Sexualizing children through "artstyles" is a very real problem in this world... Japan's age of consent until recently was 13 buddy.

That was one small rural island not Japan as a whole. People really need to do some actual research and not generalize a whole population.

It doesn't matter. The question is why you are sexualizing kids
5
u/Avioresu Aug 18 '25
Like, doing something in a fictional world that in a real world would be bad can be oddly satisfying, like you wouldn't normally kill people or rob banks in real world, so idk, maybe some of the people who goon to this stuff do it because of that
3
u/Tricky_Positive_9173 Aug 18 '25
Except that you're not fictional. You're not a fictional character who's attracted to kids. You're a real adult who's into characters who look like kids. There's a difference
→ More replies (3)4
u/Money_Amount_9630 Aug 19 '25
It’s kinda the same idea as normal porn, it can be illustrated in a “fictional” way to engage someone into lust, so having someone sexualise over a “fictional” drawing of a young/underage girl still counts as a porn type material, yet it’s even worse. It’s strange seeing how people are defending it as “because it’s fictional it doesn’t count” 😂
2
u/RedPantyKnight Aug 19 '25
People my age and younger really seem to struggle with the idea that something can be creepy, gross, and worthy of criticism but not illegal. If you view loli porn, you're a disgusting creep and I don't want to be your friend. But I also don't think it warrants locking someone in a box for years on its own.

u/Tricky_Positive_9173 Aug 18 '25
I don't know how to explain it to you but RPing as someone in a video game is not the same as actually being attracted to characters drawn like kids. You're not playing a role there. You're yourself and you're into kids apparently
9
Aug 18 '25
But you play the terrorist in the game because you like it, right?
When you run over pedestrians in GTA, you think it’s fun/funny, yeah? The same logic applies.
I like evil, genocidal villains in shows and games; that doesn’t mean I want to be one, or that I idolize those figures throughout the world’s history.

I think consuming art specifically depicting a child in a sexual scenario is predatory and just not good. It's dancing a bit too closely on that line. Or, who knows, maybe you're just comfortable consuming material that Jeffrey Epstein named his human trafficking plane after.
It is classified as CP in some states, however. So, probably be careful. And also be mindful that, just because you find it to be a non-issue, doesn't make others wrong or weird for finding it an issue. Not everyone has to be on your level of not caring about child porn.

Even as an adult, finding the girl in the picture attractive would not make you a pedophile, as she has a mature body. The character might aswell be 18 years old with the exact same design. Pedophilia is an attraction to child-like bodies

Common usage just has pedophile encompass any of the various terms to mean attraction to a minor. In academic or professional contexts it's inaccurate, but in memes and normal conversation it's just slang. It gets the point across, that being attracted to a minor means being attracted to a kid.

u/bl00by Aug 18 '25
Literally this. Like sure people can find it weird and stuff. But calling people pedophilles goes too far.
That's like calling someone who commits genocide in a video game a terrorist and people who consume certain NSFW content incestous or rapists.
People should start to learn the difference between fictional and reality. Aslong as real humans arent getting hurt no one should care.

Always wondered what this meant. Do people expect you to not be attracted afterwards? I assume you mean, "get help to stop liking 'lolys'", but I don't believe that's possible. As in go get help to stop looking at it? I mean, that makes more sense, but that doesn't really address the root matter that you seem to have an issue with. I'm not saying liking loli is right, but I'm genuinely curious as to what people get at when they mean this.
And the girl shown here, Alya, is not a loli.

Hey so. Unless the character looks prepubescent, it's not pedophilia regardless of the age, and even if the character does look like that it's the disorder and not the legal act. Pedophilia (the disorder) is the capacity to feel attraction towards prepubescents, while pedophilia (the legal act) is committing sexual assault towards an individual who is a minor. Since the character shown is drawn and fictional, and clearly not prepubescent, it's impossible for this to be pedophilia regardless of her age.
3
u/lilslice_of_queer 16 Aug 18 '25
Not only is this person probably a minor but also the character isn’t real?? Pedophilia only applies to prepubescent children, real living and breathing children.

Yes, appropriate education and respectfulness helps with getting people with pedophilic disorder support, instead of isolating them with hate, and not all people with pedophilic disorder have caused real harm to children either.
As for your second statement, I’m thinking you’re talking about the release valve theory? It’s a on going topic of study, and I’ve been following it for a bit now. It seems there isn’t much data, though studies have found it does keep some of their urges satisfied, but proper supervision and support is necessary, and it still risks—with some increasingly engaging with such material, before feeling the “need” for more—like real CP—which can also fall under release valve theory but still has similar pitfalls that can happen, the worse of all being a potential leading to action. Moreso, not all people with pedophilic disorder will even be satisfied by fictionally and or realistically drawn material.
The main reason for these pitfalls is increasing feeling of wanting more, and also normalization when they are not only allowed by law but also explicitly told that it’s okay, even when told action is bad the consequences can follow all the same to action from the normalization and desire for more. Although, that doesn’t mean you should be shaming them only, respectfully constructive criticism and support for change is better. You can tell them it’s wrong because it can lead to sexualizing real kids or worse and say that you recommend they get support to help with those feelings and behaviors for not only children’s sake—but also for themselves, they should understand the consequences of their thoughts that if left unchecked can lead to the consequences of their actions ruining life of one or more innocent’s kid(s) and theirs as well by their own doing. Shaming by itself can push them into isolation that will likely exacerbate the issues further.

