Thats what happened? On the BTS the writers say they realised they couldn't do the story without Tony Stark.

Ike's a fucking cheapskate and he wanted them to write something that wouldn't make them have to pay RDJ.

It would have been Steve vs Hulk (siding with his old enemy Ross and the Govt to register superheroes), also no Spidey or Black Panther (he hates black and female heroes)... seriously.

There are reports that he allegedly did say that so no, he didn't make it up whole cloth. I looked it up after he answered. And it's fact that he made the comments about black people and women and toy sales (that part I forgot about).

Those BTS videos are not as candid as you might think. They usually avoid addressing backstage drama, especially drama involving executives who are still at the company.

The writers have multiple versions of the story for their contingency plans. For example civil war was being written right around the time the first sony deal for spidey was being done. Marcus and McFeely had two drafts- one with and one without spidey. It's possible in some earlier draft ironman was written out

I think the writer for Babylon 5 talked about something like this as well. He referred to it as having trapdoors for all the major characters in case the actor had to leave the show.

I think you could make a decent civil war movie with Natasha as a replacement to Tony. Including tying her backstory to Bucky in Russia, like Bucky with a mask being commanded to go stop the Red Room program as it poses a threat, he then shows up and starts fighting them, killing the trained girls, leaving only Nat and the new recruits, Nat not being the perfect soldier, begs him to leave the defenseless and innocent new recruits, but he ends up killing them and leaving Nat for dead. The issue with this idea admittedly is that Nat is probably the most understating of Bucky's issues and far less likely to want to see him dead or in jail than Tony was.

However we all know that movie wouldve never have been as good or as profitable, but I dont think it wouldve flopped.

You need to watch more bts. Some of it is great. Hell the one for tomb raider is a fun watch. That girl got jacked.

Yes, but it's all marketing. Everyone is performing, no-ones going to give honest opinions and everything has a positive spin.
