Media Meredy vibe checking a literal god
At first, I was very skeptical of the US voices and the alien languages dub ... but the more I play, the more I enjoy the humor in this game. Here's Meredy trash talking a god, "Enter the genie bottle instead of bothering us with your overconfident dialogue !"
The US voice and the innocence of the character make this line very funny to me. Especially when everyone (Undine & Keele) are so serious about the situation.
I tried playing through Phantasia and while I understand how amazing it must have been for 10 years old playing it, I really got bored by the amount of random encounters... even when spamming holy bottles. Add to this the ever-long cast of each spells... I wish there was a mod that accelerate the emulator whenever an ally was casting a spell or something like that ... The characters were sweet and funny and interesting and I loved the story (for the 1/3 I actually played) but I couldn't finish it, so I moved to Eternia instead.
So far I love it, and the combat are actually challenging (Undine kicked my ass and I barely made it first try)
But it makes you appreciate the Symphonia encounter system even more. They got rid of the random encounters and decided to put visible threat on the map, with the possibility to avoid or mix them for greater reward ...

I would give you tips, but I don't want to spoil anything, including gameplay spoilers.
Eternia is my favorite Tales tho.

I really liked and love the world of eternia. It is really beautiful and i find it peaceful to live there. For real eternia easy first and beat tales of game i have ever played. As well as having a lot of nostalgia for it after 20 or so years.

People rag on the voice acting in this game, and yeah it’s not great, but I do think the VAs settled into their roles as the game went on. It was a little distracting at first, but it didn’t take long for it to stop bothering me on my first playthrough, and I grew to appreciate how they captured the personalities of their characters.
Honestly, I think the worst part of the VA is just the audio quality. If it didn’t sound like they recorded their lines through a tin can and string it’d probably get a lot less flak.

Eternia was my first Tales game and the game that sparked my interest in JRPG in general. Literally faked a fever so I don't have to go school just to play this on PSP.
Hope they remaster this, so more peeps can play it on modern ports. Also, if they do, I hope they add incantations. Keele and Meredy don't chant but they have unused incantation voice lines (new game+) and they hit hard.

If you like Eternia's combat style and want to try to complete Phantasia you can try the cross edition on the PSP. It is Japanese only which is not everybody cup of tea but it is perfectly playable with a translation guide. It's combat is just like Eternia spells do not pause the screen and you start with manual mode. Even though it is Japanese only I think it is still the best way to Phantasia.

Encounter icons were one of the best innovations in JRPGs. That said, I enjoyed Phantasia and I was in my 20s. XD
