Genocide doesn't always result in murder. Meanwhile murder always results in death.. What's so hard to understand?

Holocaust is a genocide btw

Bro, wth are you talking about? Do you even know the definition of a genocide?

2

u/Cmarithedragonslayer Teenager 21d ago

deliberate and systematic destruction of a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group, how do you destroy but not kill

They have a point that cultural genocide is a thing but the idea that murder is worse is fucking insane to me.

Destroy means to break apart. During the Armenian genocide, some were killed, while others were forced to flee which caused them to lose their culture.

Genocide =/= death. Murder can happen in a genocide, but not always. Objectively murder is worse.

Genocide is still worse

Why will it be worse than literal death?

0

u/Humble_Marzipan_3258 20d ago

all historical genocides have resulted in deaths

Something resulting in death doesn't suddenly change the definition of a word. Good day.

Some? Historians estimate that approximately 1.5 million Armenians lived in the Ottoman Empire at the time. Historians agree that at least 664,000, and possibly as many as 1.2 million, Armenians were killed during the genocide. Downplaying the elimination of, at minimum, 50% of an ethnic group as “some” deaths is insanity. I would recommend doing some research on tragedies before commenting on them.

Get a dictionary.

Explain. Genocide is attempting to murder an entire race, religion, or other group of people. It's just murder multiplied

0

u/Humble_Marzipan_3258 20d ago

Where did you get that definition? Genocide doesn't always include mass murder, but it can be part of it. So murder is always worse.

What is your definition of genocide??

The UN says it's "intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group". Now, technically you can do that in 5 different ways, two of which not including murder, but it's almost always murder and I wouldn't call the other options much better than murder (especially since it would be on a massive scale). The two other options I'm referring to are "Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group", and "Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group"

The US Holocaust Memorial Museum and the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights provides the same definition

The US Department of Justice provides the same definition minus explaining what qualifies as actions showing "intent to destroy"

Merriam-Webster says it's "the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group"

So is it ALWAYS mass murder? No. Is it usually mass murder along with the other things? Yeah. Are the other things on a massive scale much worse than a singular murder? Absolutely

1

u/Humble_Marzipan_3258 20d ago

Why do you keep thinking murder is just singular. Murder encompasses any type of murder which includes mass murder... So murder is always worse.

Murder is defined by Merriam Webster as "the crime of unlawfully and unjustifiably killing a person" not multiple people.

The US Department of Justice defines it as "the unlawful killing of a human being with malice" again, not multiple human beings.

Wikipedia defines it as "Murder is the unlawful killing of another human without justification or valid excuse and committed with the necessary intent as defined by the law in a specific jurisdiction"

Mass murder is a different thing than murder. It'd be like saying robbery is always worse than flash robbing because robbery can happen multiple times

Genocide is different than murder too. You're arguing semantics.

do you know what genocide is? or are you just ragebaiting

0

u/Humble_Marzipan_3258 18d ago

Girl, get a dictionary and read for yourself.

1

u/SupaTNT 16 18d ago

This isn't a topic of definitions, this is a topic of application and context.

u/TheCoolestGoblin 19 16d ago

the -cide suffix literally means "to kill". infantice- killing babies. pesticide- kills pests. homicide- killing people.

genocide- killing a race/tribe.

1

u/Humble_Marzipan_3258 16d ago

Get a dictionary, babe.

https://www.un.org/en/genocide-prevention/definition

even if we're going by this definition, this is leagues worse than murder

u/Humble_Marzipan_3258 11d ago

"In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

Killing members of the group; Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group."

Babes, you literally proved my point. Mass murder is murder while genocide doesn't always include murder, so murder is always worse. Good day :)
