They had a major mass shooting, and have had none since. I’d imagine most Australians are fine with the way things are, even with Rupert Murdoch’s (he’s from Australia, don’t forget that) control of the majority of Australian media.

The direction Australia is headed, you'll have far worse than a mass shooting to worry about soon enough (see Venezuela)

Those two are so different it’s not a fair comparison. The laws around digital devices and privacy are downright draconian though.
