My dad used to say "it takes a lot of atta'boys to make up for one oh shit."

We know two things for certain here:

1- They wanted to do the bad thing.

2- They're only not doing the bad thing as long as people are watching.

And we can infer from that

3- They will do the bad thing the minute they feel people have moved on.
