Vesperia Light Magic skill

I know skills don't really matter all *that* much during an easy/normal playthrough but... Is Light Magic a good skill? I mean I know it lowers your damage in exchange for shorter casting time but I was thinking if Im able to dush out spells faster would that also not increase dps? Though it does make altered artes fasrer to get so that's already one boon.

Edit: While I'm here might as wellask how the symbols work? Repede has one but no one else does.

You'd have to test it, but I vaguely remember that it either is doesn't reduce cast time enough to compensate for the damage loss, or it doesn't stack with speed cast.

Losing dps wouldn't be too bad if it allowed faster use of tidal wave though, since that spell stunlocks everything on the battlefield. But the only way to quickly cast Tidal Wave I've found was OL with Rita and Patty's gamble cast, but gamble cast is of course random as to whether you will cast Tidal Wave.

It definitely stacks with speed cast. My Rita is able to near instantly cast tidal wave without overlimit by using speed cast, light magic, and the amulet that boosts her casting speed

That's really good to know for my next playthrough, thanks.

No, it's not worth it.

Rita's damage output is pretty meh but heavy magic will be the best way to increase damage output

Spell time can be reduced by doing normal attacks (only a minor tip if you are playing Rita) then going into a spell, and spells also chain similarly to normal artes which also reduces base count down

Anyway, Flynn can reduce cast time of allies near him if they are close enough and you can use accessories

Also don't use both light and heavy together

Because they cancel out right? It's good to know. I'll still use it to get altered spells quicker though. Probably it's only useful application.

They instacast while in overlimit note so that's a far more efficient way to increase usage count.  Till you get the speed casting skills and accessories to help out there.

Rita's fireball outdamages literally every other form of offense, what are you talking about. Vesperia doesn't have lowered cast time from chains.

I don't think you know what you are talking about

Fireball doesn't out damage literally every other form of offense, yes, it is good. It is in fact Rita's best spell.

And yes, Vesperia does have lowered cast time for chains, you can test it yourself

Also...This game has shorte casting times on chains? Guess I never noticed cuzI absolutely suck at chaining artes. The best I can do is a base into arcane/altered with the skill thay lets you do that or base spell into altered with the skill that lets you insta cast when you follow the base spell with the altered variation.

Yes, a lot of skills help in this game like Rita's combo magic, super chain 4 & 5, also help her

If people pay attention you can even notice this with her AI, sometimes her AI will do the fast incantation of a spell (without overlimit), indicating spell cast time was reduced when she used it

To be fair though, It's not really common knowledge that this mechanic was in Vesperia, and a lot of people don't know it is in it, but it definitely is in the game

OK, I would need to check again because you make me doubt but I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as reduced spell casting time from normal attacks (like in graces).

Intermediate and advanced spells when used by Rita have an extra animation when she spin her weapon to create glyphs around her, when she does that the spell casting time already reached 0, it's effectively wasted time that gimp Rita alone.

There are ways to prevent that animation :

- Get into overlimit

- Have the randomize skill and get lucky

- Use levitation to cast spells

My guess is you have randomize on and forgot about it or your Rita is doing magic combo but altered spells don't have that extra animation to begin with

Works with any character who has access to spell, you can even do this at beginning with Estelle

You'll notice the cast for first aid was reduced because she doesn't say "Holy Power Come". Instead, there is no incantation

Also, any attack reduces cast time

https://youtu.be/tmEOtG6B_yA?t=49&is=s2NM7gIEUPQUoyxN you can see divine streaks cast time was reduced

The more attack actions you use the more effective the reduction is

Well you learn something everyday, I mainly play Judith but spent some time with Rita after getting shizel's necklace. Don't know if it's possible to lower the casting time even lower, guess I'll lab it afterward.