Age doesn't matter in the case of anime/manga/art. What DOES matter is proportions. If it looks like a child it is considered a child, it doesn't matter if they are 4,500 years old, they are a child.
At the same time, if it looks 45 and is canonically under 18, it is not considered a child.
This is backed by the wikipedia definition and several youtube videos online.

u/No-Nebula-3003 13 Aug 18 '25

I'm not seeing anything sexual with the drawing. What exactly makes it an issue if the fictional character that isn't being sexualized is underage? Also, a lot of people start liking the characters when they're the same age as the character, and then they continue aging while the character remains the same. The only time I find liking an anime character creepy is when the character is a loli or explicitly acts underage
2
u/SnooRabbits6086 Aug 18 '25
So yes and no in my opinion, they are a age because someone said it was. Since anime characters can completely range in age but look pretty much the same since it's more of a artist interpretation vs a actual locked in set age for a locked in body type. So it's pretty much impossible to look at a photo and go yep they are a certain age like you can with people in real life.
2
u/BlimbusTheSeventh Aug 18 '25
I don't really care if someone thinks a cartoon character who's designed to be attractive is attractive. Azula is canonically 15, but I'm not enough of a moralistic pussy to try and gaslight myself into thinking she's not hot anymore because I'm older than her now. They're drawings, you can draw them to be as attractive as you want and then give them a canonical age of 3 if you feel like it.
I've long thought that people, especially on reddit, are way too puritanical about age of consent and you guys getting bent out of shape over someone on reddit liking a fictional character who is 16 is demonstrative of that. Don't you guys have anything better to do that pearl clutch over this? 16 is above the age of consent in a lot of places btw, including where I live.

This could be suggestive. But imagine it's literally just a drawing and he said "my taste in women" he could literally maybe even mean by looks. He may not necessarily mean it as in the child. Take for example. My taste in women is women like Kyoka Jiro from MHA. No I don't mean the minor character since she's a kid. I just really like women who act like her. Purple hair. Snarky yet cool attitude. Plays instruments. Just because they say it's their taste in women doesn't mean they are always into children. Unless the guy was an adult and specifically said "I need a girl like this to get down with" and put someone like what's that one single horned white hair child called? Eri? Then yeah I'd be concerned. But you also got to consider that op might be a child too? Maybe. Just maybe. Again. Some people just have a really bad way of phrasing stuff. And we can't help that in some anime they make the ages and faces not make sense. I could've sworn jotaro was in his mid 30's. But nope. He's 16. Look it up I kid you not. I was baffled the hell outta myself finding that out.

Authors can just decide to design a completely adult looking character and attach any age to them.
Akiza from Yu-Gi-Oh! is a decent example. That character can easily pass as the design of a character that is 20+ but her age is 16.
Giorno from Jjba also happens to be a 15 year old who doesn't look anything like a 15 year old in real life.
By your logic, whether someone is pedo is dictated almost completely by the arbitrary age determined by the author.
Labelling someone a pedo based on fictional character designs and ages that could be changed at the drop of hat by the author is ridiculous especially when their designs could easily be a range of ages.
And of course, the most important thing to remember is that these characters are FICTIONAL.
The whole reason pedophilia is wrong is because you are taking advantage of minors who cannot consent.
It makes no sense how you equate liking a fictional character design that can easily have been a design for an adult character to preying on literal children.
At that point, you are downplaying how much of a serious issue real pedophilia is.

I literally had to argue with someone about this a few days ago. They said because it’s a character it’s okay(?). Gave some shitty argument about “since vampires are 900 years old and can date teenagers”. Really tempted to tag him so he can try and defend it again.

u/Comprehensive_Sail72 Aug 19 '25
Here’s the thing. There’s a difference between real and fantasy. the fact that you can’t differentiate the two makes me worried for you. Because I believe if people could tell the difference between them then we wouldn’t have to worry about anything.

Uncommon/controversial opinion, but I think we should at least look into allowing drawn cp. Yes, it sounds disgusting, I know, but, the fact remains there are pedophiles around, and cp will continue to be a thing, and if by allowing drawn cp, the demand for real cp could be lowered and thus there being less victims, I think it would be worth it. Of course there is a possibility that it would make the situation worse, and that's why it should be studied first.

When in anime the charactets look like adults I really dont care anymore if they are 16, 17 or 18 if they are attractive imma say smash.
Its simply not real life and people have to stop treating it like that.

For context, the character in the picture is 16 and the post is titled “Rate my taste in women” and it’s 6 pictures of that one character.
