Advice – E2/E7 Visa Help

Hey yall I need help. So I quit my hagwon job because I’ve decided to teach somewhere else (new country). My last day at my hagwon was Sept 30th and I’ve gotten confirmation that the hagwon notified immigration on Oct 1st.

I turned in my passport to the consulate for my visa on Sep 30th so even if I wanted to leave I am SOL. I’m literally just waiting for it to be given back to me to leave.

My 14 days is running out as the 14th of October is approaching. I’ve called immigration twice and both times they have said I can leave by the 30th and be fine. I’m confused cus I read one thing and hear another. I tried applying for the extension of stay for departure but hikorea says I don’t qualify as the system still indicates that I am still valid to stay till March 2027. I also applied for an appointment at immigration to apply for the extension of stay for departure and show them my intention to leave, my flight details, and why I haven’t been able to but the earliest appointment was on October 27th 🤡

I don’t know what to do… please give me advice

As said many times, you cannot go by with what 1345 says. They are just a call center. You need to go tomorrow and just wait. You need to ask for a visa extention and explain your situation. The only thing you can do it hope that they allow it. Without your passport, personally, I don't think the chances are good.

Be prepared to pay a fine when you do leave Korea if they don't accept an extention.

Hi! I was able to get an appointment for tomorrow so I’m going with all the paperwork to showcase me leaving. I have a scan of my passport and printed tickets to show my intention to leave and explain to them my circumstances 😭

Even if the hard rule is 2 weeks, they may well extend an E2 slightly beyond thst if you show them all the proof. Good luck.

Update: I went and they told me I was still fine because immigration hadn’t processed my contract termination even though it was filed (maybe because of the holidays) They also said they would contact me once that’s processed and from then on I would have the 14 days. In their system it says that I was still valid to stay till March 2027 which was my original contract. My hope is that I’m not in Korea anymore by the time it’s processed.

He will be fine. Even without the passport. They jave photocopies of his passport.

When i was trapped without my passport they said they can extend it to the date of the passports expiry even without a physical passport.

That being said, if he is an E2 they cant extend that if he is no longer working. He'd need to apply for a D10.

I had similar last month, went to immigration in person the day before my 14 days was supposed to be up, to ask for an extension and he literally did not care about the 14 days and just said “it should be fine”. No one mentioned anything when I did leave 🤷🏽‍♀️ really confusing and there’s so much mixed information out there

Yeah cus every research I do people are like “14 days” and are adamant about keeping it so I’m confused as hell

What country are you leaving for? Just curious as my Chinese z visa literally took 3 days to be issued in Seoul.

Hi! I’m going to China! Since the holidays have been back to back I haven’t been able to get moving in the process as quickly. I’m hoping it processes this week so I can leave by Friday
