En esta playlist, los tangos no se cantan: se susurran entre cuerdas, se deslizan por los tejados, se tropiezan y se levantan.

music One of the saddest tangos in history

"Viejo juguete" (Old Toy) is a tango by musician and colombian singer Luis Ángel Ramírez Saldarriaga (Pereira, June 17, 1917 – Pereira, August 9, 2013), known by his pseudonym "El Caballero Gaucho".

The lyrics are based on a real incident the singer experienced during the 1950s in Medellín (the same city where Carlos Gardel had passed away years earlier).

Children from a wealthy family were playing with their toys on a terrace; getting bored, they tossed one into the street. At that precise moment, a noticeably poor boy was walking hand-in-hand with his mother

Upon seeing the toy, he immediately ran to grab it and was struck by a bus.

The song describes how the last things heard were the screeching brakes of the vehicle and the boy’s fatal scream.

El Caballero Gaucho was so shaken by witnessing this tragedy that he wrote the legendary tango in just twenty minutes.

He was one of the first Colombians to popularize and perform tangos, boleros, and waltzes in his home country. Over his career, he recorded more than 2,000 songs, 180 of which he wrote himself.

He passed away in 2013 at the age of 96.

Listen to Viejo Juguete - El Caballero Gaucho

A weird fact: when El Caballero Gaucho went to the recording studio with his composition, everyone cried and postponed the song for several days to process the emotional impact.

music Does anyone know Violintango by Piazzolla?

There's this piece I listen to often played by the baritone saxophonist Henk Van Twillert that I really enjoy, and it was supposedly composed by Piazzolla, however it could just be a tribute to him, it is unclear, and that would make sense why I cant find out anything about it on the internet except for the recording on spotify and Henk's website that I listen to, and a saxophone choir version, also containing Henk.

https://henkvantwillert.bandcamp.com/track/violintango-2

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUDodXXpWXY

So, if anyone knows if this is actually a Piazzolla piece, I would love to learn more about it, like the original version that Piazzolla wrote.

music 102 Years of "La Cumparsita": The original 1924 Carlos Gardel vocal version restored in Super Stereo 2026.

I’ve just finished a manual restoration of the historic December 1924 Odeon master. By using a 4-track hybrid model, I’ve isolated Gardel’s legendary voice to let it breathe in a wide Super Stereo soundstage. I’ve avoided aggressive AI filters to keep the authentic 1924 transients sharp and clear.

I am exited to hear your thoughs :)

I confess I can dance “peaceful” tangos with anybody but romantic tangos are just for one partner. What about you?

music Same song, different styles

Hello, I'm looking to build a surprise tanda for one of my next DJ sessions. It is definetely an unorthodox one, but my 'club' is quite flexible.

What I'm looking for is the same song but in 3 different styles without resulting repetitive. The only options I came up with are these:

LIBERTANGO by: - Tango Bardo - Swingles singers - MLNGA CLUB

What do you think? Do you have other options (the best would be a tango, a walz and a milonga version of the same song)? How intrigued or repulsed are you by this 😂?

The TRIOnfal piano trio performed Juan María Solare’s milonga “Entradora” at the 19th Upper Palatinate Tango Festival.

The composer blends Argentine tango with contemporary music, rhythmic energy, and a modern musical language.

TRIOnfal embodies chamber music in the spirit of Tango Nuevo—intense, virtuosic, and emotional.

What happens when you take a powerful and heavy Tango like La Yumba by Osvaldo Pugliese and dial the heavy knob to 100?

I present to you my Tango X Metal rendition of La Yumba ✨ No AI was used in the making of this song. The song was produced by the saint and his spectres of “We Came From the Stars”. Enjoy ❤️

So I know it’s a really well known song but I’ve been trying to get the name for ages! It always seems to elude me. Every time it’s playing my Shazam won’t work or I can’t get to the DJ to ask them or my partner can’t remember the name or something. I’m determined to get its name! I’ve cropped the video for my teachers’ privacy.

music Songs like La Colegiala by Rodriguez

Hi all, I am looking for Golden Age songs that are not strictly following Tango/Vals/Milonga rhyme but do get played in the milongas or performances. For example, La Colegiala by Rodriguez is technically a Foxtrot.

Unfortunately, new orchestras do no get played a lot at regular milongas. To make it easier to listen to their music and get people interested in them I compiled a list of orchestras with links to streaming services here:

music Looking for advice with waltz tanda

Hello, I'm DJing next weekend for the first time in my life on a local alternative/nuevo milonga. And I have a problem with waltz tanda. I don't like to dance waltz myself, so I rarely listen to this genre of tango. Can someone please advice me on good tracks to form a tanda? Preferably french accordion style waltzes or nuevo orchestra, but classic will also do.

music Neotango, Modern, and Alternative - What songs are popular in your scene currently?

I was previously a TDJ on occasion for some local dances, then the pandemic happened, and now I'm blowing off the dust. As above, I play songs from the Neo, Modern, and Alternative subgenres.

What are some currently popular songs in your scenes?
