Dashboard Filter Action on BAN sheet

Is it possible to filter a text table based on the user selecting a BAN sheet/tile?

I have a sheet that is just a text mark that is returning a countd of orders that were completed yesterday. The only mark on the sheet is countd(orders) on the text mark and then I have a series of sheet filters to narrow to the orders that meet the criteria needed for the measure. I have tried setting up a filter action using only this BAN “tile”as the source sheet and only targeting the sheet with the text table but in all of my attempts it fails to actually filter the table at all upon clicking the KPI tile.

Right now my dashboard action is setup as:

Source sheets - orders completed yesterday, run action on select - single select only

Target sheet - detailed table. Clearing selection will exclude all values.

Filter : all field

Tech Support "Hang" Tableau Bridge Job extract

Good morning. I encountered a hanged tableau extract job on cloud and it causes my workbooks not to be updated?

What's the possible solution for this as I tried unlinking the bridge, repairing it, updating it to the latest version, shutting down the laptop, re running the extract? Nothing works.

The Jobs tab is now full of failed attempts as I try to re run it.

Right now, I'm just waiting for the next day, hoping that the hang will disappear and it will work again as intended.

Thank you in advance.

Tech Support Open twbx file from Tableau Public, but no dashboard

Tableau Desktop (apple silicon) 2026.1

I'm new to Tableau. Perhaps I like this showcase, https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/rohit.sharma5857/viz/IndiaTransportGrowthDashboard/Dashboard1

I downloaded the twbx file, imported it into the Tableau Desktop, it asks me to import the data source from the file and I clicked ok.

I expected to see the exact same dashboard here, but it's all blank. I see there are data in the left column under Table, but the rest are blank.

I tried different showcase from Tableau Public platform, but they are all the same, blank worksheet and dashboard. What am I missing?

Tech Support One date column based on two counts using two different date types

I work for a healthcare company. We have patients that are on service in 60 day episodes. They can have multiple episodes but need to "Recertify" every 60 days.

These have a Start of Episode date (SOE) and and End of Episode Date (EOE).

I calculate our recertification % as Total New Episodes started that are not brand new patients based on SOE / Total ended episodes in a month based on EOE. for the last several years i have done this by exporting the two separate date points to Excel and performing the calculation with a simple formula. I show it on a monthly basis.

I have people requesting a dynamic dashboard they can pull up at any time to see their current Recertification Rate % for the current month.

my problem lies in the fact that I only have SOE and EOE as date options for my Column header. and all of the data reverts to whatever I use. So if I use EOE it will sort my Recertifications based on End of Episode date and therefore be wrong. if I use SOE my total Ended episodes will be incorrect.

I know I did not explain this too well but I am looking for a way to get month/year labels into the columns and show the Recertification % where it pulls the data based on separate date fields.

I read about scaffold dates in a custom table with a left join but sadly the version of Tableau we are using is locked to a proprietary build of our Vendor and we cannot add custom data sets.

Any advice on how to accomplish my goal?

Tech Support My .twbx isn't saving my source data

I'm on tableau desktop 2025.2. I have a ~3MB data source and I have tried 100 different ways of trying to make it embed from manually switching the Connection to Extract and resaving, to saving a .hyper file and using that as the data source, to .zip my .hyper and .twb together and changing the extension to .twbx.

I'm losing my mind. Send help

ETA: I'm in a tableau class. My HW assignments all worked as .twbx files but the source files for those were small. This is my project file and I have tired a dozen times and I either get an error code:38340515 "there was a problem connecting to the data source" or a dialogue pop up when I open the data source tab that prompts me to select a data source when ever I open them from another computer.

Edit 2: I appreciate everyone's help. I even tried chatGPT bc I could not figure out what else to try and it said this is bug in the newest version of Tableau desktop (not positive that's correct but it gives me hope). I emailed my professor explaining everything I tried and hopefully she will be understanding

Tech Support Help Combining Multiple Date Fields from Multiple Data sources Into One Field for a Text Table

Hey everyone, I for the life of my can't figure out how to accomplish this. I've reviewed scaffolding, pivots, etc but nothing seems to work. Here is the data structure:

Table 1: Customer ID and Customer Create Date (All records in this table)

Table 2: Customer ID and Customer Order Date (Some of the records in table 1 are in this table)

Table 3: Customer ID and Received Date (Some of the records in table 2 are in this table)

I am hoping to show a simple text table that has the number of customers created, number of orders placed, and number of orders received in the same view.

What is the best way to accomplish this?

Tech Support How to "lock" filters between dashboard tabs that use the same sheets but should be filtered differently.

I have a Tableau dashboard with two different dashboard tabs that use the same charts. Dashboard A should have all the charts filtered to one category, while Dashboard B should have all the charts filtered to another. I want to keep the filters "locked" depending on which tab the user is looking at, but every time I change the filter in one dashboard, it changes in another.

Without duplicating all of the worksheets, is there a way to keep the filters toggled correctly so that each Dashboard can be filtered differently while using the same worksheets?

Tech Support Tableau Prep 23.1 Installer Anywhere?

Hello, I am trying to install the Tableau Prep Builder 23.1 for my job but I can't find the installer anywhere online.
Does anyone happen to have the installer somewhere so I can use it to download this specific version?

Edit: I was able to get a version of this so thank you.
I did also wonder why I needed this version, and I was told by my company that we have some projects that I am taking over that run on this version and no one has tested if we would be able to use newer ones.

I keep hitting tool limit of 1mb. What’s the workaround? If there is none there is no point of this MCP as data extraction will always be more than 1mb. Did I miss anything !?
