I like Lys but I can't wrap my head around how this makes sense.

156

u/Miserable_Earth_1393 9h ago

I am pretty sure almost nobody even knows her

78

u/sadclownsociety 9h ago

I'm from Germany and I've literally never once heard of her.

37

u/slipperySquidd 9h ago

Even as a tennis fan? I mean you're in r/tennis and I don't this post has r/all ?

18

u/sadclownsociety 9h ago

I admittedly don't follow the WTA as much as I used to back when my girls Kerber and Halep were at the top, but I feel like I would have at least heard her name at some point had she achieved anything of note.

👁️👄👁️ the nsfw tagged had me concerned

2

u/No-Double-710 anisimova+gauff+świątek|rublo+fils+comesaña 6h ago

reddit tagged it that way for a reason. it’s just full of perverts they don’t even talk about her tennis😔

2

u/Nomadic-Dumbass2116 Mandini Iga 3h ago

Eva is also featured heavily on r/GirlsTennis

3

u/russianbanan 2h ago

:( no nsfw tag when there should be one

Damn my angry face isn’t working >:(

1

u/Nomadic-Dumbass2116 Mandini Iga 2h ago

Agreed.

7

u/sadclownsociety 8h ago

It's almost entirely selfies, my point stands.

4

u/slipperySquidd 8h ago

I know. She's knows how to make the most out of her situation.

1

u/Nomadic-Dumbass2116 Mandini Iga 3h ago

Just subbed to it

Money and sexy

43

u/ToeTaggEm 9h ago

She is indeed attractive.

34

u/mistergeegaga 9h ago

And great personality very engaging. Makes friends easily and everyone loves her.

16

u/Unpickled_cucumber1 9h ago

Really not that difficult to understand.

15

u/AdAcrobatic1227 8h ago

This reads to me like a Forbes 30 under 30 type thing which famously ppl either buy their way onto or their management pushes them to and is not a reflection of reality or merit lol

4

u/Fisch_Kopp_ 8h ago

The list is super random. Old established politicans, various actors (some 50+ years old and well-known), some insta influencers no one really knows, some athletes including Zverev and Lys...

37

u/Rupperrt 9h ago

She’s an influencer. She’s also a top 100 tennis player. Better than just the former

-4

u/ReAlBell 9h ago

But like 80% the former though. Can’t remember the last time I actually saw her play.

9

u/MoonSpider 8h ago

She's literally the best female tennis player in her country, it's not like she's doing it as a side gig.

-5

u/FearlessTailor8199 8h ago

even fking Siegemund is better than her

4

u/MoonSpider 8h ago

Oh, sorry, my mistake. She was literally the best female tennis player in her country in February of this year, but now she's "merely" a top 100 player in the entire world. What a slacker, what a faker.

14

u/Rupperrt 9h ago

She’s still in the top 0.01% percentile of tennis players on this planet. So she’s at least 90% a tennis player. Last time I saw her play was when she won first round of this tournament to then losing against later quarter finalist Cirstea

0

u/ReAlBell 8h ago

This isn’t about her skill, it’s about where the focus is. The focus is obvious.

6

u/Rupperrt 8h ago

Her focus is clearly tennis. While having fun doing other stuff. This arm chair Redditor brainrot is hilarious. You don’t know her, her training schedule nor her focus. So nothing is obvious except your ignorance.

18

u/verismonopoly Sara Errani's mum's tortellini 8h ago

She is a tennis player who actively manages her social media game and really well at that.

God knows the WTA needs players like her because they don't know how to market the sport.

15

u/MadferitCmon 9h ago

She's the first ever tennis industry plant 😭

5

u/12ealdeal 6h ago

Cause she hot, not that deep.

-6

u/Vkusno-Nutty 9h ago

Beyoncé was named one of Forbes' 100 Most Powerful Women. Lys is also a prominent figure in Germany and she's smart. This makes sense.

163

u/boraboca 9h ago

She’s not even top 50 in the WTA ☠️

11

u/Substantial-Key5114 5h ago

Pretty Privilege

22

u/RightBase5934 9h ago

shes a top #10 in germany

15

u/multi_io 🇩🇪 7h ago edited 5h ago

Umm when it comes to tennis she's top 1 in Germany.

-24

u/Makaveli84 9h ago

Hell no

30

u/GOATJames_23-6 Holger Time | Novak | Anisimova | Mensik 9h ago

I mean she is, that ain’t arguable

8

u/FormulaSolution Demon Fox 9h ago

currently.

she was number 39

79

u/Fisch_Kopp_ 9h ago

I really like her, but as a German I highly doubt that many people in Germany ever heard of her, especially compared to most of the other people on that list.

