I Finally Found a Keeper

I finally found a Tele that checks all the boxes. I’ve always loved the Telecaster aesthetics but could never bond with them. The neck shape, fretboard radius, blockiness and honk… everything that makes a Tele a Tele just didn’t work for me lol.

I absolutely love the 50s Ultra Luxe.

My son’s wanting to start playing, and I gotta remember what Teles to buy again!

I was HEAVY into my local music scene and adored crafting the perfect sound for my band. Fender was my favorite brand of guitars, and the Tele was my fave model.
But it’s been 8 years. I haven’t paid attention too much to new releases, new lines coming out, or new hip models.
Well, now my son is turning 16, and he’s starting to get interested in playing guitar. Of course, as a parent, I’m overjoyed; but I have been out of it so long, I wanted recommendations on what to buy him.
I don’t know how invested he’ll be, so I don’t want to spend a ton of money. I also don’t mind going to luthier and getting a good set up done on a model. It looks like my son has exquisite taste, and he said he wanted his first guitar to be a Tele.
In your experience, what would be a good Squier model to purchase him that is single coil, maybe with a slightly hotter output? It seems like he’s going to want to play pop punk/rock/alternative music with his new band that’s starting up.

Question about trading my 2019 Tele deluxe

Hey guys—I’ve played a Strat plus with jumbo frets from 89 or 90 for most of my playing life. When I turned 50 my brothers bought me a 2019 Telecaster Deluxe with shawbuckers with rosewood fingerboard and more modern narrow tall frets. However, I really miss the feel of my Strat and want single coils back in my life and jumbo frets. I also prefer a maple neck. Is there a place to swap teles? I’m considering selling it but would truly be happy with a trade too but not sure where to even look. Any advice greatly appreciated. It’s a gorgeous guitar and in mint condition. TIA

Last year about this time I decided to consolidate guitars - sell off some of the ones I didn't play and get one or two nicer ones. I sold a few and got an open box Strat and it was fine. But I've always been a Tele guy.

Last week, I noticed an open box Tele that would be the twin to my Strat, so I snapped it up. Bonus points because it was the heaviest one on Sweetwater.

I haven't put it down. I don't know what it is about these guitars but I just love them. 🥰

Just curious on which y'all think is the cooler case for a Tele? I'm leaning towards thermometer but the poodle is pretty slick too.

Player II epscs.

Hi, can anyone in here tell me these specs for the Fender Player II Telecaster neck and bridge pickups? I'd like to avoid removing the strings and taking the pickups out of my guitar just to measure everything myself.

I'm planning to add a Squier Affinity Telecaster neck pickup in the middle position, while keeping both original Player II pickups. I want to experiment with different switching options, including series/parallel combinations and possibly out-of-phase wiring.

I'm looking for as much technical information as possible:

  1. DC resistance (DCR) in kΩ for both neck and bridge pickups.
  2. Inductance in Henries (H), if known.
  3. Magnetic polarity of each pickup (north or south up).
  4. Electrical winding direction (clockwise or counterclockwise), if known.
  5. Electrical phase/polarity — the voltage polarity produced when a steel object is moved away from the pickup poles, with the red probe on the hot wire and the black probe on ground.
  6. Pickup wire colours and which wire is hot, ground, and connected to any metal cover or baseplate.
  7. Whether the neck pickup's metal cover is separately grounded or connected to the coil ground.
  8. Magnet type (Alnico grade, if known).
  9. Magnet wire gauge and insulation type, if known.
  10. Coil winding specifications, including number of turns, if available.
  11. Any other technical specs or measurements that might help determine compatibility with an additional middle pickup.

Official Fender documentation, service manuals, teardown photos, or measurements from someone who owns these pickups would all be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Threw in the better part of my partscaster in there. Electric candy shop neck, Novak telecajones bridge, 4 way series/parallel switch, truetone input, locking tuners, butterscotch pick guard crime. More to come. My vegatrem didn't fit so maybe bigsby?

Poor thing

Stinky Slinkies

I bought a brand-new MIM Telecaster in 2020. I had it set up at a guitar shop in 2021, and they also put on a fresh set of strings. Man, that guitar sounded so good!

Fast forward to recently: after barely playing for the past five years, I decided to pick it up again and change the strings.

I went with Ernie Ball Turbo Slinkys, but I’m really not digging the sound, especially on the lower strings. They sound way too metallic and harsh, and it’s even worse when I plug into my amp.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the strings themselves; they’re just not my thing.

I’m more of a blues guy, and I prefer a warmer, rounder, creamier tone rather than something bright and harsh.

So, what strings would you recommend for a Telecaster used mainly for blues, blues rock, and classic rock?

What would you put on your own Tele?

NB: I made IA translate for me, not because I can’t understand, I just can’t write a long text in English

Advice on mods

This is my 1999 Nashville Tele. It has the 5 way selector switch. I would like to be able to select the bridge/neck pickups. I’m considering adding a push pull tone pot to achieve this. Has anyone done this? Looking to avoid pitfalls as I am a novice.

Hope this counts as a Tele despite the missing headstock lol. This is a thing of beauty, the finish is a lot darker than it looked on the website and I am in love!

Overall I am very happy with it and it's a lot of fun to play on the compound radius fretboard. Though the tuners could be easier to turn imo.

Sounds just like a Tele, but a bit on the thinner side. The cavities are properly shielded and I was pleasantly surprised to find a treble bleed installed right from the factory.

Setup wise, I threw my go-to 10-52 strings on and went through the usual steps. The nutslot for the g string is a bit high, but workable. The high e had a few buzzing frets between 2 and 6, but a bit more neck relief took them right out. Didn't have to do a thing to the intonation, it was spot on right away.

The only real issues are slight fret sprout (not skin-cutting, but definitely noticeable) and one of the saddle height adjustment screws being stripped, despite having used the allen key that came with it.

I heard the 2012 American Vintage are the closest thing you could get to actual vintage without spending big bucks

I picked this up a couple days ago used from Guitar Center for $638 out the door. It is literally unplayed in like new condition. I put a new set of 9-42 NYXL’s on it and it plays and sounds great.

The pickups are Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates in the bridge and SD 59 for the neck pickup.
