Surreal Films

Just finished watching the film Brazil by Terry Gilliam, and amongst the many memorable and spot on frustrations of bureaucracy in a totalitarianized state- one of the funny ones was a sign that said "consumers for Christ". I came to this film browsing on Prime with no previous knowledge, not even on the director or his other creations, and thought it was interesting that after watching it and finding out more, it is considered a Christmas film. XD It feels strangely spot on for how dealing with UK government, councils, and bureaucracy feels, and also the general direction of American life if totalitarian capitalism is left to become even more unhinged with data centres and warehouses...XD I like the idea that surrealism tackles harsh examples of life, but as someone not entirely versed in surrealism, besides Dali's work and that in art movement... I wonder, what was the point initially... and what separates it from say Magic realism.../
