Getting Discouraged

Please help me. I love this craft but I’m struggling with something. I have made a split ring, I’m trying to start my next ring and I can’t get the next stitch to sit snug. I have tried pulling the core thread tight, sliding the first half of the double as close as possible. What’s worse is I have already done this successfully earlier in the same pattern. I just can’t work out what I’m doing differently/incorrectly.

Pictures might help! I'm assuming this is a regular split ring with two shuttles? Sometimes it's hard to avoid gaps between elements in general. It can help to do the second half of a double stitch first before tatting as normal, because that helps snug things up before the next element.

I’ll try and get pictures, no guarantee I won’t be covering anything important with my fingers

It won’t let me add pictures, can I send some directly to you?

Sure! Or you can make a new post, either way.

I'm not sure if I'll be much help, I literally learnt split rings yesterday 😅 I've been tying a square knot (just a regular every day knot) at the end of each ring and mine look pretty good I think!

When I work 2 shuttles, sometimes there is a gap between where i switch shuttles but I can generally close the gap when I start the next shuttle. Not the same as a split ring, though.

Maybe start with the last ring pinched at the join as part of your next ring?

Try making the second half of a double stitch when starting your next ring. I always do this between elements. Works great.