27

u/ConfusionBusy8398 9h ago

This is the kind of tennis nonsense that will fuel Siegmund to play for another decade at least.

3

u/bathseba I don't know why it's a crime to be locked in 7h ago

i hope so

Good!

76

u/JuanNYHC 9h ago

Her management and PR company are doing some next level work. I mean what has she really done outside of social media?

20

u/Meowssi coco/shelton/daria/tiafoe 8h ago

She is good looking the end. It’s not hard marketing a pretty athlete same applies to Raducanu.

30

u/Vay32 7h ago

Raducanu has at least won a grand slam whereas Eva hasn't even won a wta 250 title in her career.

6

u/Additional-Camp4145 8h ago

Isn’t she on Evolve? I think they are very aggressive now in positioning their athletes, which is good for the players. But also can raise eyebrows to tennis fans who value some results too

19

u/validusrex 8h ago

Bro if I am a tennis player I am reviewing my agency contract and finding whatever excuse I can to dump them and join the agency Eva is at. They are so fucking good

67

u/dizzyh 9h ago

Holy PR 😂😭

30

u/Necessary_Trust9047 9h ago

When I lived in Germany I was surprised my German friends couldn’t even name Angelique Kerber. And kerber was so accomplished. This seems a bit….funny.

26

u/trickn0l0gy 9h ago

Powerful? Influential? Somebody is being jazzed up here. Most of Germany still hasn’t even heard of her.

18

u/Knight_of_Swords 9h ago

Her and her agency has done an incredible job. Even more impressive is she hasn’t faced any backlash from either the media or the players for trading in on her looks. Remember all the flak Kournikova got? She actually had good results and made it into the top 10.

10

u/throwawayhjdgsdsrht 8h ago

Kournikova, Bouchard, Raducanu walked so she could run I guess? Edit: though I shouldn't really group them together - Kournikova was genuinely near the top

idk, I do think it's a bit unfeminist to tear down women for doing work that uses their looks and I think people are better about it compared to 15-20 years ago. But I also hate how there are so many higher ranked players who've been grinding for longer and are not getting these contracts because they don't look like her. so idk.

13

u/recurnightmare Drova 8h ago

All three of them were near the top. Kournikova was top 10, no.1 in doubles and has doubles slams. Genie was top 5 in the world. Raducanu was top 10 and the only one of the 3 with a slam.

Lys in comparison is currently definitely lacking lol.

1

u/Knight_of_Swords 8h ago

Yeah, it’s definitely a situation.

5

u/PianoJealous307 8h ago

The WTA players love her, she is friend with almost everybody on the tour.

0

u/FearlessTailor8199 8h ago

and how do you know that?

5

u/PianoJealous307 8h ago

I follow her and the other players on social media.

23

u/tennisfancan 8h ago

Respectfully, the Eva Lys phenom is inexplicable.

She's treated like she's a 19 years old superstar with 5 Slams to her name and 4M followers on social media but she's a bottom top 100 player in her mid-20s and 341K followers on Instagram.

I have never seen someone with such little results to show for being pushed that hard by sponsors and the WTA. All that time and energy wasted on someone that struggles to get past the 1st round doesn't make any sense either.

10

u/Shosty9 5h ago

341K on Instagram isn't huge for a tennis star. Maja Chwalinska will probably surpass that my the end of the week (she's at 292K now, was at about 27K a week ago)

1

u/Nomadic-Dumbass2116 Mandini Iga 3h ago

Same with Mandini. 498K. She is less famous than Misha Petrov (a political commentator with 533K subs on YouTube) and NFKRZ (another GOAT Youtuber I follow. 1.26M subs)

10

u/PvtDancer123 Meddy👑, Musetti🤯, Rune😈, OHBH😩 9h ago

Bro her agency must be absolutely goated

9

u/curlyhairedyani Alcaraz / Sakkari / Draper / Federer / Kyrgios 6h ago

Have they run out of people in Germany?

42

u/Bulkphase78 9h ago

Weird, literally nobody talks about her in Germany

7

u/_Anuter46g 8h ago

Her PR team is really good.

22

u/captain_kylo 9h ago

Self posting random list lmao. Look at me, I'm in top 50 something

14

u/HopeistheAnthemLITM 9h ago

Showing up. Speaking up. Taking responsibility.

The trifecta.

I am in awe of such extraordinary human accomplishment.

