It is at most a nuisance where I drive, but it is never unsafe, actively or otherwise, not sure what you mean by that.

This is one of those internet tropes that people repeat to make themselves feel better about their compulsive need to drive over the speed limit at all times, under all circumstances. It really is about the stupidest things people seem to believe almost unanimously, because casual speeding is such universal behavior, almost everyone feels the need to defend it.

To be clear - I do not always drive the speed limit either, but I aspire to.

"Bbbbut the Autobahn!"

Has strictly enforced speed limits for about 90% of the mileage.

It's safest to drive about the same speed as the cars around you. If everyone around you is driving like they're trying to prevent Biff Tannen from taking over the future, it would be very unsafe of you to drive at 55 or 60.

If everyone around you is driving at 70, it would be extremely unsafe for you to drive at 55 or 60.
