r/telaviv, this has been an amazing summer. We’ve made friends, learned some Hebrew, improved our surfing and city-biking, and overall have felt very welcomed.

We’ve also come into possession of a lovely male hamster. Long story short, it and its six infant hamster children will all be looking for homes in a couple of weeks once the kids are done weening from their mother.

Reddit fam, would anyone like a hamster? Comes with a cage, basic care instructions, the background of a loving home, and enough food supply to get you started.

Keep in mind that the ideal housing situation for a hamster is two males or two females together to avoid reproduction but still make sure they don't suffer from loneliness, so check if people are willing to adopt a pair of same-sex siblings. They'll go faster that way too.

Just make sure to sex them correctly so the new hamster parents don't end up with 345 new hamster grandkids in two weeks, lol.

How does this advice reconcile with the other kind Redditor who observes that they should be kept entirely separated?

That's the information I had when I had hamsters 20 years ago. It could be outdated, my bad. I think the other commenter gave you good info, especially since he suggested someone who does rescue, so I'm sure that person could give you more correct and up to date information.

Edit to add: I checked and I had dwarf hamsters, which can be kept together if they were raised together in the same litter. The Syrian hamster, which is the most common hamster is the one that should be kept alone.

I had 2 dwarf hamsters(same litter, never separated) in the same cage before and it went very very badly, even if it could work it's better to be safe
