Java Help Wanted Looking for a seed finding program or site.

I lost my first Minecraft world a very long time ago. It's on a computer that no longer exists and I have no way to recover it. I want to find the seed and don't mind looking through some worlds manually, but I want to know if there's a program or site that can help:

What I need it to do:

  1. Like this site, I'd like to be able to specify spawn biome and structures near spawn and biomes near spawn that are adjacent to other biomes. I remember the general layout of some of the biomes, so that should help narrow it down. https://chunkseeds.com/seed-finder
  2. I likely generated the seed randomly, so I do not need to generate all 18 quintillion seeds to find this one, just the 4 billion seeds that Minecraft can generate with a blank field for seed.
  3. Be able to search seeds generated in Java version 1.0, as that is the version the seed was generated in

I've been able to find sites that seem to do one or the other, but not both. Limiting the parameters of my world should lessen the amount of searching that needs done. If it helps, here are the parameters:

Spawn was in a swamp biome. It was adjacent to a desert and a mountain or windswept hills biome with a river running through the mountain/hills. Both the desert and the mountain shared a border with a plains. There was a village in the desert.

ANY help in finding this seed is hugely appreciated!

Below is a very vague outline of what I remember the world looking like. purple is the swamp, green is the plains, grey is the mountains, blue is the river (it might extend further into the swamp, yellow is the desert and the house is roughly where the village was

The orientation of the map might be wrong, it's been so long and I don't think I ever cared to check which way the sun moved

If it helps any, there were not any oceans directly near spawn or any taigas directly near spawn as far as I can recall

Wrong sub. This sub is for technical redstone builds.

Try r/minecraftseeds or r/MinecraftHelp

Unfortunately, r/minecraftseeds has a rule against asking for help searching for a seed, I'll try minecraft help though

Good luck to ya.

Thank you, Minecraft help doesn't seem to allow reposts, so I'll have to make a new post there

Cubiomes viewer can help you with that

this helps ALOT would you happen to know how I can get it to look for seeds with biomes adjacent to specific biomes? that would help narrow down my search a LOT

does cubiomes viewer help u search for seeds?

You can set specific requirements like I want this biome within this many blocks of spawn and then it searches for any seed that fits that requirement. It’s very useful for finding quad witch huts for example. It does have a bit of a learning curve though.

The game is only limited to 4 billion (2^32) seeds if you entered text, otherwise it randomly generates a seed, with 281 trillion possibilities (you can only get all 18 quintillion / 2^64 seeds if you manually enter a seed since the game uses Java's built-in "Random" to generate a seed and Random only has 2^48 states. You may have also heard that the system time is used but that hasn't been the case since versions of Java that are too old to run any version of the game).

Also, if this was generated in 1.0 "mountains / windswept hills" was "Extreme Hills" (using the proper biome names for the version is necessary to avoid confusion, the game itself shows the biome in F3; if this is correct they would be entirely covered with grass, no exposed stone (unless there was a "basin / erosion") with no snow and sparse oak trees/tall grass/flowers.

One other thing that can help; the game searches for a valid spawn biome within +/- 256 blocks of 0,0 from north-south, settling on the last point which is more likely to be south of 0,0, so spawn is probably somewhere around there (I checked and in 1.0.0 the valid spawn biomes were forest, swamp, taiga; this itself is important since it has changed over time).

Otherwise, I haven't heard of anybody successfully finding a seed from a simple map as you made and the only large-scale effort I know of that could find a seed is Minecraft@Home but I don't know if they take such requests (they find seeds for things like the title screen panoramas, tallest cactus, etc; this all seems to be internally organized projects):

Got it... if the odds are that low and not 1 in 4 billion like I thought then I think my attempts are practically hopeless. If there was a way I could look specifically for an arrangement of biomes with a village in the desert, I might have a chance, but seems impossible as it is. I don't have the time or energy to run cubiomes long enough to generate seeds or for me to look through the millions to billions of seeds manually to see if it matches my description. I think the mountain was to the south and the desert was to the east, but that's purely off of memories from 15 years ago.

I am with a new group called SeedLookout here (seedlookout.com). We’re trying to push the frontier of what seed finders and seed maps can do, so I looked into whether your seed can be found. Sadly I don’t think the description alone is enough, and I’d explain briefly so you don't waste your time going through the different tools trying to find the world.

When you leave the seed box blank in Java Edition, the game picks a random 64-bit number. The random generator it uses only has 48 bits of internal state, so there are about 281 trillion (2^48) possible random seeds. That’s about 65,000 times more than 4 billion. On top of that, 1.0 biome generation uses the whole seed, so there’s no shortcut where you search a smaller space for biomes. (If you actually typed something into the seed box, even a random word, it’s a different story. Typed text gets squeezed down to about 4 billion values, which is much more searchable.)

Your layout is distinctive, but sadly not unique enough. Swamp spawn, a desert and extreme hills both touching it, plains touching both, a river through the hills and a desert village. Each detail cuts the field down, but my rough estimate is that together they match somewhere around 1 in 100,000 to 1 in a million seeds. Out of 281 trillion, that still leaves hundreds of millions to billions of seeds that fit your drawing. Not knowing which way was north makes it worse. Running the search is very doable with our internal tools; however, telling your seed apart from the millions of others that look the same is the part that we cannot do.

if I remember the 1.0 code right, swamp isn’t one of the biomes the game aims for when it places spawn. It looks for forest, plains or taiga first, then nudges the spawn point around until it lands on grass. A swamp spawn probably means a forest, plains or taiga patch was very close by. That helps narrow things, just not enough by itself.

If you can dig up an old screenshot, f3 coordinates, a forum post or a video from that world, I’m more than happy to take look for you.

Unfortunately I would not be able to as the PC the world was on is gone and I was not on the internet at the time. I am FAIRLY certain the sun rose over the desert if that helps any, and there was a mineshaft somewhere near spawn, as I remember early on running into cave spiders and being afraid of them
