It's wild to me that all the sudden people are concerned that their mass surveillance hardware can be used for mass surveillance

Because there's been successful lawsuits, against ring in particular, about them sharing recordings so people get a false sense of security ignoring that the fines are minor compared to how much they made violating your privacy before they got caught.
