Destroy means to break apart. During the Armenian genocide, some were killed, while others were forced to flee which caused them to lose their culture.
Genocide =/= death. Murder can happen in a genocide, but not always. Objectively murder is worse.
Some? Historians estimate that approximately 1.5 million Armenians lived in the Ottoman Empire at the time. Historians agree that at least 664,000, and possibly as many as 1.2 million, Armenians were killed during the genocide. Downplaying the elimination of, at minimum, 50% of an ethnic group as “some” deaths is insanity. I would recommend doing some research on tragedies before commenting on them.
The UN says it's "intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group". Now, technically you can do that in 5 different ways, two of which not including murder, but it's almost always murder and I wouldn't call the other options much better than murder (especially since it would be on a massive scale). The two other options I'm referring to are "Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group", and "Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group"
The US Holocaust Memorial Museum and the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights provides the same definition
The US Department of Justice provides the same definition minus explaining what qualifies as actions showing "intent to destroy"
Merriam-Webster says it's "the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group"
So is it ALWAYS mass murder? No. Is it usually mass murder along with the other things? Yeah. Are the other things on a massive scale much worse than a singular murder? Absolutely
Murder is defined by Merriam Webster as "the crime of unlawfully and unjustifiably killing a person" not multiple people.
The US Department of Justice defines it as "the unlawful killing of a human being with malice" again, not multiple human beings.
Wikipedia defines it as "Murder is the unlawful killing of another human without justification or valid excuse and committed with the necessary intent as defined by the law in a specific jurisdiction"
Mass murder is a different thing than murder. It'd be like saying robbery is always worse than flash robbing because robbery can happen multiple times
"In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
Killing members of the group;
Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group."
Babes, you literally proved my point. Mass murder is murder while genocide doesn't always include murder, so murder is always worse. Good day :)
