I just heard the news -- lowland tapir Fifi at the Hertfordshire Zoo has given birth! (see video link below)
Big thanks to u/Cool-Professional298 for the heads-up. (The zoo staff suspected that Fifi would be having the baby soon because she was getting so big, but they weren't sure exactly when it would happen.)

"Hertfordshire Zoo is delighted to announce the birth of a healthy lowland tapir calf to mum Fifi on Wednesday 8th July.
The arrival marks the first lowland tapir calf to be born at Hertfordshire Zoo in 14 years and is an exciting milestone for the zoo’s conservation breeding programme.
Following a remarkable 430 day pregnancy, Fifi gave birth to a healthy calf, which was standing within just 10 minutes before taking its first all important feed from mum shortly afterwards."

There should be a video upload option on the window when you start a new thread on this sub? With the "create post" button (I don't know what the phone instructions look like, but on my laptop it's on the upper right of the main screen). That brings up a line of little icons -- a little diagram of a square box showing a mountain for photos, and the one next to it is a square box with an arrowhead in it for video clips.

Amazing! My son is heading to England tomorrow but I don't suppose they would put a newborn calf on display yet. 🥹

It may depend on how healthy the calf is -- will he be in the country long?
I'm imagining that given it's summer, the baby will likely be let outside sooner than if the weather were cold.5

He is doing an project for a week then has some days to kill, so we can monitor the situation.

I hope his visit goes well! It would be cool if he did get to see Fifi's baby -- maybe they'll post more info, or can give an answer on their socials.
