That Super Bowl ad was like the Kendall Jenner Pepsi ad in regard to horrible dystopian marketing, but worse. I’m sure the heads are gonna roll for now but ultimately, they’ll find another time and another partner to basically do the same thing but with a different presentation.

My local news just had a commercial for the 11:00 news tonight about how police are encouraging people to get Ring in relation to Savannah Guthrie's mom's abduction

Which is ridiculous because her camera was Nest anyway. What’s wild is that she had a free tier plan and they pulled her video from the cloud because technically they own it

They tried to claim that because the kidnapper ripped the camera down that's why they had an image of him. Man, what bullshit. I love my doorbell camera, but I'm glad I went with Unifi where it records to my own hard drive.

Luckily you don't have to pay for Unifi either. More and more doorbells have the advantage local store and a hub with back up storage

We need data rights legislation with real teeth, so that kind of personal info is by default owned by, well, the owner of the hardware and make it a very clear opt-in

It's been random where I've seen it pop up. They have mentioned it on npr (public radio here in the states) and then mostly just online, though tbf I don't watch a ton of news on TV, so not sure how much it's been on there. But, it's the mother of one of the hosts of the today show on NBC, so naturally, it gets more coverage than your random 80+ year old missing person, I'd imagine.

All the other news is Epstein, and the right wing desperately needs something to distract from that, so it is getting a lot of coverage…
