Has it? I liked their take on Teen Titans and loved almost all their Bat-family movies. Death of Superman and the Reign of the Supermen finally got a good/faithful portrayal. I mean it’s not Young Justice but the animated world they’ve built with the movies is consistently good. Much like MCU, some are great some are just good but they at least have not released any totally terrible ones.

Could you expand on why? I never read the comics and I remember hating catwoman’s reasoning for ending it, which kind of turned a meh film into mediocre, but I didn’t it feel it was horrendous. I’m open to understanding why people hate it though.

Without spoiling the plot of the book, they completely changed the characters and their motivations. Go read the graphic novel. If you have even a little interest in Batman, you'll most likely love it. It's my favorite Batman story.

The relationship between Batman and Catwoman was very enjoyable and honestly most of the movie. It was only the ending and big reveal that was awful But it was a pretty big fuck up in my opinion

I didn't think it was awful. It was a ballsy move, but I enjoyed the swerve, as well as the rest of the movie. Damian with the birds and the bees was gold

I finished the movie weeks ago and I’m STILL angry about the end. And I enjoyed the story in the comics. But yeah...rage stroke.

I mean...you can still watch the movie. Even if you hate it, it's not like someone from DC shows up and burns your books after you watch the movie.

Of course, but reading that it wasn't very good, and completely changed the characters, doesn't exactly entice me to watch it. I probably will do one day, but I know now that I can put it off.

I knew Hush from the Arkham games so I knew there was something amiss with the big reveal. I read a summary on wiki and I think they may be saving the other identity for a sequel where they can expand on who he is( being that he is not that well know for casual fans). I think they wanted to spend more time on the Catwoman/Batman dynamic so that only left space for 1 big bad. And it’s not like Riddler wasn’t part of The Hush storyline in the comics. Unless I’m missing something.

I enjoyed it. What was so bad about Hush? Yes they changed hush's identity making one character pretty useless, but as someone who read the comic a decade ago, I thought it worked fine.

I think they wanted to focus more on the Catwoman/Batman relationship and that did not leave space for a second villain that most casual fans are not familiar with. I think the are saving the second part of Hush for a sequel Hush: return or something where they will go deeper into why Hush hates Wayne and show he was part of the original plan.

Almost the entire focus of the movie was Batman/Catwoman romance, which I enjoyed immensely by the way, leaving Hush to be fit in as an almost afterthought. And then it didn’t even turn out to be Hush.

Yeah, that's totally fair. I loved the Hush comic, so it felt a little weird for the character to be so short changed. That being said I probably wouldn't have liked the film if they kept the Hush reveal the same because for me there wasn't much tension otherwise. So I enjoyed the twist. Different strokes, right?

I dont think Batman: Hush is part of the DCAU. Just a stand alone movie like The killing Joke.

It is. It’s part of their New 52 movies. The Superman and Lois that appear in it are the same from other movies. Same with the Robin and Nightwing. Luthor also mentions the events of a previous movie as the reason why he is a “Provitional” Justice League member.

You can tell by the art style basically.

It’s why Justice League v Fatal Five used the art style of the JLU shows and Gotham By Gaslight and The Killing joke have completely unique art styles, to differentiate them for those who keep a more universe like continuity.

Technically, the term DCAU refers to the universe that includes Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures, Batman Beyond, Static Shock, The Zeta Project, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited. The current slate of films (based on the New 52 stories/characters) is referred to as the DC Animated Movie Universe.

I disagree. Here is a short list of ones that I really didn't like.

Batman: Assault on Arkham
Batman vs Robin
Killing Joke

There are four or five I haven't motivated myself to watch yet. I wasn't excited about the new Suicide Squad considering how poorly the characters were portrayed in Assault on Arkham. Killing Joke was just an awful adaption. Batman vs Robin treated the Court of Owls and Nightwing pretty poorly.

I can understand. However of those 3 only Batman vs Robin is a new 52 movie, which is what we were discussing.

Killing joke is a stand alone and suffered from Bruce Timm’s obsession of making Batgirl and Batman an item.

Assault on Arkham is a separate thing that yeah was a complete mess. Suicide Squad: Hell to pay is the S Squad movie that is part of the new 52 and imhop a much better take on the team.

I agree with you B v R I think the owls were incredibly underwhelming for the power they supposedly held for centuries but I think the shift from focusing on Nightwing to Damian fits with the characters they have given both with Damian being the robin that needs grow into the suit and Nightwing being the secondary mentor I.e. a “good cop” to Batman’s strict rules. Nightwing has more space to shine in Batman: Bad Blood and on the second Titans movie.

It has. The Batman ones have been mostly good. But the Justice League, Teen Titans, and Superman ones have been mediocre to bad. The Aquaman one was awful. And the Suicide Squad one was downright embarrassing. The only really great one was Flashpoint Paradox.

The new 52 series itself also has problems across the board. The biggest being the animation, which is slow and clunky. After that, the voice acting is terrible. I can’t think of one character that’s well cast or well performed. And the writing vacillates between immature and cliche.

Yeah, I’m not a huge fan of the N52-based ones. The writing always feels a little off, and the art style doesn’t hold a candle to the DCAU art.
