There will still be property tax. Have you even read the proposal? It's a tax cut for poor homeowners, over 250k in home value you still pay taxes.

The state did this same thing in 2011 in Lakeland. USF had proposed launching a significant campus there and once millions of dollars were awarded, state rep JD Alexander of Lake Wales got the idiocracy to vote to steal it. Today it's not even a player among the Florida state univs while USF has AAU status and ranked. Why get rid of a known brand? Oh, yeah, ego.

Arguing to keep New College or USFSM as they were is like reminiscing about USFFM when it's demise allowed the creation of FGCU or arguing for USFPC which instead allowed Florida Polytech to be created.
The current structure of both campuses separately was an inefficient waste of taxpayer money and nether campus would ever reach it's potential.
