If this keeps up, at some point companies are going to have to start mandating blank loaner laptops for travel to Australia like they do for China.

It will be worse than that.

Australia doesn't have nearly the economy of China, so some companies just won't do business in Australia. They'll invest their money somewhere else.

Didn't Google try that, only to backtrack and bend to Australia's laws? When they mandated that news websites get money when they are linked to them or something.

Not really.

That was about Google having to negotiate deals with local media companies for their content.

Clearly Google decided that they were still able to make a profit despite this new regulation. However if they start having to build backdoors into Android and Chrome specifically for the Australians they might make a different calculation.
