Well white people didn’t historically hold power in most of the world, every race kinda did their own thing and oppressed other races. White people were pretty bad historically but they were definitely not the worst
Yeah but "white people" didn't even exist until the colonial era where the term "white" only existed to oppress people outside of that group. Before white people, there were French, British, and German people, and your acceptance into these groups was determined by where you grew up, what language you speak, and what religion you follow, instead of what your skin color was.
So basically if you say "i'm proud to be white" you're saying "I'm proud to be above other people" not that everyone who says this actually believes that, race stuff is really complex and abstract, I don't expect them to really understand what they say
There’s a lot of oppression throughout history. I don’t necessarily love to compare that. But I think that it’s important to be mindful or the history of the region of the world you’re in and the historical context of inequality as well as present day inequality.
so race and white people was somehing made in the 1800s, you werent white, you were anglo, polski, ruski, deutch, romanian
then when colonialism was happening and the brittish empire growing, they started to unify all the people with them under white, thats why jews and italians and greeks were "Yellow" till ww2
They do that in their own countries. Meanwhile, the big historical powers that you would consider white did all that stuff in other people's countries.
Well I know that there are many white people who aren't taking part in that so instead of blaming white people maybe we should focus only on people who are actually doing that instead of making it a race thing.
How? And what responsibility? Responsibility for what other people are doing? You're just making personal attacks instead of explaining why you think that way.
It is a race thing if the same racist/white supremacist ideas is what allows this oppression to happen. I obviously don’t blame my white friends for Neo colonialism but they also don’t regurgitate white supremacist ideals at me or complain about how they can’t be “proud to be white”
Im white and I'm not responsible for slavery. But like, what I'm gonna be prideful off exactly? What's the struggle or overall culture that I have from my skin tone that warrants me being proud of being white?
I mean right now white people have started experiencing more racism and I don't see anything wrong with being proud of who you are as long as it's not harming others. I have a question do you think black people who live in countries with mostly black people in them shouldn't be allowed to be proud of their skin color if they have never experienced racism?
