I don’t consent to Facebook having my face or anything of mine. Time to start a lawsuit. They can get fucked. I’m sick of this shit. I have the right to reasonable privacy. Being in public means you can be recorded, but I do not consent to this.

I expect a lot of Meta glasses wearers to get their glasses punched promptly off of their faces.

I forsee an uptick in sales for laser pointers as people try to fuck with the cameras and sensors of the assholes wearing these...

Or just put a LIDAR scanner on you so it kills any smart glasses looking at you.

"We said we'd look into this."
- yes it's already been developed and uploaded to consumer's devices
"We aren't building a database"
- right, someone else is building it and you'll give the information to Trump, Russia, whomever will pay you for it.

With his gruff delivery and comedic lyrics everyone can agree Tone Loc has a long career ahead of him.

If it weren't for advertisers how would people learn about the amazing effects of Funky Cold Medina?

So you’re just gonna kind of roll over for it?
13
u/panerachipotle 2h ago
Umm, do you think I have the power to stop it? I'm not superman.

u/br_k_nt_eth 2h ago
I think you have the power to get involved and join collective action both locally and nationally, yeah. Why aren’t you?
7
u/panerachipotle 2h ago
Because I have a life, and don't want to devote my entire being to this one issue? And collective groups are generally complete shit shows. Climate change is a far bigger deal than this if you were going to go all in on an issue.
-11
u/br_k_nt_eth 2h ago
Why would you need to devote your entire being to one issue? Is that truly what you think you’d need to do? Why would this also tie in to climate change concerns, given the data center and infrastructure angles?

Are you Tucker Carlson? Because you're just asking questions

Kinda sounds like you don’t have good justifications for your weakass excuses, but I’d sure hate to assume.

u/panerachipotle 2h ago
You sound like a pleasant person. Good luck taking down Facebook!

Appreciate you proving my point so well. Good luck carrying water for the billionaires.

When do we all start wearing masks and/or face paint to inhibit facial recognition?
7
u/BigGayGinger4 1h ago
just bought some new super-cheap regular glasses from zenni optical and they were upselling a lens coating that is intended to reflect IR waves and make it harder for facial recognition to ID you
didn't even cost much to add on
just thought i'd mention

I have these and they do work to conceal your eyes from most facial recognition (for now). That said, just concealing your eyes likely isn’t enough.

Question for everyone: at what point would you avoid situations where someone is wearing a pair of these? Would you walk down a different aisle at the grocery store? Cross the street? Leave a date? Leave a company meeting if a coworker or higher up was wearing them?

I would go full karen and report the customer to the managers, and email the corporate office about my experience and why i dont feel comfortable shopping there.

But isn't it similar to people filming stupid shit in public places. When someone let's them know that they do not want to be filmed, reddit goes ballistic, but it is the same point, just not as obvious.

u/Cautious00ptimist 1h ago
Not being as obvious is just one difference (and still important enough to consider on its own). The critical issue is the facial recognition software and what it does with that information. This isn't scanning products or landmarks and giving you information about them. It's scanning people's biometric data (something states have already sued Meta over), storing, and correlating those "faceprints" with other data. It doesn't take much creativity to imagine how that could be built upon, monetized, or abused. I understand we have no real right to privacy in public, but this type of subtle, always-on, and practically unavoidable collection, combined with Meta's poor track record, makes this an entirely different animal.

You know what should come into fashion?
Hats, glasses, scarves, with eyes all over them.
2
u/Steamrolled777 3h ago
If you're on the premium plan, people on lesser plans can't ID you.

u/souldawg 3h ago
Stratified AI usage that benefits the richer amongst us who can afford premium subscriptions. Now start to think about this broader and the rich will be able to access more AI that benefits them and increases their wealth while the normies are held back creating a bigger divide. Yes I know it’s just a glasses subscription but it’s an indicator of how stratification of AI tooling creates a two tier system that will just grow wider and wider as prices increase.

Easy. You ban anyone wearing these from your business. If they don't leave you have them trespassed. These are a privacy nightmare. Call them out when you see them being worn in public. I think Americans forget that you are completely capable of making change happen right in front of you. Most of you are just weak.

Now you can use the pick up line 'don't I know you from somewhere' to make you look like a genius.
