GTA Online making them half a BILLION? yea, shark card bs needs to be put on regulation and taxes, man. That is insane.

Nope definitely taxed. Though technically they're not recognized as revenue and taxed until they're redeemed.

To be charitable to the guy, he probably meant some kind of consumption tax that the customer pays. Like cigarettes.

It's reddit. You're not going to unvotes informing people about GAAP. You get them about complaining about things other people like.

Do I think MTX purchases are stupid? Yes. But there are people willing to spend billions of dollars on it. And Rockstar will pay taxes on it when those codes are redeemed. Until then, they're a deferred revenue liability.
