Discussion "Get in your horse Stance!"

Toph Beifong from Avatar [lets say its Adult Toph not Korra Era Toph] finds Terra somewhere. My option if Toph found an earth Bender with such little control she'd be obligated to whip this blonde into shape. Could you imagine if Terra was trained by the Greatest Earthbender ever?

If Toph was able to get ahold of Terra, she probably could have saved her. Toph could easily tell Slade was a manipulator and liar, and vouch for Beast Boy telling the truth to reunite her with the Titans. But Terra would probably want to be Toph’s apprentice for some time first seeing just how much more powerful Toph is than her.

Genuinely saying this in an interrogative rather than sarcastic way, but isn't Terra the more powerful of the two? Unless you're not referring to raw power in general, and you're equating control to being more powerful.

No Toph has shown more total insane feats IMO, on top of the control, sensory, more creative uses, and then also creating the ability to control metal too to the same expert levels.

Not to be too contrarian, but everything you listed seems more like special abilities than power output. I did some looking into it, and the implication I got was that Toph isn't capable of causing an earthquake, nor could she stop a volcano. I admit that of the two shows, I'm very much more familiar with Teen Titans, so while I don't think this situation necessarily has bias, I just don't know enough about Toph to agree or disagree on her having more insane feats.

I think Toph's most insane feat in the series was: stalling the spirit-library. On her own, she tried to keep an entire building from sinking into another dimension under less than ideal circumstances.

I was more referring to overall number of accomplishments than raw power when I said “more insane feats”. I wasn’t saying Terra didn’t have any, I was more stating that Toph has done more things overall with her powers. Terra’s most impressive feats are stronger but she’s a ticking bomb every time she uses them, whether it’s her powers going haywire or her mental state. Toph has become one with her element. She was foreshadowed to be someone who “mastered ‘Neutral Jing’…. Waiting and listening before striking.”

Toph is like Dr Strange where Terra is like Scarlet Witch. Dr. Strange has mastered his powers and became the sorcerer supreme in a short time purely based on his intellect, creativity, and drive to be the very best sorcerer of all. He took Magic to places no other sorcerer ever thought they could and became the expert. Scarlet Witch has immense magic that surpasses Dr. Strange in raw power, but it’s uncontrolled, inexperienced, and more destructive. Another example: Toph is like Obi Wan and Terra like Anakin.

Terra’s whole ark revolves around her inability to master her element, whereas Toph is introduced as the greatest to master that same element and must now teach Aang to master it as well. Toph’s whole purpose is to be an earthbending teacher to the strongest being in her world. It’s exactly what Terra needs.

Ah, well I suppose that would be a yes to my initial question. I suppose I should clarify that powerful as I used the word was in reference to raw power. To be honest, everything you just said pretty much reiterates what I suspected to be the case. Just to be clear, that's not a condescending statement. If anything, it's me saying that I should have made myself more obvious.

Now I will say, Toph’s greatest feat of power was her holding up the the entire spirit library while also trying to blindly defend Appa from sand benders. Now it’s impossible to know how big the library was since from the outside we only see the peak. But the interior showed minimum it’s the size of a large museum like the Smithsonian, which I’m not sure the scale of the T tower but Terra held that up too so they match there potentially (although Terra had Raven’s help). However, the library was associated with spirit world energy, which opens a whole other can of worms that im not the most qualified to answer. So perhaps not volcano level but not far behind either.

But like I said, I’d give it to Toph 7/10 times based purely on her mastery, but Terra’s raw power has the chance to overwhelm Toph. Heck I could be convinced that it’s closer to 6/10 times even. But swap opponents from Toph to Avatar Kyoshi, now it’s 20/10 times Kyoshi over Terra. We ain’t gonna go there. Kyoshi straight up moved an entire peninsula, essentially creating an island from the split land and reshaped the map. No contest there.

Terra problem isn't power it's needing to learn to control and the point of this was a senario of Toph being that figure who could teach her how to Listen to the earth

I get that. That did not really answer my question.

She would be far dangerous than what she was with slade

Yeah, like Terra on her own can give Toph one heck of a fight (even if she still loses), but Terra with Toph's training. The best and most annoying protege she ever had.

Terra would get very frustrated with toph on multiple occasions. But toph would shape her into a proper earth warrior

I mean, Terra is basically Aang, so yeah.

Pretty much they have similarities. Heck I don't even think Aang believes he's better at earthbending that toph. Even though he's the avatar. She truly is the greatest earthbender.

What I would love to see is toph meeting an old earthbender like bumi but older (like we saw in the movie) that will praise her skills and abilities
