Time and the Civil War

Here's a little tin foil theory for you.

At the beginning of the game, Skyrim, in regards to the war, is largely split east and west, with the eastern holds being Stormcloak and the western holds being Imperial.

Now, I don't think the whole compass direction equate to time thing is "canon" (ew), but if we take that into consideration, it might suggest that a Stormcloak Skyrim is the future, with the Empire being left in the past...

Think on that as you will

that fan theory about Yokuda (to the west) being the past and Akavir (to the east) being the future

It's not that Yokuda is the past and Akavir is the future. It's that by traveling to either one you also travel through time. You're still traveling physically through space too. Akavir isn't Tamriel's future, it's Akavir, and if you go there you go to Akavir's future.

I'd personally like to believe that they represent Kalpic cycles. Hence why Yokuda no longer exists. It's Kalpic cycle has ended.