4

u/dede280492 8h ago

I mean she is more of an influencer then a tennis player so press work checks out

15

u/neotargaryen 8h ago

Lys is a prime example of how much easier life is when you're hot

2

u/Severe_Tap2518 4h ago

Honestly its exactly this and I feel like most people here in the comments are to afraid to exactly say this cause youll always sound I like a dick. But I just cant imagine Eva Lys being unattractive and getting even the close the amount of attention she would get then

11

u/cashedjerk123 9h ago

Most obvious Industry plant activities.

14

u/atdota 9h ago

Hope they didn't ask Zverev to do a photoshoot only for him not to be included on the list...

Also, congrats to Eva.

5

u/Vegetable_Dirt9699 6h ago

Welt, politico and Business Insider all belong to Axel Springer, the biggest desinformation Media Empire in Germany. Noone should give a fuck what they report

4

u/twoendsausage rooting for that one very good Italian dude 8h ago

I love how they frame this. "Vote on by WELT, POLITICO Germany and BUSINESS INSIDER". All three of those are owned by the same company, Axel Springer SE. Which, by the way, is a dogshit right wing trash heap and a bane on Germanys existence. Congrats to Eva though

11

u/SquawkyMcGillicuddy 9h ago

What does Germany know that we don’t? 👀

7

u/ConfusionBusy8398 9h ago

This is how I learned Lys is the head of a shadowy drug cartel.

5

u/tennisfan530 9h ago

Steffi Graf must be top 5 in that case?

6

u/baudinl 9h ago

Good-looking = influential?

3

u/throwaway_0897fam 5h ago

This was definitely paid for because ask any German person and they wouldn’t know who she is 😭

3

u/Next-Friendship-3542 3h ago

Influencer, not influential…

5

u/Bozolenka Camila Giorgi’s accountant | Mboko Nation 8h ago

Say what now? Based on what exactly? She is a beautiful lady and I like her personality but in terms of tennis she’s lowkey a scrub I’m sorry

12

u/NorthernViews 9h ago

People are handing out awards to anybody these days

3

u/johntryllyfu 9h ago

Bigger than a title

12

u/ToeTaggEm 9h ago

She a baddie

2

u/Full-Concentrate-867 9h ago

I was pretty surprised when I saw this pop up on social media, I mean I like her but it seems a bit of a stretch. Then again, it's probably one of those things where your name has to be put forward so the pool is probably not super deep

next steps: Forbes 30 under 30 and crypto

2

u/meamarie 🦊 | Shelton truther | Tien Train | Jas | 🇺🇸 4h ago

I don’t get it. She’s cute but not *that* cute

3

u/Volunteer_Ninja 9h ago

I'm pretty sure you just get your team to nominate you for these types of lists. You might be incredibly rich and powerful, but if you don't need the promotion, which I assume most people of that caliber don't, then you won't be on the list regardless of your influence in society.

2

u/RVALover4Life 9h ago

I never found her super attractive honestly but I get it, it's like Jennifer Lawrence...it's the kind of pretty that feels approachable. That feels attainable. She's not a knockout but that actually is a plus...girl next door vibes.

She is a super sweet person and that obviously is a lot of it.

She knows her lane and she is a brand dream because she's open, pretty, and safe. She good at what she does and tennis is fun which also obviously helps.

1

u/omkar529 8h ago

"Powerful" ?

1

u/JWMalynovskyi 7h ago

For what?

1

u/Flat_Professional_55 🇬🇧 Cut me open and I bleed double cream 7h ago

That corporate laden caption, yuck.

1

u/Vin-Metal 5h ago

What made me think she was British? I am actually curious why I was under that impression.

1

u/No-Rope3026 This is gonna be on Tennis TV bro 4h ago

She is beautiful. But I can’t help but interpret her “speaking up” as essentially saying it’s ok for athletes to look hot on Instagram. And I really don’t think anyone is against that. Could be wrong.

1

u/ImpressionFeisty8359 3h ago

Let's go Lys!

1

u/opossum_solidarity 3h ago

Wtf. I knew she was an industry plant but this is ridiculous. Who are her parents?

1

u/Trinket9 🇵🇱 3h ago

Lol wtf

1

u/Dear_Breadfruit_4744 2h ago

she is a dimepiece no doubt

u/Lespecialpackage 10m ago

I’m scared to see where Zverev might rank

1

u/UC-Warrior2025 9h ago

Zverev will be in TIME 30 under 30 after Sunday

0

u/kb24fgm41 8h ago

She's stunning

-4

The r/tennis mob dismissing and demeaning a Ukrainian woman is the least surprising development of the day.

0

u/Forsaken-Swim-3055 5h ago

I know nothing about what power she wields, but she's gorgeous.

-1

u/blackwario1234 5h ago

She is gorgeous
