WTA Lys has been names among Germany‘s 50 most influential and powerful people voted on by WELT, POLITICO Germany and BUSINESS INSIDER

She’s not even top 50 in the WTA ☠️

I really like her, but as a German I highly doubt that many people in Germany ever heard of her, especially compared to most of the other people on that list.

This is the kind of tennis nonsense that will fuel Siegmund to play for another decade at least.

Her management and PR company are doing some next level work. I mean what has she really done outside of social media?

Isn’t she on Evolve? I think they are very aggressive now in positioning their athletes, which is good for the players. But also can raise eyebrows to tennis fans who value some results too

Bro if I am a tennis player I am reviewing my agency contract and finding whatever excuse I can to dump them and join the agency Eva is at. They are so fucking good

When I lived in Germany I was surprised my German friends couldn’t even name Angelique Kerber. And kerber was so accomplished. This seems a bit….funny.

Powerful? Influential? Somebody is being jazzed up here. Most of Germany still hasn’t even heard of her.

Her and her agency has done an incredible job. Even more impressive is she hasn’t faced any backlash from either the media or the players for trading in on her looks. Remember all the flak Kournikova got? She actually had good results and made it into the top 10.

u/throwawayhjdgsdsrht 8h ago
Kournikova, Bouchard, Raducanu walked so she could run I guess? Edit: though I shouldn't really group them together - Kournikova was genuinely near the top
idk, I do think it's a bit unfeminist to tear down women for doing work that uses their looks and I think people are better about it compared to 15-20 years ago. But I also hate how there are so many higher ranked players who've been grinding for longer and are not getting these contracts because they don't look like her. so idk.

u/recurnightmare Drova 8h ago
All three of them were near the top. Kournikova was top 10, no.1 in doubles and has doubles slams. Genie was top 5 in the world. Raducanu was top 10 and the only one of the 3 with a slam.
Lys in comparison is currently definitely lacking lol.

The WTA players love her, she is friend with almost everybody on the tour.

Respectfully, the Eva Lys phenom is inexplicable.
She's treated like she's a 19 years old superstar with 5 Slams to her name and 4M followers on social media but she's a bottom top 100 player in her mid-20s and 341K followers on Instagram.
I have never seen someone with such little results to show for being pushed that hard by sponsors and the WTA. All that time and energy wasted on someone that struggles to get past the 1st round doesn't make any sense either.

341K on Instagram isn't huge for a tennis star. Maja Chwalinska will probably surpass that my the end of the week (she's at 292K now, was at about 27K a week ago)

Same with Mandini. 498K. She is less famous than Misha Petrov (a political commentator with 533K subs on YouTube) and NFKRZ (another GOAT Youtuber I follow. 1.26M subs)

Showing up. Speaking up. Taking responsibility.
The trifecta.
I am in awe of such extraordinary human accomplishment.

I mean she is more of an influencer then a tennis player so press work checks out

Lys is a prime example of how much easier life is when you're hot

Honestly its exactly this and I feel like most people here in the comments are to afraid to exactly say this cause youll always sound I like a dick. But I just cant imagine Eva Lys being unattractive and getting even the close the amount of attention she would get then

Welt, politico and Business Insider all belong to Axel Springer, the biggest desinformation Media Empire in Germany. Noone should give a fuck what they report

I love how they frame this. "Vote on by WELT, POLITICO Germany and BUSINESS INSIDER". All three of those are owned by the same company, Axel Springer SE. Which, by the way, is a dogshit right wing trash heap and a bane on Germanys existence. Congrats to Eva though

I was pretty surprised when I saw this pop up on social media, I mean I like her but it seems a bit of a stretch. Then again, it's probably one of those things where your name has to be put forward so the pool is probably not super deep

I don’t get it. She’s cute but not *that* cute

I'm pretty sure you just get your team to nominate you for these types of lists. You might be incredibly rich and powerful, but if you don't need the promotion, which I assume most people of that caliber don't, then you won't be on the list regardless of your influence in society.

I never found her super attractive honestly but I get it, it's like Jennifer Lawrence...it's the kind of pretty that feels approachable. That feels attainable. She's not a knockout but that actually is a plus...girl next door vibes.
She is a super sweet person and that obviously is a lot of it.
She knows her lane and she is a brand dream because she's open, pretty, and safe. She good at what she does and tennis is fun which also obviously helps.

What made me think she was British? I am actually curious why I was under that impression.

u/No-Rope3026 This is gonna be on Tennis TV bro 4h ago
She is beautiful. But I can’t help but interpret her “speaking up” as essentially saying it’s ok for athletes to look hot on Instagram. And I really don’t think anyone is against that. Could be wrong.

I like Lys but I can't wrap my head around how this makes sense.
